That's an often ignored problem that's increasing with global warming/climate shift. Pest insects are extending their territory and their season as warmer weather returns to the northern hemisphere sooner and sooner every year. The "cascade" effect is not only beautiful, it's useful....that rock wall looks like it could be easly eroded with a hard, prolonged rain. The vegetation slows the runoff....but I also concur with the need for a trim. You could also replant the ones in the left foreground higher on the wall. Perhaps take the excessive lower growth (center of image) and re-plant them in the upper part of the wall, lower left in the image? Kudos, Master Gardener!

And to Neffi's point...the implications of "Developing"....are spot on....But that brings us to the morals of our ancestors. There's a lot of arguments pro and con about the morals of our ancestors. Our grandparents and great grand parents - and beyond - were definitely more ruthless about conquest....and at the same time more religious. Yet many in the "Developing/Agrarian nations were passive and idyllic..and suffered from being "ruthlessly pillaged and systemically destabilized" Do we "blame" them or "empathize" with their ignorance? Who were more "ignorant" the "Developed" or the "Developing"? Will our grand, and great grand children consider us with the same tinted glasses? How do we want our Grand and great grand children to look at us? Should we care? When you're a demographer (as I have been for most of my science teacher life) you break down nations in to two groups; Developed and Developing. We recently learned that these terms are "offensive" so we went with "Industrialized" vs Agrarian, or Agricultural nations. But it's clear; some nations ended up with greedy, aggressive leadership...some ended up with weak or no leadership. The Aggressive nations became developed, the weak became the "developing". It's sad, but it's real. So are we now "enlightened" or just "tolerant"?

I still have a fear of lightning storms. I recall watching "The bad seed" which ended with the person walking out on a board walk then getting struck by lightning. I also was in my attic bedroom of a tiny 3-1 Levittown home watching the storm while I actually saw lighting hit a house and make it almost explode; a burst of sparks flew off the roof, followed almost immediately by a fire. I don't know if it was my bringing it to my parent's attention that caused the fire department to be called...but I recall seeing the work being done to fix that roof...and it's affected my reaction to lightning storms to this day.

I never got "weepy"...over the Notre Dame fire....but the beauty and architecture showed the devotion of our ancestors to worshiping the myth. I'm hoping the fire will end up being looked upon as something that expedited the restoration of it....the Notre Dame Cathedral was a real work of art..., and should be restored (without so much wood, IMO.). Actually; the fire did something that was a goal of the restorers. The fire did something quickly that would have taken years, if not decades...it removed almost all the ancient bitterly dried and probably insect infested wood...which apparently was a goal of any ancient rebuilding...to renew and restore the framework. If you look at the history of religion - you'd see that religion - and western Christianity in particular, served many purposes. Mostly it acted as a population growth control - albeit a restriction of the growth of wisdom and knowledge....the punishments meted out killed millions of scientists, known then as "alchemists" , "witches" and "warlocks".... Yet western Christianity also served as a moral compass; whereas those allegedly without a "religion" were morally corrupt. (I say, allegedly....because we now know this was not true). The "church" was at first a population growth encourager....suggesting we "go forth and multiply" but then they started emphasizing we be the "shepherds of nature" and work to respect the environment. Unfortunately, that emphasis became only token, and not strong enough for the present growth rate (158 more births, than death, per minute, world wide). -once from Coney Island (NYC)- my birth home (never knew it) to queens NYC (remember it vaguely). -Once from Queens NYC to Levittown Long Island . -once to upstate N.Y. to go to college (lived on campus in the dorms for 3 years, off campus in private housing for 1 year....technically another move) -once to a small cottage to live with my first wife. My first "fireplace"home. -once to get closer to town (the cottage we rented was sold). A rental in town with a fireplace...charming! -once to Mobile home on 7 acres just under the mid-hudson train bridge. Nice home...great surroundings! -once to a mobile home park a few miles away (someone bought the 7 acres). -once to a mobile home on the water in the Florida Keys...rental -once to a mobile home on the water in the keys...purchase -once to a 3-1 closer to my work, on the mainland (Homestead, Fl) my first pool home! -once to a 3-2 with more room and potential for development (had a pool built there) -once to a retirement village here in Ft. Pierce.... wow...13 times in my life! damn! Never counted!

The history behind the peace symbol is interesting; it had to do with banning nuclear-warhead carrying bombers....(see the resemblance in the image to a big jet? purely coincidental!) The peace sign was really designed in 1958 by British artist Gerald Holtom for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), which was having its first major march in England.
