It's a higher level of being. It's very cool if you can be happy with yourself...that in itself is an accomplishment. But to be happy while sharing...learning to give and take...lead and be lead...that's just not as easy. Period. I applaud those who act truly happy being together. The problem arises that it seems that too many couples are just not happy - they plod along, make snide remarks about eachother...tolerate eachother....and don't do anything to fix it....or get out of it. Unfortunately; it seems to be getting more and more rare that you meet or know a truly happy couple. Those couples...and I'm afraid I've met many...are NOT in that higher state of being.

I'm at odds with the lady-friend for this very reason....if I "press the wrong buttons" she "explodes" with expletives, at a tone level that makes it clear she thinks i'm deaf...or a child who needs scolding.... I don't want to go to mental health "labels" (my brother is just an avid Trump follower...so we just don't talk - let's say both of them are, IMO, a "half-a-bubble" off). I concur about Education going through a lot of changes! I watched....and participated in....the evolution of the public education system. I started in '67...and retired in 2012...so I've seen a lot happen. In general, I've noticed... -class sizes got bigger; I started with groups of 20+...finished with groups approaching 40+ -requirements for hands-on experiences (in science, at least) grew -parent participation went from supportive to antagonistic -administration support went from supportive to antagonistic. -parent communication improved with the advent of personal/cell phones. -equipment and texts got better....then the computer revolution put a crimp in the textbook production....some say for better, some say for worse. -we went from blackboard to whiteboard to video, big screens and laptop screens. -we went from mimeographing (remember the smell? - I do!) to xeroxing. -we went through the textbook projector to the overhead projector to the smartscreen -we went from 16mm film projectors to Small screen TV's to large screen TV's. That's all I can think of for now..but please chime in!

They did sell bags there...quite reasonably, actually (typical WM)...but it's happening...I give it a year or two until almost all stores in the US sell plastic bags, and/or canvas and/or paper bags.

You can't beat on line dating....and if you're 100% honest...there's far less "angst" than going out and trying to meet and make friends and potential lovers at random. I was single in the 70's for a few years...again in the 80's...and again in the 90's. !st time...the bar scene was the only way to meet folk. I met the mother of my only son that way. In the 80's the "personals" were working...remember the song "Pina Colada"....that was straight out of the 80's dating style. By the 90's the internet dating sites were working....in '06 I met my present lover on a dating site. We're long distance....off...and on....and off....and on...and it works for both of us. On line dating has made it much, much easier to lay out who you are, what you are looking for; at least IMO. The 'angst" comes when you decide to be dishonest...you're "sort of" single, you "appear" to be a certain age, so you "fudge" the data a bit... height, weight, age, etc. .so of course angst creeps in. But.....The angst disappears when you're completely, blatantly honest. You have a bio - which can be one sentence or many paragraphs. If you're serious about sharing who you are you post plenty of pics; and good ones. You're much more honest/upfront/revealing with on line posts than just random meeting folk. Random meeting...you don't know their age, their marital status, their interests, their careers. They might like the same "bar" or "library" or "event" as you...but you're taking the "player/gambler route, and not the serious wanting-to-find-a-friend-companion route. I'd suspect there's far more angst with NOT going to dating sites on line and trying it your way. Now...if you're at a stage in your life where you're just not interested in dating or finding a partner/friend/soulmate...then I understand. But I think you're fooling yourself about the angst issue.

I think you should consider hiding that utility box with a couple of shrubs...perhaps expand the border of the mini-rock-wall to include it...then put a shrub in front of it? I even covered one of mine with a hollow pedestal...then put a Sundial on top...the utility people never complained! Most Americans today, and most reading this, will not "know" the suffering and tragedy of a pushed or forced emigration (when you leave a nation to go to a new one). The immigrants in to America today are also emigrants who are suffering the pain - as you have outlined above - of leaving a homeland. My grandparents (on my mother's side) were of Jewish heritage... survived in to their 90's but their families all suffered persecution in Europe under the Nazi "regime". I learned the details once....and have the details in books handed down, sitting on the bookshelf collecting dust...and every time I pick them up and read them I suffer with the empathy of their suffering....so I rarely read them. I never knew too much of my father's family - although I did meet some relatives, and visited old graves with my dad, in my youth. So all I can say is kudos for getting on with your life, for putting "the past" in the past. If you let the details of the past dwell too often in your mind they become nightmares.... so I won't do that to myself. But suffice to say; I've shared your (mental) suffering....and I congratulate you on moving on... But to those who do not know how it feels....realize that any immigrant coming to America today is coming here not so much because we have more opportunities and a fairer way of life; but the nation they're leaving is a hostile nightmare. I took (your?) advice and cut down the "muscle brownie" to a one-inch cube - and I'm down to 144.8! I also made a smaller dinner portion of beans, mushrooms, tomato sauce and a small amount of pasta. Havent been that low in years! Thanks.

Men are males...Women are females. One can be trash, and/or crazy in one person's eyes, and a treasure/pillar of sanity in another. I don't buy the "everyone's damaged" nor the "everyone needs healing" .... some damaged more than others...but many unscathed....some are doing fine... .IMO...there are many who are transparent, patient, compassionate...it depends on who they're with and their mood at the time. But by all means possible... Be open to love, and light.... Be closed to hatred and darkness.

Writing on public forums, gaining followers, getting positive comments from former students....that's the limits of my "fame"...and I'm happy with that. A day doesn't go by that I don't hear from a "follower" or former student (45 years as a teacher). What teacher doesn't enjoy praise from former students? It makes our day/week/month/year to read/hear a "thanks" or "good job" teach, or "you taught me..." etc. If I hear from an angry/disagreeable follower, I offer to debate the issues - not fight over them, not try to out-shout or step on the comments of the other (as the distant off-on lady friend is slowly learning). So despite my enjoyment of "fame" - I'm blissful when I'm by myself! I truly love me...just the way I am!

I'm a "marrying man"...married 3 times too many (4 total...1st one died young of cancer). But I learned young to "hold on tightly - let go lightly" (Ken Keyes, Jr quote)....I have no regrets and good memories from "taking the plunge" as often as I did. The end of our marriages...and the divorces... were as much my fault as theirs...I just never found "the one". Now happliy single...in and out, and in and out of a 120 mile long distance relationship...works for me!

For the past several years I have had a pair of tree swallows nesting in a bluebird box on the edge ...

Up until the middle of the past century mental health facility referrals were abused...and often women suffered. If a man was not happy in a relationship it was actually quite easy to get his wife "referred" and "committed". I know because my father did that to his first wife. I hold no grudge against my dad...and didn't know the woman. But she survived past my mother....and my brother found out about her only because she outlived my mom and got my father's social security benefits. The key is a loose, well aerated soil. If you have any kind of digging fork push it deep in to the surrounding soil, shake it a bit, and keep doing that all around the plant every so often.
