I am 63 and unwilling to commit suicide so I really hate these debates because the problem could be solved if all those over the global average age and concerned about it committed suicide. Even if they wouldn't make the numbers, they would never find out. It is pretty much a *bourgeois* debate mainly driven by and amongst people who practice a lifestyle pretty much above the global average. We, not you but me and many others around me, are fatter and drive heavy cars and have more living space and shopping centres (centers for USAiens) than the poorest countries. I find it cynical sacrificing 3rd world people just for a new SUV.

This is verbatim from the TZM website [http://www.zeitgeistaustralia.org/] "As soon as everything was ready to go, Z-Day Global kicked off, starting with my opening presentation, where I spoke about the theme of this year’s Z-Day: Towards Global Unity and Abundance, as well as advice on creating a sustainable and successful chapter, the amount of work involved in making Z-Day happen, ways to avoid economic bigotry, and concluding with a certain framing of encouraging a unified quest to understand the nature of reality rather than personal ambition to win over your perceived opponents." The last bit could come from a JWs' convention: "*to win over your perceived opponents*" Perhaps I am too critical but the ambience was pretty much divided into the within and without I am not a meat eater but I don't want people telling me that I have to become a vegan

Once I had an acquaintance ... Some fundi Christian freak but otherwise harmless ... After each visit just before leaving he would say: "I am saying a *little* (fuck just a little) prayer for you." ... War and religion
PontifexMarximus comments on May 7, 2018:
Part of the business model is the promise of salvation, but to make that a palatable incentive fear mongering is essential. Just watch old movie where mobsters intimidate shopkeepers and than sell their protective services. Guess where the Mafia copied the template? The three major monotheistic religions with all their tentacles promote Armageddon as the *final solution*. Then they give you the contract for a ticket. First prize: *One way to Paradise everything included* a sort of heavenly *Club Med*. Some religions at least tell you that there is a finite number of prizes avaiblable. Religions are the main promoters of war.

PontifexMarximus comments on May 7, 2018:
I just reread the conditions for this website. In your profile there is a caveat regarding the photos: no nudity. Ok I understand that this site is based in Trumplandia. But it is weird how timid the administration of the site is considering the vulgar baffoon the runs the US of A. Obviously *nudity* is morally reprehensible yet magazines like Playboy, Hustler, National Geographic all have their origin the USA. Is morality just an instrument to keep certain goods, e.g. Nudity, a commercial commodity? I guess you all know about the VW Diesel scandal ... It was highly immoral what this company did. But now that the owners of the cars have lost their innocence are the acting immorally by continuing to use these mobile air polluting devices? One person here mention how s/he contracted herpes from a lover because s/he did not tell about his herpes status. We should all accept our decisions and stand by them. If our own moral standards are out of synch with the community we act in, we shall accept the consequences. More people should be more vocal if they disagree with the prevailing standards.

We, the common people, only accept it because most don't have the resources. At the top of societies the rules are very different. And there are marked differences between different cultures. Perhaps there are also ethnic differences in female libido. The marital shell is a convenient *shopfront*. Interestingly enough there are several jurisdictions that allow polygyny but apparently there is none allowing polyandry. Weird world ...

Recently I was intercepted by a old codger, my age mid 60s, and a somewhat retarded young woman in her 20s, pushing a new brand of religion: Jews for Jesus or something like that. She: Jesus loves you. Me: Who? She: Jesus Me: Oh... I like cheeses She No ... Jeeeesus. Me: What type: Roquefort, Reblochon . Are you asking me about my cheese eating habits? She: don't you know Jesus? Me: Is he a local? Try the information booth ... Pointing in the direction. She was getting desperate ... So her old codger supervisor walked over to us ... I think she was under instruction. The he started telling me that Jesus loves me? Me: Is he male? Old cadger: yes ... He ... Me: sorry mate I am not into that sort of thing. The scene lasted for about 10 and I even enjoyed the spiel
Freethinking Atheist
PontifexMarximus comments on May 6, 2018:
Freethinking includes being able to accept that there are phenomena that one cannot grasp without feeling the need to invent a magician who is behind all the mysteries. Gravity, magnetism, quarks are all rather mysterious for the outsider, but they don't necessitate the invention of a god or hordes of gods.

I guess good dictators, and mean good as in being good at being dictators, are just good manipulators and psychopath. I don't think that Hilter would have been able to kill someone with his own hands, but he knew how to manipulate people. I think we often tend to forget that a dictator without henchmen is nothing. The goals are good by their standards and the fact that it might cost millions of lives doesn't deter them, probably quite in the contrary. Being able to take large numbers of lives promotes them to god status. Fundamentally good people don't even become foremen.

Any former Mormons here?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 6, 2018:
When I became somewhat acquainted with the English language I confused morons with Mormons. Then someone enlighted me and said the morons with ties are Mormons. So each time I saw a pimpled face sitting atop a white, immaculately white, shirt and the black name tag I remembered this. So I thought Mormons only had a male model called "elder" despite their lack of maturity. In 2002 I saw, for the first time a female Mormon. Honestly when I saw her I immediately forgot all my years as an atheist and believed in God. She was strictly stunning. Her face was truly angelic. So I told her that during the night her god had called me and told me about the magic encounter with Sister Hackman and gave me a message for her. She looked stunned and was absolutely silent. I realised how their mob's indoctrination had given me the edge. But fortunately/unfortunately my father conscience kicked in and I just told her that her God had told me that Sister Hackman ought to travel to France, to Orleans and to Rouen and that she would understand the message once she found the cross in the pavement of the market place in Rouen. When I left she just stood motionless staring into the distance. I thought about returning and inviting her to have coffee. I still remember her face and her smooth hands.

Fellow agnostics, how do you feel about believers joining?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 5, 2018:
With all due respect in my opinion your question is wrong. Atheist are the true believers. Faithless are those who seek refuge in religious congregations. Atheist tailor their own faithsuit made from selected faithal fabrics and lined with fine faithal tissue. Whereas the followers of religions get a faith off the shelf regardless of their individual needs. One faith fits all! An atheist's faith in life and nature is far more nuanced and subtle. We come without an owner's manual, we script it. Welcome!!!

Is it better to legalize prostitution or keep it illegal
PontifexMarximus comments on May 5, 2018:
Distasteful ... I guess this term can easily be applied to many situations. I am pretty sure that the vast majority of meat eaters would describe the atmosphere in a slaughterhouse as distasteful. The effects of war are distasteful as is the situation of millions of people around the world who barely survive scouring through piles of garbage. Many job are distasteful. As I child I felt anally violated, and literally was, when my mother pushed a suppository up my tiny butthole. Luckily I was usually anally retentive enough to keep it. Well it was for health reasons. Just the way you think of the distasteful activity of prostitution. Honestly I am baffled by this juxtaposition. I know of many jobs that are even more "distasteful" than prostituion. Actually every paid work is a form of prostituion. Why does it matter so much what part of one's body one uses to generate an income? Increasingly the states rely on mercenaries to do the dirty killing on their behalf ... That is not just distasteful but frankly disgusting.

Why should it matter to a Christian what an atheist thinks?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 5, 2018:
I guess for many of the staunch believers it's like having sex with an unprotected soul. Perhaps it is not really so much about their god/s but their divine insurance policy. I remember once living with a born again Christian who even wanted a child with me. I was very skeptical about her religious zeal, but totally flummoxed by her contradictions. She had a bible in very corner of every room in her cottage and a stash of dope behind every bible. She did all sorts of things that seemed utterly incompatible with her "belief" including having 2 abortions.

Religious upbringing
PontifexMarximus comments on May 5, 2018:
I was raised a cultural Christian with a twist. My daughter still has a fork and a spoon as proof of my baptism/christening on the 1st of October 1955, almost a year after my birth. That was one formality to be ticked off. I have absolutely no recollection of that moment. Perhaps if I had I might have become a believer. There were far too many twists in my personal sphere to take any religious element really seriously. Nominally my father was a Protestant of the Lutheran kind. So "his" side won the baptism competition. My mother was a Catholic and they had made a better offer for the wedding. There was probably no Lutheran church in a profoundly Catholic town of the profoundly Catholic Rhineland. Once I started to get to know the people around me the religious division became clearer and according to my mother I started to understand the world with it deviations. One day I mention that someone was a Catholic. My mother asked me how I knew. "She's a girl." So I had amalgamated sex and religious affiliation: My mother, my grandmother, all my mother's aunts were Catholics and they were all married to Lutherans. So for me it was evident. The problem was that somehow the dominant god was a Catholic and a man. I thought this was rather implausible and I gave the whole idea a miss. I stopped thinking about what was supposed to be the prime motive of the various religions. When I was about 4.6 I thought I should give it a go and start prying. Because I knew that my brothers would mock me if the caught me I hid under my parents' massive oak bed to do the deed. I guess the was just too much metal in the frame and the spring mattresses and the whole bloody thing probably acted as a Faraday cage and my prayers didn't make it to their destination. Perhaps I didn't fold my hands properly, there is a difference between the Catholic way and the Protestants'. Christmas came and the little bicycle I got was blue. "Fuck (free translation)" I thought. And rather than considering that the god or one of his helpers was colourblind. I never went back to my prayer den under my parents' bed. I remained an interested observer but never thought about embracing the idea of faith into some sort of divine authority. But I continued to pretend to be part of the plot and attended some sort of afternoon induction into the stuff. My brother had made a ton of money and gifts. The mental pain caused by these silly sessions was only alleviated by the presence the cute girl I had ever seen: long black hair with the matching eyebrows and a poetic first name. Her eyes were dark and mysterious. We were about 13 at the beginning for this silliest of courses and 15 at the end. There was a hitch. All the participants also had to attend church on Sundays. How did many of you first realize that a life free from religion was right for you?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 4, 2018:
Well as a result of centuries of inbreeding I am short and I was even shorter during my childhood. So my growing up was slow and rather unsuccessful. However, when I was 10 I had reached my grandmother's, my mother's adoptive mother, level and could talk to her eye-2-eye. I think it was on a Saturday when I realised. I planted myself in front of her and said, obviously very convincingly, that I was big, big as in adult. She just nodded and said in a rather hesitant voice: "So?" Me: "Well, from now on I don't have to accompany you on your dominical procession to the church, grantherfather's tomb and Frau Kurt." Her answer was as prompt as it was short: "Fine!" The next morning I was for the first time all alone in a big house, a treasure cove of mysteries. BTW this newly acquired status also allowed me to move into another bedroom. For years I had to sleep in my granfather's bed in which he had died. So it was the first time in my life, excluding baby years about which I remember precious little, that I had slept in a room all alone. When I woke up I just heard how granny shut the door behind her. I rushed to the window to check whether she was really leaving or just pretending and waiting behind the door. She wasn't. I saw her already crossing the road. At that moment I really loved that little plump oversized soft toy. Just then I felt really emotionally attached and I realised that I had never appreciated an aerial view of her. After this first surprising moment of discovering my feelings for that strange being I thought it was time to get into action. No bothering too much about hygiene I just slipped into my clothes and into the lounge room which must have been my grandfather's officeMy head felt like a carousel, some thoughts seemed to drift away by centrifugal force only to bounce off my meninges. My opened the door large bookcase/cupboard. On the lower shelf was a pile of magazine pages very neatly piled up. Almost instantly I realised that this was the result of granny's meticulous execution of her censorship task. I don't even wether I had ever realised that the magazines she had always passed on to my mother had been subject to rigorous censorship. I only remember my father correcting her crossword mistakes. Here I was standing in amazement. I imagine the people seeing the Berlin Wall come down couldn't have been more amazed. I was looking at a piles hundred or even thousands of photos of naked women whose shapes had nothing in common nor with my granny's nor with my mother's. Somewhat timidly I took a few. I realised they were in chronological order. So thought it was safer to extract a few from within the pile. I felt a little shaky as I lifted a pile of several hundred pages and carefully set it down. Then I grabbed several ...

When did you first doubt religion?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 4, 2018:
I don't think one can really doubt about religions their manifestations are ubiquitous. Have you ever met anyone who hasn't heared names such as Jesus or Mohammed. Most people in "western" are branded with biblical given names. There is absolutely no doubt that religions exist. As to the veracity of their underlying principles, e.g. eistence of divine manipulators and magicians, I developed my doubts when I was about 4.6. I even tried praying, but I did it under my parents bed. Perhaps the mattress was too thick and contained too many metal coils perhaps my prayers never reached their destination or they were poorly translated. Whatever the reason after Christmas 1959 I gave up; I was 5.2. I never really thought about it again until about 50 years later my daughter asked me permission to become a Christian. My first response was: "Holy Shit". Then her mother, whom I had known for about 25 years at the time, said "I believe in god too." ... "No kidding" I said

PontifexMarximus comments on May 4, 2018:
Christendom is not particularly bad, all religions and stifling doctrines are. The real drama is the usage of religions as instruments of power and oppression. Don't worry about the bible. There are idiots out there who will tell any nonsense some of their cult leaders exfiltrate from the bible as others do from the Koran and yet others from the Financial Times.

PontifexMarximus comments on May 3, 2018:
Overall and despite the ethnic diversity the country is shockingly racist. Those who are the prime targets: the indigenous peoples. Australians love to portrait themselves like a beer ad: tough and resilient. In reality most are timid and sheepish. So they manage to be well represented in politics by some of the most stupid politicians, a bit like smaller versions of Trump. Behind the fake facade of the rule of laws reigns the muck of corruption. Unfortunately affordable corruption has been eradicated. Some high ranking official was accused of corruption and as a punishment he was not allowed to turn up to work but the stream of money AU$ 540 000 pa wasn't cut. From the outside Australia looks like the 2nd driest continent, but step into it and you realise: it's a swamp. Movie to watch: Welcome to WoopWoop. Should public nudity be legal?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 3, 2018:
I think there are some societies that want to have it both ways: no nudity and no burqa either. Nudity should be seen as natural, but it would spoil the magazine and porn market. If people could see nudity for free and get used to enjoying it actively and passively, the industry that sells it would go bankrupt or at least lose some of its glamour and stigma. It would be educational too. I remember my daughters, who grew up in hypocrite Australia, getting out of the car at a German "Baggersee" (resulting from sand excavation near rivers) where everybody was naked, Everybody, not just the young and gorgeous. For about 5 mintues they were stunned and ... My elder daughter, about 15 joined in within 5 minutes ... I think my younger kept her swimmers on. Both enjoyed the swim and forgot about the nudity of others.
Preferred age range
PontifexMarximus comments on May 3, 2018:
Age can be a factor in certain activities. A friend, a very good friend took me to some sort of adventure park. To obtain a seniors discount she piled another year on my chronological account. Once inside several activities, e.g. camel riding, being driven in an open army truck through sand dunes, had upper ages limits. Swiftly she trimmed about 5 years of my age balance. So age matters. When I asked about the age of camels and the army truck, which seemed to have survived the cultural revolution, no answer was forthcoming.
How do you want to be buried?

I hope there is a very cheap solution to dispose of the dead body that I will leave behind.
It was before I realized I was a atheist and I was doing a cleanse for the first time.

You could probably achieve the same much faster by hyperventilating.
Should Atheist be tolerant of religion or should it be treated as unacceptable social behavior?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 2, 2018:
The difficulty is that so much of history is religiously tarnished. Even the non believers have heard about the major religious brand names and the action heroes. I compare it to the proliferation of junk food brands. Most people would know about McDonald's and KFC even if they are not consumers. Having said that recently I took a shortcut through a church. Inside I checked for elements that would give the brand away. There was a sort of menu but I still didn't know. Then I saw a young woman at the operating panel for the organ. So I asked her. When she said that she was just the organ fixer and only knew the brand of the organ but not the church, I had to giggle.

Atheist should not start a "holy" war against religion, but they should not shy away from voicing their position. CAVEAT: perhaps you should abstain from doing so in Saudi Arabia!
Unfortunately, this will not change the mind of trumposoids: "Illegal Immigration Does Not Increase...
PontifexMarximus comments on May 2, 2018:
Language is a fundamental problem and not just in Trumplandia ... There is really no such thing as "illegal immigration"... It is this weird fiction that is used to remote control people's minds ...
Does anyone have advice for a person that's been an atheist less than 3 months?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 2, 2018:
Just think back to your birth. The default setting for all babies is nameless, stateless and areligious. You just recovered!
Incest: Immoral or Moral?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 2, 2018:
Why would one bother about this question? One should not worry about morality because their is no unversial edition of it. Just learn to own your decisions! Is it moral to pollute the air by driving a car?
What happens after death?
PontifexMarximus comments on May 2, 2018:
If you are talking about your own, just don't worry about it. You won't be there to live it.
