How do you deal with Door-knockers?

When I lived in a neighborhood where people would go door-to-door, I posted a NO SOLICITING sign. Of course they would ignore this. My first question to them was to ask if they could read. When they said yes... I told them they must have missed my NO SOLICITING sign. They automatically jump to the "Oh, we aren't asking for money!" It was then I would reach into the little drawer in a plant stand I had by the front door. I kept slips of paper in there with this printed on it... so·lic·i·ta·tion /səˌlisəˈtāSH(ə)n/ noun noun: solicitation; plural noun: solicitations the act of asking for or trying to obtain something from someone. I would hand them the definition, then close the door.

+1 on Lyft. But to make any money.... You need to be available when THEY want you... Not necessarily when you are free. If you stick with it... Check with your auto insurance to make sure you and passengers are covered!

I guess I see it through different eyes. I am in sales and part of my job is setting and managing expectations. Yes, this can be done in a manipulative manner.... But also in a loving, caring manner. (Or, in a business manner as I do.) It is all in the approach. Showing the other(s) what is in it for them is helpful.

My mom (of all people) told me that I come off as "harsh" when telling people that I am an Atheist. She suggested that I tell people that I am "spiritual" instead. That bothers me as the religious right loves to waive religion everywhere. I don't go out advertising that I am Atheist... And there might be certain settings where I avoid this conversation entirely. (I work in sales so I need to be careful.) But I admit to a deep satisfaction at times watching people's reaction to my response that I am an Atheist... Or that I am not a Christian.

My parents were both Unitarian. They both felt strongly that I should be introduced and educated on most everything out there and then make up my own mind. I used to identify as Agnostic. I read the Bible (different versions) 3 times. My thoughts are that we "happened" and were not "planned" as a planet and species.
