Proof of no god?
Dingodadd comments on Mar 31, 2018:
Atheism is a lack of belief in gods. It’s that simple. We don’t have to prove there is no god, because we’re not making the claim. If you are making an extraordinary claim (like gods exist), you must provide the evidence. Atheism is not a religion. There is no belief of faith involved....
Palindromeman replies on Mar 31, 2018:
@MichaelSpinler Let's agree to disagree. Because the fervency I see in belief is mirrored in atheism. C'mon, how does an atheist *know* there is no deity? Waiting for evidence is a smug way around the issue. Fine; go with your bliss that atheism is a cold, rational viewpoint. I think it's as dodgy as kneeling before a godhead.

Ok, this really does my head in. A believer believes in something for which there is no verifiable evidence. An atheist believes that there is nothing there - despite that there is no verifiable and definitive evidence that nothing is there. Surely, then, both are exercises in faith; both without evidence. I see no difference between belief and atheism.

It's slow; at two and a half hours, it is long. It could have used a decent edit. But 2049 does stay true to the feel of the original. Which I think is about as much as you can hope for. I thought Ryan Gosling as Blade Runner K was suitably shut down for the character he was playing.

Oh, believe me, after what Ridley Scott did to the Alien franchise (thusly introducing us all to the Prometheus School of Running Away From Things, FFS) I was deathly afraid of 2049. Are you an open or closet agnostic/atheist, and why?
freedom41 comments on Mar 25, 2018:
I'm an closet atheist, because my religious family would freak out. I have enough stress in my life. I plan to come out some day. Maybe before the year ends.
Palindromeman replies on Mar 29, 2018:
Apparently we are in the End Days (again, yawn) so you may want to get cracking on that. Otherwise The Rapture could be embarrassing.

I was an agnostic for a while until I actually sat down and read the bible...it was after that I became a die-hard atheist.
Palindromeman replies on Mar 29, 2018:
@Philosopearl I've read the damn thing for research purposes. Long before Rashomon there was The Bible. A bunch of people telling contradictory versions of events which occurred decades before it was written. Reading it didn't shift me from being agnostic; it just gave me deeper bemusement at the thought that The Bible is a literal truth. Have believers even read it?
What is the plural of Jesus?
Palindromeman comments on Mar 29, 2018:
But, my child, surely there is only one true Jesus. Look within and you will find The Truth. Awww, Christ in a sidecar, I can't keep a straight face any further. Yours must be a question which vexes many a Mexican school teacher. Half the class will be a tribe of Jesus named children. I ...
Palindromeman replies on Mar 29, 2018:
@carlyhorton To be honest, I have two stock phrases - the "family friendly" one is Christ in a sidecar, which when you think about it is an amusing image. My second is not so family friendly... And, yes, I would totally buy a band T-shirt with "A sidecar of Jesuses" on it.
Let's start a grammar war! It's Word Wednesday! The origin of "irregardless" is unknown.

Its a toss up between Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Jethro Tull and Trent Reznor...I know you said two but this is a complex question for me to answer. There are a plethora more that I can mention as well. There are just too many influences musically.
Palindromeman replies on Mar 28, 2018:
Well, two was just an arbitrary number I pulled out of the air; list more if you'd like!

@Spinliesel I was just having a bit of fun there; but you could easily slot some Ents in for additional colour.

Chopin piano solos of all kinds. Puts me in another place. I love that a human could make such a beautiful thing, and that another human can play it and bring the person who wrote it back into this reality. Other classical piano as well. I also love good old rock and roll. Just makes me happy. Jerry...

I think Billy Joel's The Nylon Curtain is a criminally under rated classic. All those themes throughout the album are as relevant now as ever.
