I'm a thoughtful, affectionate, loving person with a sense of humor, emotional intelligence, writing skills and an education.

I'd like to meet some like-minded people to date and for friendship who share some of my cultural interests and relational values. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm for a guy with a college education, but someone who values learning, self-knowledge and discovery is important. It doesn't mean I'm just for a dating partner either. I'm happy to meet like-minded men and women for friendship purposes, since it can sometimes be difficult to connect with people IRL. If what I've written here resonates with you, and my interests interest you, then we might be a match. If not, then we're probably not a fit for friendship or dating.

My cultural interests would include morose indie pop music from the '80s and '90s (I'm a big music geek); modern art; literature; some art house/indie movies, as well as true crime, film noir, suspense, sci-fi, animation and overwrought Victorian costume dramas. That pretty much describes my reading list, too: true crime, sci-fi, historical fantasy and Victorian lit (particularly tales of girls, down on their luck in Victorian England, who must resort to pickpocketing, or other vices to make their way in the world).

I also enjoy the occasional road trip, walk around town, beach walk, museum visit, science centers, book stores, places that are off the beaten track, etc. After a long work week, though, I usually prefer to chill at home with some good food, stimulating tv, internet surfing and good conversation.

Philosophically, I'd describe myself as an atheistic secular humanist, and I prefer not to date religious people. I have dated religious people in the past and sometimes it's worked out, so I'm not completely opposed to the idea. But in general, I prefer to keep religion out of my life.

I work in education as a school counselor, rousting boys out of the girls' bathroom, giving students detention for swearing, and working on study skills with kids who don't like to read. ...Well, that was mostly middle school. Now I'm a school counselor, so I try to help students graduate or at least get most of their credits before they leave.

Working in education, I usually have my weekends free. I also have my own car and place to live. The person I'm interested in dating will generally be able to say the same. I'm not Ms. Moneybags by any means, and am not for Mr. Moneybags. But I can provide for myself and enjoy my weekends off, and am hoping the person I date can say the same.

Note: I live in SoCal and I'm not interested in long distance dating or pen pals. I do want to leave SoCal because the cost of living here is too expensive. But for now, while I'm here, I want to date people who live within a 20-50 mile radius of me, preferably closer if possible. If that doesn't describe you, please don't waste your time contacting me about dating.
