Robecology comments on May 25, 2019:
Thanks for the positive news. Keep growing toward a better self-appreciation, please? and.... Shame on anyone who doesn't know why this weekend was named "Memorial day". Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2019 occurs on Monday, May 27. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials.

@Sputnik You're from a country that's doing so well. So much data shows how the Swiss avoid conflict, create wealth, and do so much better than the rest of the world. We here in America who align ourselves with science, wisdom, and free-thinking would welcome ideas that would improve our health care and education without, as you say, the "organized crime" impression you seem to have of socialism. For us, here in America; it seems that the opposite is true; the free reign of capitalism allows Fascism...or a corporate greed that entrenches itself in our government. Many want that "gangster" mentality of Free enterprise - and thus unbridled greed - and a trend toward fascism - gone in America. How would you suggest we improve our health care and higher education system, if not to go to a more socialist (tax paid benefits) system? The For-profit-capitalist system seems to fit a gangster mentality far better.

Dad was a great guy. He inspired me to love swimming. He told me he smoked dope as a soldier in the Panama canal zone in the 1940's and I can still recall sharing a J with him in the backyard (so mom wouldn't find out). I still have his swimming medals he earned. He was a 9 to 5 guy....often absent - often too tired to do things...but overall, a good man. He died, too young, at age 68....of stomach/gut cancer. I've already had surgery yea, it runs in the family.
Trust me, I'm not happy about it either!

More stats; 158 more births, than deaths, per minute world-wide. Today 384,701 people will be born and 156,936 people will die, resulting in a net gain of 227,765 humans (give or take a few thousand). This year 140 million babies will be born and 57 million people will die. Net gain, 83 million. Nearly half of these deaths will be attributed to heart disease or some form of cancer. If you think that sounds depressing consider that 13 million hectares of forest will be lost this year. All resource numbers; food, space per person, fresh water, fresh air per person...declining.
The real solution

Reminds me of an early joke I heard by Red Foxx; "Rape is impossible; Women can run faster with their dress up than men with their pants down".... But this did get me thinking...These politicians seem so false, fake with their moral pleas, while extolling large families and unplanned children within their own social group. So I assume that the wives of these men so tolerant as to accept sex and pregnancy, whether they're ready for it or not? Apparently, so. And a second thought; Do these politicians really think that the poor and ignorant should also be deprived of family planning tools? They also seem to oppose "planned parenthood" it a punishment ethic that they seek for the poor and minorities?

Robecology comments on May 24, 2019:
The most "unscientific" comment is the last one; "No one wants to do any research - they just want to be right"... Good scientists admire, respect - and often appreciate being proven wrong. Unfortunately, many scientists are hounded by publicists...who want to get "headline news"- so they will "sensationalize" or "glorify" a finding to catch readers and gain a following...then get hired for better salaries. So let's be fair; good scientists expect to be proven wrong. It's the publicists who give people like DJT the right to say "fake news"...and sometimes be right! The best scientists publish their findings in prominent journals, welcome peer review and re-study, and will counter any exaggerated claims made from their findings politely, professionally, and at high levels of debate. A scientist isn't a paid position; it's being a super-critical thinker, tester, and writer. Since science is taking a back seat to this present political situation in America, scientists need to step up their game so interpretations - like the one made in the meme - are well challenged. if we don't demand better publicized scientific research - we're risking losing our species survival on the planet...and perhaps taking many other species with us.

Robecology comments on May 24, 2019:
Native fire ants? I thought they were a recent invasive? I also found this; In 1949 fire ants were mostly situated in a roughly 50-mile-wide radius around Mobile and in a few spots in central Alabama and Mississippi. But as Americans moved to the suburbs during the 1950s, desirous of white picket fences, front lawns, and ornamental shrubs, the nursery trade boomed. Soil, plants, and pots were shipped across states and counties. Hidden in the dirt caked on a bulldozer, in the root ball of a nursery plant, or in the bed of a pickup truck, a newly mated queen can travel hundreds of miles. Thanks to our horticultural aspirations, by 1957 S. invicta were in every Southern state except Kentucky and the Virginias.

It's more like; I'm horny! I'm horny! I'm horny! or Come find me! Come find me! or This is my territory! This is my territory! Why are some bird sounds referred to as songs and others as calls? Calls tend to be shorter, less rhythmic sounds used to communicate a nearby threat or an individual's location. Bird Song - Bird Academy - All About Birds

The pageantry and formal performances of the #Religulous is indeed impressive. Their art work and their building are also impressive. ...and I get it. Religion was needed for centuries due to the relatively naive, uneducated masses. It helped them. It calmed them. It made them cooperative. But it was obviously abused by many. Many of us are here because we saw the hypocrisy of religion early in our lives. We saw the falsehoods. The myths became as unbelievable as visualizing Santa coming down a chimney. So, yes, the pageantry is impressive; but no; I wouldn't miss it if it were removed from my life. Since I haven't been in a church or temple, or Mosque in's a moot point.

It's pricey; but if your doc says you have a high LDL count, using Coconut oil might mean a few years longevity....kind of a diet insurance policy... "The medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) in coconut oil can increase how many calories you burn compared to the same amount of calories from longer chain fats (4Trusted Source). One study found that 15-30 grams of MCTs per day increased 24 hour energy expenditure by 5%, totalling about 120 calories per day (5Trusted Source)." Cholesterol is the main lipid. It is made up of different parts such as: LDL cholesterol, or “bad” cholesterol, is the main lipid that causes damaging buildup and blockage in your arteries. HDL cholesterol is actually a “good” type of cholesterol that helps to prevent cholesterol from building up in your arteries. Triglyceride is another lipid that may increase your risk for heart disease.

#1. Drop the term 'loser" . You're alive. You're on a computer or phone. That's a 1 out of 10 humans on the planet privilege right there. #2.Venting is good; but negative venting is not so good. Time to vent about what's right in your life. 10 fingers? 10 toes? that's a start. Write it in a note to yourself, or make it public...but acknowledge what's right in your life and you'll feel better. #3. Read this; It's by the renowned Atheist/Scientist Richard Dawkins.

Robecology comments on May 21, 2019:
I think some advanced species express guilt...I know dogs show it...(cats? Forgetaboutit!) But guilt was there long before the #religulous laid their "guilt-trip" morality on us. Burning bush...I'd love to have been there when the "burning bush" told Moses to "make those (moral) tablets"...

....and if you turn the pic upside down you see another gem of advice; "This alarm will not operate without power" I had to pay a fine and get a new condo fire extinguisher cap installed because my painter didn't notice the "do not paint on this cap" sign....
"Maybe You Really Can Use Black Holes to Travel the Universe........................ 1/25/2019 ...
Robecology comments on May 21, 2019:
The nearest black hole is 3000 light years away. The center of our galaxy is 50,000 light years away. I hate this talk of the possibilty of using black holes for travel. The nearest star is 4.5 light years away. If we could travel 1/1000th the speed of light...186 miles per would still take 4,500 years to reach that star. So far, the fastest we've achieved in human space flight was 6.88 miles per second. So we're not even close to achieving any decent speed to go outside our solar system. Please don't let the sensationalist hype of any kind of space travel grab you. Even If I could figure out a way to go the speed of light...I wouldn't want to spend 4.5 years in a space ship to visit another star...even if it was proven that star had a twin earth....would you? Global sea levels may rise much faster than predicted, study finds []
Robecology comments on May 21, 2019:
This is the most contentious part of Global warming. So many don't see "sea level rise" as a threat. Only scientists, community demographers (planners) and those who have property close to the sea (as I do for all three) see this issue as important. Tides and waves makes it difficult to notice sea level rise. It only rears its' ugly head during major storms, When extreme low pressure inside hurricanes lifts the eye ocean levels dozens of feet...thrusting seas deep inland We will pay for our indifference. The solution will come when a Saffir-Simpson 5 comes ashore on the U.S. east coast; close to D.C. or NYC. Then, when the visuals will be stunning (buildings with all glass knocked out...major roads flooded, some skyscrapers tilted or taken down) we will see legislation to curb CO2/fossil fuel use. I'm afraid to wish for something like this....because I can see the sea from my home...
Good morning from Costa Rica. Today I’ll be visiting the Arenal volcano and Tabacon Hot Springs....
Robecology comments on May 21, 2019: went to Arenal. Now I have to this a tour? If so...I think I need to know the contact info for the group. You may recall I commented earlier that I loved C.R...I just made the awful mistake of renting a car. the roads were awful...and I got stopped and frisked by cops...twice. (about 7-8 years ago). I Loved Arenal, and the hot springs there were a cut above anything I've ever experienced...please. email me the tour people names and/or phone/email? thanks.
