Knives are good and getting better and cheaper all the time. Appliances are slowly improving. Microwaves are faster and cheaper than ever. TV''s are declining in price while improving in quality. The one area where there's a lot of "gas-lighting" is the I.C.E.car.(internal combustion engine). In the 50's and 60's they were far simpler...I changed the piston bearings on one. Now the tech people have made them too dependent on tech hookups for analysis. Enter the EV (Electric vehicle). Far simpler. 90% fewer moving parts...and Tesla just reduced the wiring inside them from miles to meters in length. I'm not saying they're easier to work on by us ordinary folk; they still need tech connections...the point is they'll need far less maintenance once the bugs are removed. It's so misunderstood because the #religulous of the world look at science as, if not evil, at least their nemesis. Science and agnosticism go hand in hand. To "want to know" or to claim to be "unknowing" or to "need proof" labels you as the religious equivalent of the famous biblical "doubting Thomas". Science is in a very critical race against religion. (see graph, below) The very existence of humanity is at stake. Anyone who likes "flaming" or "nuclear" or "absurdly" hot food....I just feel sorry for them. Hot foods evolved in tropical regions when meat became a common food element - before refrigeration. Hence the hot spices took away the horrible decay/rotting flavor of the meats. It was a painful way to get the meat in to your gut....but it worked...and the taste for "heat" evolved. Governments are about "growth". No governments have recognized the importance of "sustainability" or leveling off - simply because that means less profits and wealth for fewer people. All governments give tax discounts for larger families. This welcomes growth. Most governments subsidize and support fossil fuel R & D...this prolongs and intensifies global warming/climate change - but they don't care. They want their money. The officials of government feel the poor and ignorant should be the victims of climate change, species and habitat loss, rising seas, and intensifying diseases. They assume that the greedy/wealthy will have access to better food, housing, tools, and careers - it's the modern version of survival of the fittest. The fittest are - in their eyes - the greediest. They - the wealthy who are also in positions of governance - see little value in family planning. They want and expect sudden attrition by storms, pestilence, etc. That's why the #religulous, the Republicans and conservatives - fight family planning, and promote private schools. They welcome the tax loopholes. So...sadly....I concur; we are "still headed in this direction". post edit; I read what I wrote; and I my discussion and conclusions are rather somber. I am, however - an optimist. I suspect (and strongly hope) that this November is the beginning of the end of greedy, wealth-oriented, growth oriented governments. I think that once we've been through a hurricane season - and have a scary big one hit a major metro area - that the powers that be will see the negative effects of welcoming growth. When I catch a good "flick" (movie, video...not even sure what they're called these days) then I will naturally stay up late. It happened recently when I saw that HBO was sharing "RocketMan" for free...I've watched it a couple of times...the cockney-british accents and fast talking makes me miss what's being said...but the music and acting on this one has been exciting. @FlippantLlama. Good point about the goggles needed. What I'm reading is that the masks are better for potential carriers than potential victims; better to prevent spread then to resist it....so if you aren't ill, and haven't tested positive for carrying COVID 19 then you're wiser NOT wearing a mask...BUT using precautions about where you go, how you sanitize, etc. https://youtu.be/Ded_AxFfJoQ
