I'm confident that we as a society - even the collective "we" as a world - are over a hump. Wind energy is growing fast. Tesla stock is rising quickly - and they already opened a Gigafactory In China, and they're working on one in Germany. I don't see subsidies and taxes as a solution; I see human trends. @flower_nut Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I'm in my 70's and will be lucky to see 2-3 decades of sea level rise -right where I live, here, on the beach, in Ft. Pierce, Florida. So...if it continues as forecast....I could see nearly 3 feet of my beach disappear by the time I'm 100...and 3 feet high translates to nearly 50 feet inland. The point of the article is that beaches form only if seas are slowly receding - or at least stable in level. I don't think that's happening anywhere in the world right now. Beach "nourishment" is a "thing" here in Florida; up and down the coast municipalities are paying big $$ to suck sand from off shore and pump it back on the beach. Of course; we know we're fighting a losing battle with the 1/8 inch per year rise....which actually is a modest estimate...it might go higher. Florida is forecast to go sooner than most well populated areas. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/jun/26/rising-seas-florida-climate-change-elizabeth-rush

@Word Wow; you got a hate thing going for the Masons, huh? They're just a bunch of old guys who like to dress up, do secret handshakes, talk about devotion to women, and do nice funerals. Lighten up, dude. And yea, our ancestors - and yours - came to America, destroyed the native Americans, and did a lot of shameful things to Africans. What's your point? I think you missed my point. Dave1459, the OP above, was talking about an article written by Steve G. about the need for Americans to "see the president fail". I said I don't think that's the case....it's' more like a strong hatred for a profound liar. But you got off on a Masonic-hate thing...why? Ordinarily I'd let slide and block and report you; except I've known too many good American Masons including my dad, and I think you're a reasonable chap....I hope.

@AnonySchmoose Nice try, young lady. But as I replied above - politicians in America and most industrial nations are too well "lobbied" by the FFC...the fossil fuel consortium. Notice this; The proposal with the most cosponsors, totaling 64 Democrats and 1 Republican as of the end of September 2019, is the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (EICDA. 64 democrats and 1 Republican No chance of that bill passing. We need profit incentives. Tesla stock (TSLA) just went above 400. Alternative energy stocks are rising while Fossil fuel and I.C.E.car maker stocks are not. The end is in sight. Taxing these people will never be approved...and will never work.

@bingst As I said, above; Carbon taxes won't work. Even Musk, who was for them in the 2015 presentation, above - has since changed his mind. @AnonySchmoose Indeed; you're right; "The largest source of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities in the United States is from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation." https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/sources-greenhouse-gas-emissions But I still see the industry changing simply because powering homes, business, including agri-business will soon be easier, cheaper and wiser using wind, hydro (running water) and solar (both P.V. and direct solar (greenhouses, hot water heaters) instead of mining, shipping, and burning fuels. Again; I give it 10 years to see a significant change; but I honestly doubt the Carbon tax will ever work. Don't get me wrong; I'm for doing something. I constantly post about the FF subsidies being larger than Alt/energy subsidies, the absurdly low fuel taxes in Russia and the U.S. etc. But I don't see anyone "buying in" to the carbon tax....and even if they do they are, as I said, "paying for prolonging their sins". @AnonySchmoose We're a long way away from implementing a Carbon tax; and that still gives polluters a way to "pay for their sins"... I say let's find a better way. Alternative energy is growing rapidly. EV's are growing rapidly. Soon gas will be prohibitively cheap....it won't profit the oil companies to mine it. How soon? The portable phone revolution took 10-15 years. The computer revolution too 10-15 years. I give EV's and wind-generators another 5-10 years before they really become dominant in our society. Then we just won't need a carbon tax. https://www.energy.gov/eere/articles/4-charts-show-renewable-energy-rise-america

Robecology replies on Dec 22, 2019:
A third scenario; McConnell...having talked with all the potential "witnesses" and making sure they don't say anything "critical" to the defense of Trump....gives in and lets these characters testify. The strongly biased "witnesses" and the strongly biased "senate" will - IMO - acquit Trump - although this might be drawn out well past the primaries and even the democratic convention. Trump still has a strong chance of winning in 2020. The key will be the determination of the American voter.

The main drawback is the time you have to sit while on road trips waiting for the Supercharger to charge it up...it'll take a good hour to gain 100+ miles...but it's a lot faster than overnight charging at your local outlet. But that's what you need if you use the car as a commuter vehicle...a 120 volt plug at home, near where you park. Parking overnight gives you 35-40 miles per night. Here's the link to join our group.
