They - the wealthy who are also in positions of governance - see little value in family planning. They want and expect sudden attrition by storms, pestilence, etc. That's why the #religulous, the Republicans and conservatives - fight family planning, and promote private schools. They welcome the tax loopholes. So...sadly....I concur; we are "still headed in this direction". post edit; I read what I wrote; and I my discussion and conclusions are rather somber. I am, however - an optimist. I suspect (and strongly hope) that this November is the beginning of the end of greedy, wealth-oriented, growth oriented governments. That's a "Muscovy" duck....imported for its' taste and large eggs...but it is considered an invasive pest in many locations. It's spreading fast. It's aggressive toward shy natives...and many natives (coots, egrets, wood ducks, herons here in Florida) numbers are being reduced fast as these aggressive birds take over their habitat. They are friendly to humans, and will almost hand feed. But beware their friendly nature. It is a prime carrier of "swimmer's itch" or Psittacosis. Please; #1 do not feed them. They will readily befriend you and follow you home. #2. Wipe the soles of your shoes well after visiting them...they likely carry many bacteria including Psittacosis spores. Babies have been known to get this infrection toddling around homes with unclean floors and visitors to this duck's habitat. #3. If you domesticate them keep them penned in. Their eggs are nutritious and the meat is said to be good (I haven't tried either). They do fly for short distances; so keep a lid on that pen, please. Wow; I saw that picture at the restaurant just below that magnificent spring in Yellowstone...and had no idea of its' significance - the only African American group....the only soldiers given bikes to test them and the bike's endurance....wow!

Ideally, true. In reality; we are only fair guardians of the stablity of our fellow creatures. The wealthier we become, the less we care about the "other" creatures...plants, animals, even the simple lives of the organisms that change our CO2 to Oxygen - not plants... phytoplankton.
