Alone, I am completely capable of independent thought and action. No man needed. Sounds like a very traditional mindset that person has. That said, my husband is a joy and a pleasure. I wouldn't trivialize him into some obligation or equate him to a crutch.

@dc65 that's the thing. I'm not and never have been looking for much beyond compatibility and companionship. Never works for very long, not happily anyway. I think I'm just not a relationship person. Having friends makes me happy but romantic entanglements are nothing but an unneeded problem. Been right there the whole time and I just caught on.

Speaking as a partner in a failed relationship, not a man - I think it is very dependent on both and how well they are able to work together. It isn't really a male/female thing although it might appear as that when seen from the perspective of one sex.

Do you think that men have become more feminine recently?
MikeInBatonRouge comments on Jan 31, 2018:
There is so much wrong on so many levels with this entire description that it is impossible to address it all. But just for starters, ...strong only equals masculine subjectively. You said your mentor was a strong, god-fearing, great man. Those terms have nothing to do with one another. All ...

Do you think that men have become more feminine recently?
JosephHarrison comments on Jan 31, 2018:
Technically, you're right. Many men do take time to make sure they look their best. I mean, I'm hardly what an old-fashioned person would call effeminate, but I comb my hair to make it behave, and I know what colours look good on me, and I dress accordingly. Is there a problem with that? I don't ...
OpposingOpposum replies on Feb 8, 2018:
@Lancer I think the point that you're missing is that your "masculine" and "feminine" categories are arbitrary. They have no basis in fact. Being aggressive,or sensitive or vain or smart aren't feminine or masculine, they're traits that exist in all humans to varying degrees and there is a lot more variability between individuals than between sexes. Your basic premise is faulty.
Do you think that men have become more feminine recently?
ErichZannIII comments on Jan 31, 2018:
The dynamic of so called masculinity has changed and so to some people it may seem as though men have become more feminine. I'm going to disagree with you on that. The money and social prestige are too much to expect a kid to pass up. It's also not explicitly stated that you're shortening your life and can basically expect brain injuries. (That I know of) . Is it and should it be ethical to allow young kids to be enticed into throwing away the bulk of their lives, even for massive sums of money? It's certainly unethical for the owners and industry to profit off that suffering.

ScottAHurst comments on Feb 6, 2018:
Until people embrace critical thinking and scientific method as their "way of knowing" their heads are full of random bullshit. Lots of unskeptical atheists believe a whole host of ridiculous notions from anti vax to ancient aliens.
OpposingOpposum replies on Feb 8, 2018:
Going off on a tangent here but... Anti vaxxers often have good reason to distrust the medical community. Look at the opioid epidemic for instance. It's literally been brought about by doctors giving patients medicine to "help" them and it's ruined millions of lives. Then you have that big scandal recently about how.much data has been falsified on scientific research for decades. The general public has no good reason to trust the medical community, researchers included, as we all are aware that profit always trumps our personal well being. Now their grasp of science and the scientific method may be shaky but I think they see which way the wind is blowing and are simply doing what they can to fight back against a faceless, uncaring juggernaut.
