Thank you very much for your kind words. I never thought I'd be able to maintain it. Maybe because the respect I have for the gifts I'm given I ended up taking care of it properly.
Anyone else here enjoy drinking?
Paddypereira comments on Nov 8, 2018:
I drink socially. I prefer a high quality ale that I can drink and enjoy slowly. A good red wine with a good meal. Sometimes a good whiskey or a shot of vodka.

Well, on this, if you ask me if I believe in God, I say no. If you ask me if there is a God, I say I don't know. With all the shit around the world I don't think the chances of the existence of a deity like described in the so called holy books are that big.
How do you view Jesus?
Paddypereira comments on Dec 6, 2023:
There's one thing you've hit the nail in the head: if J. Christ existed, he definitely wasn't a Christian. The rest, I don't know. You might be right or not. I liked the way you've put it though. It's a good point of view.

Paddypereira comments on Mar 31, 2019:
Well, I don't know how it goes in the US but, in Europe, there's no discrimination in general. Some countries have a non-religious majority (I think in Sweden are mostly atheists). I'm Portuguese (mainly Catholic) and I live in Ireland (Catholic by tradition but people are turning their backs to the Church mainly due to the paedophilia scandals that rocked the nation). Still I can say out loud that I don't believe in God that people will accept easily.

Paddypereira comments on Dec 27, 2019:
My reading of the situation is he got a vision from your past in his imagination. People tend to interpretate things than rather looking for facts. This regarding another fellow human. If it was some news, I wouldn't be surprised if he did a fact check. Being about another human he preferred to make his own judgement based on what he was imagining. Attention, this is my interpretation, there are great chances that I'm wrong.

Paddypereira comments on Nov 1, 2020:
I don't know. My answer to your question about what happens after death. The only thing known is that our bodies stop to function, so most likely we stop to exist. After that, who knows?

Why is it so hard to find a lover that shares the same beliefs?
Paddypereira comments on Nov 12, 2019:
On that, everyone is different from each other. So I think it's wiser to accept that the other half will have different beliefs. A few have said to me and I have to believe them that we are all the wrong people trying to make it right.

Does anyone still use “Oh please let me ...” in thought when you want something good to happen?
Paddypereira comments on Nov 12, 2020:
Nope. First time I hear about that expression. Please, bear in mind that English is my second language. In Portuguese, we have the expression "ser bafejado pela sorte", literal translation would be "to be breathed onto by luck". There's a Portuguese soccer manager (football for us Europeans) that says "ser bocejado pela sorte" which means "to be yawned onto by luck"...

I grew up in the Bible Belt in a non-religious home.
Paddypereira comments on Jan 26, 2020:
Although my mother and my older brother believe in God, we very rarely talk about religion. They know very well I'm agnostic. I went to Church many times but never was into the praying thing. Many of my friends are religious. However I never had problems because of being agnostic, even when most of my work colleagues were Muslims. Actually, when I was in that team it was a very good environment. There was this Sikh chap from India that I interviewed and was a very good worker and person, he lives now in Canada. I even went two or three times to Muslim events and felt comfortable despite not being religious. As I never showed discomfort with other people's beliefs I ended up being accepted easily. It depends more on how accepting people are. Many people tried to convert me but, stubborn and individualistic as I am, always went my way.

Paddypereira comments on Dec 7, 2019:
Tough situation. Both of them should respect the other's point of view in theory. In practice, clash of personalities. I bless my family on this. We respect each other, despite our differences. If both would realise that nobody is going to die because of this difference of points of view would make it a lot easier...

Paddypereira comments on May 17, 2020:
I hate people all the same... Lol!!! However, I understand how disgusting it is to see and know these things happen and are people who believe in God who practice it. However, not all religious people are like that.
Why are many Christian people against D&D (Dungeons and Dragons.) playing?
Paddypereira comments on Feb 25, 2020:
Well, when they take religion too seriously, that's what happens. I know African guys that still believe in witchcraft. Very nice people but very backwards on this. What can we do?

What are the biggest challenges you face as an atheist?
Paddypereira comments on Nov 9, 2018:
Well, I have the same challenges as anyone else, it doesn't change by the fact that I'm agnostic/atheist. Life doesn't get any different.
Lets see where the agnostic/atheist community stands.
Paddypereira comments on Feb 27, 2022:
I wish that this post would make a difference and put some sense in the head of Putin. Unfortunately, it's only us, using our freedom of expression to manifest our opinion on the matter. I would like to do something else this time. I was thinking of an open letter directed to Putin himself, although most likely it wouldn't reach him and, if it did, I don't think he'd listen anyway. I even don't know how to do it in a way to become viral. If someone else has a better idea and tries to put it in practice, I would be happy to help and participate.
There are many things that we can debate and argue over with religion.
Paddypereira comments on Jan 28, 2020:
The attempt of supremacy over other creeds. The Crusades, the Holy Inquisition, the nowadays Religious Police in certain Muslim countries. Probably there will be more to point out.
Is This Taboo?
Paddypereira comments on Oct 29, 2018:
If people want to do so, that's their choice. I've never had the chance to get married, I think not having sex at 46 would be quite cruel when you have hormones that dictate your sexual behaviour, but that's my opinion. Morally, I don't think there's anything wrong with sex before marriage, but people are entitled to their opinion and posture on life.
Too soon...?

Thank you to all the people who understood, liked, and/or commented nice things on my post about me ...
Paddypereira comments on Jul 23, 2020:
Well, I'm 48, relatively poor and single and I simply don't care much about it. I became too comfortable with my situation and now it's me the greatest obstacle to get back in a relationship. Add that to a problem trusting people. Just do your best with what you have and don't care about the rest. People will criticise you either way.
This doesn't have anything to do with being agnostic.
Paddypereira comments on Jan 12, 2020:
Well, I moved from Portugal to Ireland 15 years ago. So, it depends on what you want. If you think your relatives in Florida might be something that would make it easier, definitely you should consider as an option. If you move outside of the US, might be interesting for you, a challenge to adapt to a new culture, which might be very hard in the beginning but compensating afterwards.

So I grew up in a rather religious Muslim family and I remember my family being pretty superstitious...

Are the democracies facing our “Shame of Munich” choice in Ukraine?
Paddypereira comments on Feb 21, 2022:
I don't know what to expect these days. Putin is crazy enough to invade the Ukraine but I sure hope he doesn't. Europe has a very long and unprecedented period of peace, only interrupted by the war that led to the separation of Yugoslavia. From my side, I'm just hoping for the best.
Has anyone ever thought about rediscovering religion or thought about going back to the Church?

Why are you agnostic? If you're not agnostic then why are you only a theist or an atheist?
Paddypereira comments on Dec 7, 2020:
Because I don't know if there's a God or not. I don't believe there is but there's no proof for existence or non-existence. I'm more inclined for the second one though I don't take it as a fact.
Those of you who—like me—frequently travel in Europe will completely understand this...

I don't know what to tell you, people will try to help you but everyone has a different opinion and do things differently. While you're working there keep your journal going, write down everything. One thing for sure is to try to find a better workplace. I believe you will make the decision when the time comes for the best or for the worst. Paddypereira comments on Feb 14, 2020:

Paddypereira comments on May 12, 2019:
I agree with the indoctrinated part. Most people educate their kids to follow what they believe in. Only later on in the lives, kids decide whether if they keep following or not. My nephew was raised as a JW but only when he got to late teens, early adulthood, he decided not to go on that direction.
Let's discuss censorship.
Paddypereira comments on Apr 19, 2020:
Once I manifested that I disagreed with someone here and I ended up being told "fuck you", being called an idiot and something similar. I think I showed my position in a respectful manner and this kind of answers I got are unacceptable. I might have been blocked by that individual but I don't care, a person that goes that way to discuss a matter when someone disagrees isn't worth any respect. I'm not here to be insulted as well. These are things that the administration must look into. In your case, I don't know what happened, so I give the benefit of the doubt to you and to the administration of this site.
My father past away this week with the funeral ending just a few hours ago.
