This is a tough one. I know my/our metabolism slows as we age...and the number of food choices continue to grow - so we civilized folk will gain weight with age. A few months ago; BK only had the "Impossible" burger (VERY good meat imitation) for a rediculous price - now's it's down to very competitive - for example. When you're up before dawn for 45 years (of teaching) you either become a "morning" person or you end up finding another career that doesn't require you to be at work at 7 AM or so. That's the plight of most schools...start early....end early. Not your "9 to 5" schedule at all. So 8 years after I had retired (in 2012) I'm still an up before dawn person.

Being active has its' value. The most common factor that seems to exist with aging is slowing down. We tire sooner, easier, faster. Yet we also complain if we put on weight. I love my "volunteering" for the simple reason it prolongs my life. I can eat the same as a usual day and lose weight....or at least not gain it. I sleep better. I feel a thorough "tiredness" after doing something active, vs not feeling that "exhausted" feeling on an inactive day. So I get the message. And I hope my fellow agnostics do to. Thanks for sharing this, @Fernapple!

I was born and raised close to "the beach" in New York state, USA......1st 3 years in Coney Island (south Brooklyn, NYC) then only 10 miles north of Jones Beach in Nassau County (NY)....so when I went to college in upstate NY and started teaching there....while i did "fall in love" with the rolling hills, the Vineyards (wine-grapes and apples) and the Hudson river...I longed for the beach. Before that we are growing toward it...but not there yet. I became human around aged 4. I can recall sitting on a bare floor in a new home in Queens Village NYC. I can recall asking my mother "what happens when you die"? I recall riding on my dad's shoulders. I recall my mom's "onion, lettuce, cream cheese and tomato" sandwiches...all around that age. pre-kindergarten. And puberty? Discovering those first "pubic hairs"....the changing voice....the unplanned erections....yep....I recall them all too well...

The second one lasted over a decade - and I ended up being "single dad" while mom "split" for greener pastures. Whenever i'm told (or asked) "do you hate Trump" or "why do you"...I define love, hate, and indifference. You can't hate someone you've never loved...nor someone who's professed love for you....unless they've lied, decieved, or in some way turned their back on you. Then you hate. You're generally "indifferent" to strangers...unless they give you a reason to fear, loath, or hate them. And hate is toxic...it rarely affects who you hate...it just eats you up...so I like Bukowski's strategy. It reminds me of this meme;

I'm thoroughly enjoying it! I retired in 2012 aged 67, bought me a Tesla and a beachfront Condo... I spend most of the day here, or in FB....while watching the ocean waves from my LR window. I'm keeping fit with home exercise stuff, watching what I eat (if I see a piece of candy I gain weight). I bike or swim almost every day. I play tennis (against a machine) and golf irregularly. No ills yet...I had hip surgery two years ago....recovered nicely from that. The only thing I miss is a snuggle-buddy (female). Yea - I miss the sex, too...but that's NBD...wishing I could find a sweet young (or even youthful) fit "playmate" woman...but other than that...I'm good!
