Deconversion

If the election was held today, who would you vote for and why?
QuidamOutrepont comments on Jun 14, 2019:
This fall, since I'm a Quebec separatist, I'll vote for the Bloc Québécois and his new leader Yves-François Blanchet. In my riding, the Bloc candidate will probably be Stéphane Bergeron. (Oh! You mean the elections in the U.S?!)
Are there brands you don't use for environmental or other reasons?
QuidamOutrepont comments on Jun 14, 2019:
I think choosing or not choosing to buy something is one of the most powerful political decision you can make. Probably even more powerful than when you vote. I think you change the face of the world every time you buy something. Will you encourage the local little guy, the fair and ethical workers coop or the creepy mega multinational billionaire? Of course, it's not always easy, not always obvious. Too often, the market seems to be tilted and rigged by the big guys. I'll certainly pick a credit union over a big bank. As much as I can, a local product instead of an imported one.

QuidamOutrepont comments on Jun 12, 2019:
The city where I was born, the city of Montreal, was founded in 1642 by a group of French catholic missionaries who had two objectives: to open an outpost for the fur trade and to convert the Mohawks and the Wendats (Hurons) to the catholic religion. I think that sums up pretty much what the European nations did on the American continent: to strip off the First Nations of everything they had, their land, their culture, their languages, their identities, their lives all in the name of a so-called supremacy and the reckless exploitation of the natural resources. Too often, the First Nations are like a third world within our own borders. To admit our wrongs is one thing, to bring back fairness is another. It takes political will and the funds to go with it, something that our leaders never even came close to have. It mostly takes the will to stand up against the corporations that sees the First Nations as an obstacle in their way of reaching for the resources of the land (mines, oil), the forests (lumber) and the rivers (hydro dams).
And that ended the baby shower pot lucks.

QuidamOutrepont comments on Jun 11, 2019:
I spent my life going back and forth between the city of Montreal and its suburbs. I was born on the north side of town in a neighborhood called Villeray. When I was seven, my family moved across the Saint-Lawrence river in the southern suburbs in Longueuil. At the age of 20, I left my family's house and went back in the city, back in Villeray first, then in Hochelaga, then on the Plateau Mount-Royal, and in Rosemont after that. Later, five years ago, I found a job in the southern suburbs in Saint-Hubert, then I met a lady, also from Saint-Hubert. After a while, she gently offered me to move at her place. So, here I am. I live in a quiet and small neighborhood surrounded by fields and woods, about twelve miles from downtown Montreal. I must admit that I have mixed emotions about where I am. Sure, the place where I live is nice and quiet, but you know what they say, you can get a guy out of town but you can't get the town out of the guy.

QuidamOutrepont comments on Jun 11, 2019:
Quebec's proud contribution to fast-food: poutine! (nothing to do with the russian president) French fries + curds of squeeky fresh white cheddar cheese + hot brown beef gravy And that's the basic poutine because there are plenty of variations: Michigan poutine with spaghetti sauce, poutine with chicken, or smoked meat, bacon, steak, pepperoni. Some fancy restaurant came up with some foie gras poutine. I even saw a desert poutine in an ice cream parlour! The fries were made with donut dough, the cheese was replaced with marshmallow and it was topped with a butterscotch sauce. (Why do you call them FRENCH fries anyway?! They're not even French, they're more like Belgian. Anyway, in French, we don't call them French fries, we just call them fries, or in worst cases, fried potatoes)

Our governments treat us like livestock and those borders are our fences. They don't want some diseases to spread around like love, freedom, solidarity, democracy. You know what many people say: one person's freedom ends where another person's freedom begins. Or, good news: you're free, bad news: everybody else is free. I wonder if good ideas can stand and can be defended by themselves or is it always coming down to the reason of the strongest. I think when you go down on name-calling and insults, that means you ran out of arguments and you're losing the game. Whether you're doing a bad job defending a good idea or the idea you're defending doesn't stand a chance.

Andrew Scheer will win in the next federal election... Trudeau has messed Canada up to bad.
QuidamOutrepont comments on Jun 8, 2019:
I knew Trudeau would never be fit for the job of Prime Minister. The way he quickly turned around about reforming the election system right after his election. For me it's just one more proof that he's nothing more than a puppet whose strings are pulled by the Toronto banksters cartel. Or when he signed the Paris agreement on climate, only to turn around and buy an oil pipeline pour 4.5 billions$! How about that SNC-Lavallin mess?! It's a private wing of the liberal corruption system! But talk about going from bad to worse: Andrew Scheer?! Is he going the declare martial law to pass his tar crap pipelines through Quebec and BC?!!! Is he going to ban abortions and to bring back death penalty? The 1950's have called. They want their outdated ideas back! Jagmeet Singh? He seems out of his element outside the Toronto area. Anyway, that's Canadian business. I'm voting for the Bloc Québécois. A strong majority of the Quebec seats for the Bloc and a minority government for the liberals or the tories, that would be funny.
Hellos from Quebec.
QuidamOutrepont comments on Jun 7, 2019:
There will be a federal election in Canada this fall to elect the Prime Minister and the members of the House of Commons. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his liberal party will seek to be reelected and will be facing amongst others the Conservatives, the New Democratic Party (NDP, social-democrats), the Green Party and the Bloc Québécois (Québec separatists). To my opinion, a major stake in this election will be the expansion of the Alberta tar sands and the pipelines to deliver the oil on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts for exportation.

To put it in words and to let some steam out seems to me like a good thing to do. In my humble opinion, the next step for you would be to better surround yourself. To find someone you can trust to share a bit of your burden, ears to listen to you, arms to hug you, shoulders to lay your head on and to cry a bit of it off. It could even be someone you don't know at all that might give you a completely outside point of view. I think life is too short and too precious to waste it away with anger, hate and grudge. Of course, most of the time, anger is important, useful. Like a blinking light on the dashboard of a car, it can warn us that something is wrong. I guess what makes all the difference is how we respond to anger. We say "la colère est mauvaise conseillère", anger is a bad advisor. You might follow your anger and take a swift decision, make a swift move that your might regret afterwards. Or you could step back, take a deep breath, have a cold blooded look at the situation and come up with a better solution, less hurtful for you and everyone else.

Let's say it's a business where environmental good intentions goes in face-to-face collision with the brutal reality of globalized capitalism. Sure, it's better to recycle than to trash. But remember the three Rs. You see that recycling is not plan A, it's not even plan B, it's more like plan C. It's important to Reduce first, to Re-use second, only after that you Recycle. QuidamOutrepont comments on May 29, 2019:
It think it's a mistake to put all nationalisms in the same basket. It's a mistake to say they're all good or all bad. I think some are good and some are bad. If you feel good and you care about where you come from or where you live, that's good. If you start to hate, attack and try to get on top of anybody else, that's when nationalism becomes a problem. The European Union has the potential of being a good thing. But if the deal goes all wrong, if some powerful global financial interests put way too much weight in the balance, some nations might feel left out. Some nations might feel they have too much to lose in the EU, they might ask for some major change or even want to leave the Union all together. In some cases, no deal at all may be better than a bad deal. For example, I'm a Quebec separatist. I think that Quebec would be far better off as a country of its own than to remain one of the ten provinces of the Canadian confederation. It doesn't mean that we hate the rest of the world and that we want to clamp down on ourselves. We just want a better kind our relationship with our neighbors and the rest of the world.
