I think the field of human knowledge would be much greater without religion in it's way. And since religion is a pilar of tyranny, there would be less oppression, more sharing.

As atheist and agnostics what in your opinion is the odds of there being a afterlife ?
QuidamOutrepont comments on Jan 8, 2019:
I don't believe in any form of afterlife. No heaven, no hell, no reincarnation, no nothing. Death for me is a dreamless sleep for eternity, a one-way trip of our consciousness into oblivion. I believe we are made of matter and energy. Both are eternal, but when we die, they just both scatter away in their separate ways.

A few years ago, I accepted to be the godfather in the christening of a baby kid in the family of one of my ex-girlfriends. Boy did I regretted this. Standing in front of people in a catholic church, holding a candle in my hand, having to endure all those praises to god and the "welcoming of a new member in the catholic family". Why did I say yes to that!? A few years later, I refused to be the godfather of my own nephew, the son of my brother, to the complete dismay of my whole family. But I never had any regrets about this. I sure didn't want to be a part of that whole crap all over again.

Everytime I hear about people claiming they saw UFO's, It always reminds me about Star Trek's Prime Directive. If some alien lifeforms from a distant planet are able make it all the way here to Earth, if they don't want to be seen, how could apes with car keys like us could ever have a chance to see them?! The universe is so wide, in my humble opinion, it's highly unlikely that we're alone in it. I find it rather plausible that aliens came to or are presently on Earth. But I think it's nearly impossible for any of us to see them.

QuidamOutrepont comments on Dec 27, 2018:
You just did something good for yourself, you expressed yourself, you're telling us something about you, about what's going on with your life. That's a good first step. I had some moments of sadness and loneliness in my past and I found myself some help to pull me through. I took some time to know a bit more about myself, about what I need to be happier. I made some plans, I went out and did something with my life. I hope you'll figure your stuff out and get better soon too.

QuidamOutrepont comments on Dec 16, 2018:
Quebec is the only Canadian province with a majority of French speakers. We held two referendums about separating ourselves from Canada to become an independant country, but both times, the answer was no, including a nail-biting 50.5% in 1995. Almost all of our electricity is made with hydroelectric dams. Our contribution to fast food is poutine (nothing to do with the russian president). Our cars only have license plates in the back, not in the front. We have our motto on our licence plates, "Je me souviens", which means "I remember". The name Quebec comes from an Anishinabeg (Algonquin) word meaning "where the river narrows". That's because when you sail the St. Lawrence river upstream, the river narrows in front Quebec City.
