So my point is - be patient with yourself. The habits we've set in our minds were done by our well meaning parents....and they're stronger and more deeply set than any drug addiction. Keep a scale handy and weigh yourself regularly. Avoid cursing and swearing when you gain. Just think about what you ate the day before. Every animal on the planet deals with hunger every day. We're the only ones who habitually avoid it. I feel for you. I'm 76, close to ideal weight, work out daily, and have given up dating. I have an on and off semi-steady lady friend...and we both are "sort of" intimate"....but it's pretty much a lost cause to pretend to make babies at our age. I'm sad that you say; "The only women who contact me on these dating sites are usually 75 to 85 and don't have a pulse"....those women have a pulse - they're still alive, and are still brave enough to reach out to you. I recommend you try to contact them...it's either communicate with them or be proud of your intimidation strong enough to die alone...

Thin and warm on top, dense and cold many miles below. and There might not be a solid surface to land on....it might get gradually more dense with descent - but not have a solid surface at all?

Perhaps I have not been paying close enough attention.
