Seems like I read a study somewhere that men in particular try to date “out of their league” (whatever that means) when it come to online dating.

@daylily I concur...and it's the liars that we have to suppress and re-train. Lying might "get you a bite" but a fancy "above your league" fish won't stay hooked too long....and then us liars have to face the truth. That's why I've encouraged picture posting and a detailed bio to all "daters". We've heard a "pic is worth a thousand words"... ...so the honest ones post the most pics. Simple.

it's easy for the plutocrats who own the MSM to keep the ignorant working class scared of socialism by citing venezeula (which has been punished by US sanctions). by the time the working-class finally figure why they keep falling behind financially it'll be way too late.

Bingo. If we don't adapt to a system that limits the uber rich and raises the poorest out of poverty - we might go extinct. I concur. We need Democratic (modern) not autocratic (Russian) or demagogic (Chinese) socialism...but democratic socialism. If we pay taxes...and the taxes are used to buy things, aren't we, the taxpayers the owners? It's social-ism. You and I "own" the state and national parks. But we pay in to a system that in turn disperses our wealth to maintain things. Socialism. plain and simple. 200 years ago there wasn't enough "society" to have socialism. So it's a new concept. But look at those who've gotten the wealthiest. How did they get there? ...capitalism. Capitalism can work within a socialist society. Will us going to free health care, free college, and free social services, at a cost of higher taxes - make us better or worse? The big question that those who fear socialism have to ask is - will it stop capitalism? Of course it won't. It will take the edge off exploitation. It will slow down global warming and bankruptcies from education and health care debt. . It will raise the poor out of their holes. It's even the "moral" and dare I say it...Christian thing to do. Straight socialism will fail. It has to be of the democratic variety to survive.
Robecology replies on Jul 31, 2019:
Socialism is new....100 years ago we had around 2 billion people on the planet, Now we're approaching 8 billion...4 times more people. So we need more social "organization. We've discovered too many loopholes that allow the greedy to prosper while the masses suffer. And of course it must be "democratic"...we've seen alleged democratic socialist systems evolve in to autocratic and dictatorial socialism....so yes...we need to use society (socialism) to regulate the leaders who organize our social service systems; public schools, military, and taxation...all socialist processes.

Dietl comments on Jul 31, 2019:
I think the comments so far are prove that socialism is not easy to define.
Robecology replies on Jul 31, 2019:
It's easy to define; but it's obviously been abused. In terms of our civilization...it's a relatively new thing..... But it is simple; it's what it's called...social - ism. Using society to control and regulate things as a collective thing, rather than an individual or business decision. We've seen how greed and profiteering has made businesses do things that make many in society benefit but few who profit from the business....we've seen the need to regulate and control this greed. That's socialism. We've also seen how government leaders have taken advantage of the programs of socialism. But again...we're learning. I honestly think we're close to getting it right. We know we have to clean up our environment using socialist rules. Letting private companies clean things up hasn't worked - and has lead us to almost runaway global warming. Socialism can end this. We know we have to improve our health care. Letting private companies give us health care has driven health care costs through the roof...and have literally stopped our average life span growth. We need socialist health care system to let us continue to improve our health. In the 1950's we used our 100% socialist education system both elementary, secondary, and even many colleges to become #1 in world learning. Since that time...as private and religious-controlled schools have grown, our ranking in world education has dropped precipitously. With free college (paid for by the socialist process of taxing the wealthy) we would re-claim our ranking in education. I hope we get over the fog and stigma of socialism. I hope my explanations have helped you.

Robecology replies on Jul 31, 2019:
@daylily Point taken. There is obviously no clear end to "dating"...yet I don't want to buy in to that accusation that most single seniors are living lives of quiet frustration; so I resign myself to stop pursuing dating...and continue to enjoy being alone....and in love with what I do and how I live. Would I be delighted to meet a woman who was, as the OP suggested, "slightly out of my league"? Of course! But I refuse to fall in to that category of a quietly frustrated senior who "tolerates" living alone. I've pretty much given up the "pursuit" and just put myself out there (only on here...no "dating" sites...and yes....I'm a home-body most, if not all weekends). I'm working on enjoying my diet, my level of cleanliness, my level of organization. The fitness that suits me. And I stand by what I said, above; if I meet a woman who's "slightly out of my league" I'll wear my best shirts, shine my shoes, and try to impress her... Because, in my heart, and in my mind, I haven't given up "searching for someone who's a bit out of our league". In the meantime... I'm working on continuing to fall in love....with me!!

Robecology replies on Jul 30, 2019:
@StarvingArtist Good questions; Basically the reason Fossil fuels are totally un-renewable is that we change them when we use them...we "oxidize" or "burn' them, changing them in to completely different - and often toxic - substances. Not so with battery ingredients. We "drain" them - but we recharge them....sometimes for thousands of cycles. First let me dispel a myth; a Lithium battery is not mostly lithium. It's made of carbon, silicon (sand is silicon dioxide) and other rather common ingredients. ...and they're not "burned" or altered significantly in their production of electricity. That's why they are rechargeable. You're probably using one now in your laptop of phone to read this. The battery literally recycles every time you plug it in for a charge. Now the charging....like our bodies...ages - becomes less "efficient. It happened to my 2013 Tesla. When it was new, it charged to 270. When I traded it in, it had lost 10%of its' charging capacity For the phones it's a 2-4 year life. For Tesla cars it's guaranteed for 8 years...after which you might have to replace it. But what happens to the old ones? Yep; they are broken down, separated in to component compounds, and recycled. That's why you should never throw even regular batteries "away"...they will only make landfills places to mine in future generations...because the batteries will still retain their basic elements. So basically; all batteries are never really broken down to to unusable forms. All batteries...even the non-chargeable ones...can be recycled. Not necessarily in their original form....but their ingredients can be recycled....nearly all of it. Here's the tech version of what I just said; https://waste-management-world.com/a/in-depth-lithium-battery-recycling-the-clean-energy-clean-up

LOL...solution? Buy an EV....plug in charge at home or at a Supercharger....the fee for the "juice" is paid for on line...in the privacy of your car...and it's a third the price of gas....
Robecology replies on Jul 23, 2019:
@MojoDave, @synergy Good question! And not easy to calculate; but let me explain it this way. Tesla has bumped up prices at US states, with some rising as much as 100 percent. As of this week (beginning March 11), prices have risen (this is from an article, below). California prices grew by 30 percent from $0.20 to $0.26 and New York costs jumped by $0.05 to $0.24. Oregon was hit with one of the steepest rises—$0.12 to $0.24. Illinois drivers will now pay $0.24 instead of $0.15. All prices are per kWh. So let's take an average of $0.20 cents per KWH to charge; 90% charge at home (cheaper) 10% charge mainly/mostly at Superchargers (higher). My Tesla's a 100 (KWH) S. That means it will hold 100 KwH's of charge of you charge it to full capacity. If you travel at 65-70 MPH....you get a range of 335 miles. So that 3.35 miles costs an average of $0.20cents. Thus if you multiply both these #'s by 10, you go 33.5 miles, and you'll pay an average of $2.00 dollars What gas powered car gets 33 miles on $2 bucks worth of gas? Very few; if any. So....long story short; EV's are much cheaper to run (relevant to the cost of fossil fuel energy). The source of electricity is a factor in pollution; mine is "nuclear" powered. 23% of America is still "coal" powered....but remember - power plants have a lot more efficient pollution controls than those on a typical car....so even if your car is "coal" powered, it's almost twice as efficient as a gasoline powered car. So in general, EV's are far less polluting than Gasoline counterparts. Here's a great video I often share that explains some of the reasons why in 10 years, fossil fuel cars will be almost gone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7Jg1IJ68_g and here's he source of EV cost to power https://www.newsweek.com/tesla-hikes-supercharger-prices-how-much-each-state-will-cost-840143

I am semi-retired and love to travel but I am tired of traveling alone.

CouchSurfing.com. You do not have to host. There are groups for all age groups and I often see people posting for travel partners. It is world wide.

The video is "unavailable"...but your point is well taken. Don't let the sugar daddy - nor the sugar baby - have an unfair advantage. The trick - for sugar daddy or sugar baby...is to not get overwhelmed with the situation. Sit down, get out pen/pencil and paper...come to an agreement ...
Robecology replies on Jul 18, 2019:
@Boomtarat03 And I concur with you on those terms...kind of prejudicial. It's simply older men younger women.

I think you've shared your particulars before; that you've lost a lot of weight, but have a lot to go. @EdEarl "Dragon quest" might be a little exaggerated; but I do recall you mentioning losing many pounds...that's no small task. Again, kudos. Give yourself some credit.

Futurists like me are scientists. We have to be science-minded to plan for the future. The problem is that Greed is a welcomed and nurtured strategy in America (and most of the "free" world). ...and greed is the antithesis of science. It's adopted by all the #religulous, the climate change ...

@Cutiebeauty I was surprised by the 2016 vote. I thought there were more "liberated" women and liberal-thinking men in America. I was dead wrong. I hope you're right - I hope I'm wrong....about the majority being "not greedy" and being willing and able to vote. We'll see.

Robecology replies on Jul 18, 2019:
@MissKathleen I think you missed her point. Many nations have populations that are more - or less tolerant to social injustice...it's not just "any country". Here's a cool map that explains tolerance to one issue (no...I'm not gay...but when I searched "tolerance to social issues, by nation" I came up with this map) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2013/06/05/a-revealing-map-of-the-countries-that-are-most-and-least-tolerant-of-homosexuality/?utm_term=.6549c01e7b11

@Mooolah I don't feel pride in hostility....as a teacher I feel like I failed to reach them....so no pride, just disappointment...along with a resolution to awaken the conservatives who will listen. I bike 4-6 miles a day, for 1/2 hour to an hour. My average speed is 8 MPH. On a good day I'll get 9 MPH average. I should call me club the Sloth biking club.

@EyesThatSmile I found that biking is a quick and easy way to get a good workout. Once you have a routine, if you miss a day you "feel it"....so push yourself to get back in to it...your body witll thank you....

Robecology replies on Jul 17, 2019:
@EyesThatSmile So instead of an 18 gear bike you buy a 3 or 6 speed. In this heat I find biking for just a half an hour leaves me sweaty and weak. I cover 4 or 5 miles ( 8 or 9 MPH) and it's a good, invigorating workout for me. There's plenty of folk who have bikes and don't use them; in fact just talking about it prompted me to post on FB for a biking club here where I live; I'll keep you posted on responses!
My kind of team!
