I did this for my sister who visits regularly who likes her decaf coffee at night and only drinks one cup after dinner. I was a bit of a coffee snob who likes fresh ground coffee daily but thought it my duty to try to find the tastiest coffee for my guests. I tried the regular Donut Shop coffee and was hooked. I still make my fresh ground on occasion but I have turned into a keurig whore.

I just made mine last night in a crock pot. I put a big jar of Ragu in the pot followed by a can of chopped tomatoes, paste, thyme, rosemary, chopped onion, crushed garlic, about a 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and a little salt and sugar. Then, 2 pounds 90% beef browned with fat removed. 1 pound of cooked regular pork sausage and 1 pound of cooked sweet sausage (Fat removed). I added about a 1/4 bottle of red wine and let it slow cook in the crock for 4-5 hours. I tasted it, added a little more wine and salt and it was ready! I then get some frozen Texas Toast and pan fry it after adding a little garlic salt to it. Works MUCH better than baking it. I put the spag on a plate, add some finely grated sharp cheddar on the spag then top it with my chunky sauce. I make enough to feed an army. I live alone so I let the rest chill overnight in the crock. Today I will take it out and transfer it to Foodsaver vacuum bags and store them in the freezer. I'll have 7-8 servings at least. Then, all I need to do when I want it again is to put the frozen bag into a large pot of cold water. Put the pot on the stove on high and bring it to a boil. When the water starts to boil the spag is usually ready to eat! I have had my spag up to 6-7 months later and it tastes just as good as the day I made it. This works great when I am feeling like I want something home cooked but don't feel like cooking.

Well... I have a whole house generator and a 1,000 gallon propane tank buried in my side yard. With judicious use (and a full tank) it would keep me going about a month. In that time I would fabricate a gasifier unit to obtain wood gas to power the genset when the propane ran out. They built and used gasifiers a lot in WWII and FEMA published plans years ago as to how to build them. 1880's technology few people know about these days. Even still... I wouldn't need gas as I have a river right behind me that could provide the turning power I need for the generator. If we were returned to the stone age... I am sure the county wouldn't mind me fabricating something. An EMP (Natural or man-made) would probably have me working overtime. I'd have to break out my micro soldering station to replace fried electronics. Still no power? I would probably band together with neighbors and wait for family and friends to roll in with what they have. With no power anywhere... Most people will die within the first year. The first to go are those that require medications to survive. The next part would be the slow starvation of the rest as all perishable food would rot within days or weeks. You want to see the zombies? Guess what... You'll see them then! With no supply chain to keep the stores stocked... It won't be pretty!

I'm thinking dehydrated rice, beans, etc for next go around. You just never know. I am not a prepper but I do like to be at least a little on the prepared side.
