Stilt homes with raised driveways are becoming the norm in the keys....they won't be "swallowed" in our lifetimes...and perhaps not for decades to come. What might be worse than sea level rise is the shift in ideal crop growing zones. The warming might shift rain zones so that, for example, South Florida Tomatoes and vegetables might not be competitive with Mexico and California for sustained business...or California could have their growing season knocked out of normal ranges. That's the more significant threat from global warming...not so much sea level rise.

@Haemish1 My point is that you were complaining about Pizza recipes...but then show us a decadent pie which looks calorie dense. I'm suggesting that you CAN make a pizza using that same recipe - just spread the dough out on a flat pan...then top as desired. There's high protein/low carb cheeses as well. And if you're on a serious diet - I'd avoid the Pepperoni. Try dried chicken strips, or even smoked salmon. Pepperoni is an awfully calorie dense pseudo-meat...and if you read the ingredients you see you're getting a chemical soup as well. You can get pure pork cuts and make your own "pepperoni" with spices that are fresh...and preservative-free; and if you want to avoid the "casings" just get a lean cut of beef or pork, thin slice it....spice it up, fry or bake it....then refrigerate...no preservatives involved. https://www.thespruceeats.com/homemade-pepperoni-recipe-1808542

Robecology replies on Sep 20, 2019:
@Fernapple Even the scientist within the video kept on pointing to issues...his main example being that many monoculture tree are harvested for their products....hence defeating the purpose of pushing tree planting... So, while some nations are doing token forest replacement, we're losing virgin forests at the rate of "hectares (2.5 acres) per few seconds" http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/env/ SOLUTION; Stop looking at tree replacement. As long as we are increasing (158 more births, than deaths, per minute) we will need more land for residences and farming. We must look to our oceanic pre-plants. They're actually growing faster due to the warmth; that's why record seaweed blooms are being reported. We just need to help them by reducing and restricting oceanic pollution. Trees are not only, as you say, "one of the small things."...it's a mis-direction. ULTIMATE SOLUTION; ZPG...zero population growth...family planning in place and practiced by all.

Robecology replies on Sep 19, 2019:
That's like asking is there a religion that's called the scientific method? Agnosticism means - literally - "a strategy for one who doesn't know". Agnostics are folks who demand evidence, facts, and proof that any "faith-based" idea or theory is true. They don't buy in to the "faith-based" stories. These stories are myths...nice stories that might be based in truth...but with no evidence....we just don't "believe" them. So Agnostics don't "believe" In agnosticism...they simply practice it...or take that POV.

Then a few townships north or south - in some cases less than 100 miles - they're suffering inundation during "spring" tides ( these tides occur when the sun, moon and the Earth all line up). Take a drive down to the Fla Keys sometime. Go down a side street. Look at new construction. Everyone with serious money is building "stilt" homes and very raised driveways. They know what's coming. They just don't care. They know the poor and third world will suffer oceanic inundation first, and worst.

Having said that - I think you've let god and faith creep in to your thinking....and you've let it confuse you. My advice to you is simple; When you leave the mythical, unproven, and imaginary god out of the equation, then Jillette's and Payne's memes work. When you allow god in - then you get confused. With god - whether you are non-delusional or sociopathic - you still have all those questions to ponder. Without god....your home and your mind is your church (Paine) and god isn't your moral compass (Jilette) It strictly is up to you - if you're agnostic - to be morally correct, and to "be at peace".

Robecology replies on Sep 16, 2019:
Indeed...but in a sense....they gave us the recipes. Once you start making your own...it's so easy that it becomes an addictive habit. Start with available pre-made dough. Yeast rising doughs are my favorites. Roll thin...or if you're a "breadie" keep it thick. Square or round pan. Once you get a pizza paddle - you'll soon go "pan-free" and throw that baby straight in to the oven. Hot oven. At least 400º Some go hotter....but then you have to time it more carefully. You've set the stage....now go crazy...or follow the KISS rule....many overdo the sauces...go light with them. Sometimes pre-baking the dough first is a clever option (lightly...5-10 minutes in a hot oven). Then there's sauces...plain, tomato base to start. Any oil will do..but taste your oils...some are worth the high price! Oregano is an Italian "must". Get crazy and try a white sauce....a cream sauce...a tart sauce. A dark/hoisin/soy sauce. Then there's topings...just cheese is classic...pepperoni, meat, chicken, fish?....now you can get exotic....jerk chicken/pork/duck....eggs....fruit...bananas, pineapples, grapes. cranberries. Plain veggies -olivesm, peppers, onions (I like to pre-cook my onions) - but you'll be famous if you find a new veggie to throw on that "works". Personally I think you're "nuts" if you use nuts on a pizza....but I'm nutty anyway.... Then share, please? Take pics as you go.
Shall we tell them?...

Almost all crawl stroke...sometimes breast. ...Oh....and to add....my pool is heated to 86º so it's comfy...but still takes a bit of getting used to. I them mellow out in the hot tub.

The Lyrics to the Eagles song...brilliant; The Last Resort Eagles She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee, Just as her father came across the sea She heard about a place people were smilin', They spoke about the red man's way, how they loved the land And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide Down in the crowded bars out for a good time, Can't wait to tell you all what it's like up there And they called it paradise, I don't know why Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high Then the chilly winds blew down across the desert, Through the canyons of the coast to the Malibu Where the pretty people play hungry for power To light their neon way and give them things to do Some rich man came and raped the land, nobody caught 'em, Put up a bunch of ugly boxes and, Jesus, people bought 'em And they called it paradise, the place to be, They watched the hazy sun sinking in the sea You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina Just like the missionaries did so many years ago They even brought a neon sign 'Jesus is Coming', Brought the white man's burden down, brought the white man's reign Who will provide the grand design, what is yours and what is mine? 'Cause there is no more new frontier, we have got to make it here We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds In the name of destiny and in the name of God And you can see them there on Sunday morning Stand up and sing about what it's like up there They called it paradise, I don't know why You call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Glenn Frey / Don Henley The Last Resort lyrics © Warner Chappell Music, Inc

Sorry, @DonaldHRoberts -for you to assume that one culture, the "asians" in this case - will dominate the planet in the future is racist. As I've pointed out (below) and if you think about it....there's a growing number of Asian-anglo and Afro-asian and Afro-anglo intermarriages. In a few generations - perhaps 100 years or less - it's very likely there will be no "asians" nor anyone of any unusual sub-specific identifiable features (dark skin/light skin/lipid-protected eyelids, etc) we'll all be interbred. Now - will A communist/socialist leadership take over? Will a forceful government try to bridle in their people? That's possible...Fidel Castro, when asked why he favored communism, explained in simple words; "the People are not disciplined". If we continue to grow (158 more births than deaths, per minute, world-wide) then we'll either get our numbers controlled by wars, diseases, or the discipline of a strict 1-child-per-family communist manifesto. The choice is ours....soon we won't have a choice. http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/

Robecology replies on Sep 14, 2019:
@MojoDave Not to my knowledge, either....but when I heard about how our oceans filled up with a "rain of comets" - I did research. I discovered that to be named a "comet" that they have to be a coma (actually an atmosphere) surrounding a nucleus (up to 99% pure H2O) and a tail (the remains, or leftover "tailing" of the nucleus). That they are probably extra-solar (from outside our solar system). That they're mostly large chunks of mostly frozen H20 water (can also be frozen Ammonia and/or Methane). Asteroids are mostly rocky, and mostly formed within our solar system (no tails, no "coma" no eccentric orbits). It's logical that solar systems within our galactic neighborhood are likely to have formed, including planets with liquid oceans....and then died. When these systems, or their planets - died, or their oceanic planets exploded, large chunks of their ocean...now exposed to the bitter cold of space - were flash frozen - and set adrift. Some - in theory - found their way to us. We're not likely to be the first planet to have evolved life - nor are we the only one - nor the last.

@Besalbub Not a good answer. The fox population is then artificially stimulated to grow due to this slow, messy, but friendly bird - that does a lot of harm to natural bird wildlife. The foxes then grow in numbers..and then wild native birds are threatened as well. It's a species of national concern. Here's comments on it by the 2010 "Federal Register" "We received comments from States and individuals expressing concern over control of muscovy ducks in response to the 2006 proposal to add the species to the list of those protected under the MBTA (50 CFR 10.13). In general, States expressed concern over feral and free-ranging populations of muscovy ducks present as the result of human activity. For example, one State was concerned that protecting the species under the MBTA “would severely impede our efforts to manage the feral and free-ranging populations of domestic muscovy ducks.” Sorry I couldn't find more current articles; but if you do some research you'll see they're becoming a serious, spreading problem. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2010/03/01/2010-3284/migratory-bird-permits-control-of-muscovy-ducks-revisions-to-the-waterfowl-permit-exceptions-and

@Heraclitus Point taken. Energy, matter...it was all - according to Big Bang theorists - at one finite and yet minuscule point...and then exploded. Is it so far fetched to think that once the universe of stars run out of energy...or have all their energy turned to "matter" that that matter might have mass...and hence, gravity? Might we further theorize that if the energy of the Big Bang is spent and it's all "matter" - all mass - that gravity takes over....and returns the far-flung universe to a central point once again? And that matter; accelerating as it gathers...condenses in to a finite point - and by being compressed returns to its' energy state? ....and the Big Bang repeats itself? ...as I and others (see/read the link above) have proposed has happened many, many, many times? I think that's the most logical conclusion.

@Heraclitus It's too simplistic to think that "before time and the universe existed" all matter was at a finite point and then exploded. It's much more logical to allow that matter explodes, goes through stages, expands, dies (as all life appears to do) and then contracts (since the "Big Bang" energy has been used up, or converted to matter) into a ball...so dense...that it explodes again. In other words, I don't think the "universe is only a few dozen billion years old. Not only that; if Trump does resign (as Nixon did) it's very likely president Pence would "pardon" him and allow him to golf forever on our dime. NO!!! Just vote the whole lot out in 2020!
I made a favorite; Rolled lasagna! This time it has no meat; only cheese and egg whites.
AmelieMatisse comments on Sep 9, 2019:
I have to make this one. I'm thinking you could also use these for appetizers
Robecology replies on Sep 9, 2019:
Each roll, with stuffing, EVOO and sauce, comes to around 450-500 calories...they'd be huge appetizers....but I like them because just one fills me fairly comfortably; there's 6 meals in that dish! Thanks for your support!

How do you like the everglades? We've used the Seminole fire in the swamp for a long time, but they discontinued the spicy one so we're seeking a replacement. Your rollups look great!! I'm planning on making a low carb version soon, using eggplant strips as the noodle.
Robecology replies on Sep 9, 2019:
Just tasting it now; it's a bit dry; so I had to spoon some sauce over it...but man I love this dish! And it allows me to have one portion - filling but not stuffing - so I'm hungry by bedtime and can lose a little weight. There's a low sugar Ricotta; or you could sub-in cottage cheese. There's also low carb/high protein lasagna noodles to make this a protein dense/low carb meal. Remember; most of the calories from eggs come from the yolks...it pays to separate them out IMO....you still get the binding action of the whites without the calories. Oh...and to answer your question about Everglades seasoning....I'm a cheapskate with all seasonings....except my Everglades. It just seems to be a perfect balance. I've never tried the Seminole Fire in the Swamp....I might have to check that out!
Risk rescuers' lives for people who refused mandatory evacuation?
Robecology comments on Sep 8, 2019:
@LiterateHiker; You call them stubborn. I call them desperate. 90% of those who live dangerously close to the natural elements do so because they must stay there. They have no choice. It's their livelihood to "live near/on the water's edge". the other 10% Live there because it's ...
Robecology replies on Sep 9, 2019:
@MoonTigerll Good info; thanks for the research; but we all face some form of natural disaster or another. You call me "desperate"? You're "ASSuming rather rudely... You're in central Ohio...pretty stable - and boring....there; are you "desperate" to stay there? I stayed there shortly to attend a summer session for the NSF on population (U. of Cinci). I do concur about your comments on greed. It's a sickness....I blogged about it years ago as being the "Perfect addiction"... http://robecology.blogspot.com/2016/12/greed-perfect-addiction-and-one-factor.html?q=ffc There's several reasons why I chose to retire here (on the beach in Ft. Pierce); 1. This building is built well....great shutters, solidly built (see image). 2. I'm well insured. A storm can trash the entire contents and I can rebuild/replace for under $100k. 3. Great view, great privacy, Great access to a natural wonder - the ocean! 4. I have decent alternatives to stay elsewhere in the event of a storm. 5. Ft. Pierce beaches are 16 feet above mean high tide; higher than most beaches in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm beach. On top of that our community build a several mile long, 15 foot high sand dune - well vegetated.(see images). 6. I lived through Andrew in '92...went outside at 3 AM to see the 5 mile high inside wall illuminated by the moon...will never forget that image in my head. 7.I live here because I chose to...not because I have to.

Homes on Outer Banks should be bulldozed and laws enacted not to replace them. Robecology replies on Sep 8, 2019:
@MoonTigerII - you're essentially reiterating my point. ...but there's no logic in the 'bulldozer" strategy. That will never happen. As I said..90% must live dangerously close to the water...it's their livlihood. Actually; I did more research; The Outer banks, where most of these "stubborn" folk live that you want to plow under, have a very low COL...and homes on the Outer banks are among the cheapest in the nation. The folks who live there are also very much there because that's the income life they chose - or was handed down to them. https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/population.html

Robecology replies on Sep 8, 2019:
Please don't be so naive as to assume we can get the right to simply "plow under" homes that exist on beaches. The wealthiest own the most deluxe waterfront homes...and they're actually betting (via paying insurance) that a storm DOES take out their property...so they can rebuild bigger, stronger, and higher above sea level.

@WilliamCharles I just watched an incredible story a obout how military transport planes were caught being detoured to Trump properties to fuel their planes....in effect supporting the airport that services Trump resorts...which had been going down the tubes. 11 million $$ of our taxpayer money to pay for fueling military transport planes at the whim of Trump. Then there's the huge tax breaks to fossil fuels arranged by Republicans. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-doonbeg-video_n_5cfa7f93e4b0c7edd0b661a5 Then there's the tax subsidies to coal and oil that far outstrips the subsidies to alternative energy. https://www.vox.com/2019/5/17/18624740/fossil-fuel-subsidies-climate-imf Don't tell me about Democrats and Dirty money. When I discover dirty money it's almost exclusively Republican.

Robecology replies on Sep 6, 2019:
@Theresa_N Exactly my problem. And since I love the flavor more than the buzz; I searched for a decent decaf coffee to blend with a decent caffeinated blend...so I can drink 8 "cups" (36-40 oz) of coffee throughout the AM and early PM without the tremors and anxiousness.
There is a difference.
