I'm so proud of myself; I have to brag to you, Dot... I actually came back from a party of mostly eating excess...and actually lost a tiny fraction of weight! I stood on the scale this AM and expected at least a 1-2 pound gain. But I did eat smart....only one stick (5 small pieces) of barbequed beef (kabab) a veggie Kabab (my efforts and contribution to the event) and some salads....and a piece of Amanda's birthday cake. So I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.... But...brag/n/boast... I did it!

Robecology comments on Jul 4, 2019:
#1. Find a job. Do an active push to update and polish your resume...then send it to businesses located in favorable locales. These days I hear a lot about "INDEED.com" If you're a teacher, Try Teach.com. #2. If you get a "bite" - someone interested, offering decent pay....then go for the interview. It gives you a chance to travel to the new locale...get a feel for and flavor of it. #3. THEN do real-estate shopping. Find temporary housing first while looking for a good "investment. It worked for me when my first wife died in '77....I sent resumes to all the beach/shoreline towns in Florida; got a bite in Key Largo, flew down...locked it in...and it's been good ever since. Don't move first. Find the job first.

I understand your frustration. As a short man who's often attracted to voluptuous women...it's been a problem for me. And we men are in love with curvy...and even "voluptuous"...but we fear/loathe "obesity". I've seen this happen to at least 2 partners. They go from - as you suggested - curvy to - voluptuous to - dare I say it...fat. I've kept close to ideal weight...so I have to be honest here....the weight gain is a simple turn-off. Yet women of the past are always a little more appealing to most men if they are, in fact, slightly overweight. The catchword is "slightly". But here's the catch. Obesity is a world-wide disease that's growing rapidly (See the link) -and it's not your fault. Doting parents set you up - quite innocently, really, to overeat. Before you could walk and talk; when you were upset food was put in your mouth. So the challenge is to break habits that are deeply ingrained in us. The trick is to do two things... 1. Tolerate hunger...especially at bedtime 2. Get moving - make sweating a daily habit. You'll be "struck by lightning" more often if you lose the weight. Good luck. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/map_of_the_week/2013/04/obesity_in_america_cdc_releases_gif_of_epidemic_over_time.html

Woa; gross generalization. Hate comes when love fails. Men don't want to be hated any more than women do....let's work on our equality issues, please? I take a 50-50 approach to failed relationships....I had my issues....they had theres....a famous line in "Cool Hand Luke" sticks in my mind..."what we have here is failure to communicate". You might want to consider a fairer point of view so you can correct your behaviors before the next "hater" comes along. Please don't assume men hate any more than women do. And consider what hate is. It really is the opposite of love. You rarely hate someone who's a stranger....it's often a loved one who "allegedly" betrayed or lied to you (or you to them) so you hate that the love has broken down...and the why is not clear....so you hate that they no longer love you. Next time consider how you act that leads to the betrayal or the breaking in trust. You may be encouraging the Hate in your partners.

To fellow scientists: How do you deal with people in social settings that speak with authority ...
Robecology comments on Jul 3, 2019:
Good scientists enjoy being proven wrong. They relish it...especially if your proof is detailed or documented well. Pseudo-scientists espouse lots of info but rarely "cite" their sources. They come on as "know-it-alls" and instead of telling you sources, they'll put the onus on you to "prove me wrong". So to answer your question of "How do you deal with people in social settings that speak with authority..." I reply; "as a teacher, I constantly reminded my students that "being a scientist" is a state of mind...not a paid position. If you are a calm skeptic....not rude, not arrogant...you just quietly demand the facts and evidence - you're being "a scientist". If the person espousing the information is reluctant to "show proof" then you've won the scientific debate; you're being the scientist....they're not. https://www.americanscientist.org/article/what-makes-a-good-scientist

Wow! Researchers have suggested that the finding may reflect an example of self-mummification where monks undertook years of grueling rituals to mummify themselves to death. The practice was also widespread in Japan, starting over 1,000 years and continuing until it was banned in the 19 th century. For the first 1,000 days, the monks ceased all food except nuts, seeds, fruits and berries and they engaged in extensive physical activity to strip themselves of all body fat. For the next one thousand days, their diet was restricted to just bark and roots. Near the end of this period, they would drink poisonous tea made from the sap of the Urushi tree, which caused vomiting and a rapid loss of body fluids. It also acted as a preservative and killed off maggots and bacteria that would cause the body to decay after death. In the final stage, after more than six years of torturous preparation, the monk would lock himself in a stone tomb barely larger than his body, where he would go into a state of meditation. He was seated in the lotus position, a position he would not move from until he died. A small air tube provided oxygen to the tomb. Each day, the monk rang a bell to let the outside world know he was still alive. When the bell stopped ringing, the tube was removed and the tomb sealed for the final thousand day period of the ritual.

@RavenCT I think the present system is intentionally complex to avoid or discourage massive random blocking. If someone's being a "jerk" - you name calling them is the lowest form of debate - and shows that either you're admitting they possibly have a point to make that you object to - or they truly are ignorant and offensive - but again; name calling and blocking them doesn't address the issue. Challenge them. Ask why they think or comment the way they do. That way you're educating them, and you're raising your own awareness. There's ignoring, as well. Don't be afraid to debate. And don't "take offense" so easily. "You add to the suffering in the world when you take offense, just as much as you do when you give offense." Ken Keyes Jr.

Bees, like most stinging insects, only attack as a last measure. Remember; bees lose their life to sting you just once. Did you know you can hold most spiders in your hand? Just don't ever try to "restrict" them from moving...or they will insist that you don't quite harshly. Good news about bee keepers and honey collectors; most bee keepers are going to more "neutral-smoke" for "smoking" hives... "Smoke masks alarm pheromones which include various chemicals, e.g., isopentyl acetate that are released by guard bees or bees that are injured during a beekeeper's inspection. The smoke creates an opportunity for the beekeeper to open the beehive and work while the colony's defensive response is interrupted." They still can be "stung" if they trap or compress an individual; so careful bee-keepers avoid doing this. Bee smoker - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee_smoker

Something i found out after the fact". ....and then either waited for them to comment (I'm sure some would have apologized) or just moved on...would have probably kept your job as well as gained some respect from your co-workers. Don't keep that in. Don't say it with anger...avoid getting loud....but keep eye contact next time...especially on the one(s) who were " mocking the homeless."
What was your most memorable meal?
Robecology comments on Jul 1, 2019:
I concur; I can recall several "outdoor/scouting" meals that I partook in...not that memorable a meal...but the cooking on the fire, using rocks for racks, the store-bought "mess-kit"and the basic ingredients including some wild ones....priceless memories.
Omgosh i hope this like comes through.

That is one amazing photo...and it's evidence that having just the right angle in the water (especially challenging for backstroke) is so critical in a race.
Opening herself up to love... Will you love her like she will love you?
Robecology comments on Jul 1, 2019:
Wow; now that's "sexy-classy"!
Good morning, happy Monday, and can you believe the year is half over?
Robecology comments on Jul 1, 2019:
I just had four "smell" memories thanks to you. I love decent colognes...I'm in love with Liz Taylor's "Passion" and "Realm" for men. Oh....and....ready for the smell-memory....the ocean?
Made a simple shrimp stir fry last night.
Robecology comments on Jul 1, 2019:
Wow; looks good...but clearly "overcooked"...and no color! May I suggest you get some color rich foods (thinly sliced carrots, red/yellow/green peppers, red onions, etc) stir fry them BRIEFLY (stir fry is a classic quick cook method....) and stir in the leftovers in the last minute...just to heat up?

Amazing....and if they own the property, they're sitting on a fortune...geothermal energy is growing world -wide....I hope they invested in ownership...and that the local energy folk look in to it. "17% of New Zealand's energy is geothermal" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geothermal_power_in_New_Zealand
It was too hot to go outside this weekend, so I did this instead...

Had a really fun and relaxing night last night.

Robecology comments on Jul 1, 2019:
That's clearly the fault of the "handler"/zoo-keeper...shame on them for allowing that animal to get so overweight.

I reached back down to my pre-binge-vacation weight...Now I'm trying to get past that plateau. I know the 4th party that I'm attending will be a feast...so let's hope I avoid the carbs and overeating? But the following weekend I'll recover...
Good morning all.

Has to be some of the Utensils in the Kitchen. I use very old knives, spoons, forks, etc. I just gave a bunch of old pots and pans to a 2nd hand store and bought a new Wok...the other wok I had was positively ancient...

You deserve to be "hurt" with a gut like that!
Let's be honest, what is your answer?😊

A live cockroach. Fortunately this condo has a good pest control service. But I recall the event vividly in a former home!
