@GuyKeith Indeed; The very porous Limestone in Miami and South Florida (Oolitic, to be specific) lets water flow right through it. The only solution for Miami for the next few decades is a Venice-like approach...more canals, more buidings and driveways raised or abandoned....By 2100 the levels are suspected to make even "the "gondola" approach moot... I taught Geology and Earth Science for decades in Homestead, Florida. Robecology replies on Jul 14, 2019:
Wow....can't "edit" replies from May....so here's an update; Still "before God" in all three....#religulous.... Original "Florence Nightingale Pledge" I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practise my profession faithfully. I shall abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and shall not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I shall do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. I shall be loyal to my work and devoted towards the welfare of those committed to my care. 1935 revised version (note that the last phrase was changed) I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practise my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I aid the physician in his work, and as a missioner of health, I will dedicate myself to devoted service for human welfare. "Practical Nurse Pledge", a modern version based on the "Nightingale Pledge" (again, the last phrase was revised...but "the #religulous "before God" is still in there). The "devotion to the physician" has been removed. Before God and those assembled here, I solemnly pledge; To adhere to the code of ethics of the nursing profession; To co-operate faithfully with the other members of the nursing team and to carryout [sic] faithfully and to the best of my ability the instructions of the physician or the nurse who may be assigned to supervise my work; I will not do anything evil or malicious and I will not knowingly give any harmful drug or assist in malpractice. I will not reveal any confidential information that may come to my knowledge in the course of my work. And I pledge myself to do all in my power to raise the standards and prestige of the practical nursing; May my life be devoted to service and to the high ideals of the nursing profession. from; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightingale_Pledge

@MojoDave and @Heathenman Na...not in our lifetimes...but a century or more from now....maybe. It won't be a sudden thing....it'll be a gradual one. There's too many who are well adapted to "swamp" living...and you forget the general adaptability of the species. That's the problem with climate change/global warming....there's not enough shock and awe to prompt enough to take action. The good news is that Alt.energy and EV's are advancing at an exponential rate. Fossil fuels are declining - albeit slowly. The bad news is that the richest in America...and historically....got rich off of taking advantage of the FF industry. Before that it was the Rail people who got rich first. Before that it was the cannon and weapons makers who ended up with the absurd wealth. The rich will lie, minimize, distract, divert, and delay the change so they can garner their wealth. I leave you with two pieces of good news; 1. We could see a rapid transformation in the auto industry; similar to portable phones and computers. That could happen very rapidly. The parody often calls for dihydrogen monoxide to be banned, regulated, or labeled as dangerous. It demonstrates how a lack of scientific literacy and an exaggerated analysis can lead to misplaced fears.]

@darthfaja Sorry; they won't let me read until I pay for subscription. Perhaps you can copy and paste it? I got this from the NCA; Most home storage containers still let in small amounts of oxygen, which is why food stored a long time in the freezer can suffer freezer burn. Therefore, if you do refrigerate or freeze your beans, be sure to use a truly airtight container. If you choose to freeze your coffee, quickly remove as much as you need for no more than a week at a time, and return the rest to the freezer before any condensation forms on the frozen coffee. Freezing your beans does not not change the basic brewing process. http://www.ncausa.org/about-coffee/how-to-store-coffee

They have several homes...including at least one on the seashore...but they're all well insured (and they own and profit from the insurance co.'s as well). They're actually betting that a storm DOES take out their property; so they can rebuild stronger, bigger, and higher above sea level, of course. (They wait out repairs in one of their many other homes). So no...they think their wealth will shield them from the impending disasters ...and to a great extent they're right. The U.S. and Canada are not only NOT declining, but because we consume so much more per person (per capita) we are 5% of the world's population, growing slowly (at 0.91%) yet we consume 25% of its' resources. Yes; one U.S. citizen eats, and uses up the equivalent of 5 humans on this planet. It is well known that Americans consume far more natural resources and live much less sustainably than people from any other large country of the world. “A child born in the United States will create thirteen times as much ecological damage over the course of his or her lifetime than a child born in Brazil,” reports the Sierra Club’s Dave Tilford, adding that the average American will drain as many resources as 35 natives of India and consume 53 times more goods and services than someone from China. Obesity is a complex, and very deep-seeded issue. As I said above; it's the result of a food addiction started before we could walk and talk. Empathy is useful here...random harsh comments are hurtful.

I understand your frustration. As a short man who's often attracted to voluptuous women...it's been a problem for me. And we men are in love with curvy...and even "voluptuous"...but we fear/loathe "obesity". I've seen this happen to at least 2 partners. They go from - as you suggested ...
Robecology replies on Jul 4, 2019:
@Veteran229 OK....but it's clearly an issue. We need to encourage an attack on their situation...not an attack on their avoidance of the issues. Of course they don't want to do selfies...they're embarrassed and frustrated by how they look. Empathize with the obese; they're suffering with an addiction started before they could walk and talk...and not with bad intention...by well-intended parents who thought "spoiling" a child was impossible...
You know, I did not blame ALL men for what went wrong in my marriage.
Robecology comments on Jul 3, 2019:
Woa; gross generalization. Hate comes when love fails. Men don't want to be hated any more than women do....let's work on our equality issues, please? I take a 50-50 approach to failed relationships....I had my issues....they had theres....a famous line in "Cool Hand Luke" sticks in my ...
Robecology replies on Jul 4, 2019:
@DAB456 Indeed....a good, more positive response. If you think others hate you will end up being bitter and hateful.... So do try to see the glass half full. I recommend you read any of Ken Keyes Jr.'s books on relationships. He's got lots of tricks for being positive in this negative world... Here's a nice website showing some of Ken's quotes (he's now deceased) https://www.azquotes.com/author/17975-Ken_Keyes_Jr
Call me crazy; but I don't think we can afford a 92 million dollar salute to a draft dodger.

Trump claiming he has a "good relationship" with a known mass murderer is pathological.
Jamesd comments on Jul 4, 2019:
Do the rules in this group prohibit having a reasonable discussion about Trump? If so, I should probably move on. I don't like Trump and wouldn't trust him around my daughter. However, he has done some good things as President. He has played little Kim like a 12 string guitar. LIttle Kim is a child....
Robecology replies on Jul 4, 2019:
@Jamesd; I sort of agree with you... But I don't see Trump as having "done some good things as President". But I applaud him for trying to buddy-up to the mass-murderer/loose-nut on the world stage. I don't see Trump playing KJU...but it's pretty clear KJU is playing Trump. A little history; Japan lost the war to us...but because they (and HiroHito) used the humble victim approach...they ended up dominating the world with cars and electronics. We set them up to be the dominant world player in tech and small cars. I think KJU is playing the same card...without losing a battle....or a life. Nope...don't see Trump as having done anything more than keep KJU from firing rockets at the world....and I think his little launches was just an attention getter...and he won the attention he wanted...and the aid.... I'll give DJT that...except he did "play patsy" more than play KJU like a guitar.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surrender_of_Japan
This is the real story.

Cute "meme" but far from true; https://www.zmescience.com/science/oceanography/fish-stocks-ocean-20012016/ "The ocean is resilient but there is a limit." The report said populations of fish, marine mammals, birds and reptiles had fallen 49 percent between 1970 and 2012. For fish alone, the ...
Robecology replies on Jul 3, 2019:
@WonderWartHog99 Are you suggesting that international ocean research isn't accurate? That seafood fish stocks are not declining? I hope not...the numbers - the data - is clear. We're growing by 227,000 more births, than deaths per day. That's 158 more per minute. A million more every 5 days. A million more mouths to feed every 5 days. http://www.poodwaddle.com And yes...there IS "telling evidence" that all food fish are drastically, severely declining in population. Please; click on the link in the OP above and read it.
Now there is a religion.

Robecology replies on Jul 3, 2019:
@Boomtarat03: I guess if the group was called "young and sexy" I'd feel differently...but the name of the group -"classy-sexy" defines a more mature woman, IMO. You're an "8" and you like to post young sexy women...perhaps you should start your own group? This woman, above, looks child-like in both face and figure....so I simply said, "kiddy porn"... No need to get your knickers in a twist...it's just my opinion.
Gotta love Maddow; she starts with background info (how Penicillin got off the ground) and goes from...

Robecology replies on Jul 3, 2019:
@gater I think she's chronically accurate. I don't sense "spin" from her more than others...She's constantly presenting evidence and documents to back up her comments. I'm guessing you're a conservative who supports Trump? I found a great cartoon for you; Talk about "spin".... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW9R6jgE7SQ

@Cutiebeauty The meme is great...your comment "men can't cook" made me reply "don't get me started" - with a link sharing that most chefs are men. Again....the meme is funny - the "men can't cook" isn't. You think it is....oh, well....sad/sorry for you.
