History geek with a twisted sense of humor & a love of thread craft & cooking. I raise chickens & run with pit bulls.

For the record, I have a form of dyslexia that skews comprehension of the written word. You will see (no probably to it) where I may edit to correct typos & clarify or add words I totally missed typing but my brain kept saying they were there... fun stuff.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I am also polyamorous and a sapiosexual. go figure. Here for conversation & making connections &, maybe, if things work out, more. Not keeping fingers crossed though. At my age I have a greater chance of dying in a plane crash than finding "true love"... & I don't fly.

Curious if there are any thoughtful, ethically non-monogamous people on here?
SallyInStitches comments on Aug 7, 2018:
I'm hard wired poly. In the depth of religious dedication & commitment. monogamy was such a foreign concept. I didn't understand the whole idea to being dedicated to a single person, body & soul, for all eternity. I kept thinking these people love each other but sex isn't love & love isn't sex.... I've had people go off on me for being poly. I confirm they are in a monogamous relationship, dedicated to their partner & then I ask, "so, if, gawd forbid, your partner could never perform another sexual act, at all, would you stay?" These people look pole axed. So far, only 1 person, after a ton of consideration, gave a halting yes. Everyone else wanted to argue those things dont happen. Then I explain I know I cant be the end all be all, no one can. If my partner wants certain things I have no interest in, why should he not get that from someone else. I mean, I have no intention of jumping out of a perfectly good plane but he wants to. & so does another friend. They can go right on ahead. (Good luck with that.) I'll be on the ground to welcome him back to terra firma & he can tell me all about it. Feel the same way about sex.

When they ask what religion I am, I tell them I'm a witch. That was 2000, right after we moved to this house. We've been put on a "do not visit" list. Havent had anyone darken my door since.
So Ive just restarted match.
SallyInStitches comments on Jul 14, 2019:
I met a guy through mutual friends & we started dating. He was a homeowner, kids in early teens, long term employment w/same employer. I pegged him for late 30s, early 40s. Evidently, he pegged me for same. Imagine our surprise when we found out there is a 20 year age difference. We've been dating over 6 years now. Because our work schedules are direct opposite, we both own homes, among other things, this arrangement works well for us at this time. We'll see what happens down the road.

Just how religious do you believe President Trump really is?
SallyInStitches comments on May 7, 2018:
He has claimed to be a christian & stated he has never asked for forgiveness because he hasnt done anything for which he needs forgiveness. This flies in the face of the christian tenant that all are born sinful. Add in cheating at business. Strong arming people by attorney, breaking contracts (all fall under lying & stealing), has cheated on his wives (whoremongering) ...that list just goes on.

I look for science happenings around town such as the free telescope night at the local science museum where folks come out & look at the moon/stars/sky & get a bit of astronomy, the "nocturnal animal nights" at the local wildlife center where you get a guided tour of the area ($5 per person), even the local art museum has a ton of science & math then & now (perspective in art, creating colored glass for stained glass windows) not to mention they usually carry things like acient Egyptian funerary art & mummy (resurrection, mummification, how silly), reliquary (kept the bones of saints...saints bones was big business, lots of money...how silly), etc. Sonetimes just gently pointing things out gets the wheels turning I'm also the "grandma of books" & I usually get my grandkids a fun book & an age appropriate educational book. What are your honest thoughts on astrology?
SallyInStitches comments on Aug 5, 2019:
The vagueness of the horoscopes allows imagination to fill in the gaps. "You'll meet a stranger..." well that's pretty likely since I will leave my house. "It will be a frustrating day..." (gestures at the White House w/a 'no shit Sherlock ' expression on my face). Its a bunch of hoo-doo & road apples.
Is it wise to get back with an ex?
SallyInStitches comments on Feb 24, 2018:
When my sons started the whole dating thing, I told the the following: Relationships are like a gallon of milk. If you pour a glass & its sour, you don't put it back in the fridge & think "that will be better 3 months from now". They are an Ex for a reason.
So as of yesterday my job (Lowe's) laid me off without notice.
SallyInStitches comments on Aug 1, 2019:
Being laid off w/out severance may mean you are entitled to immediate unemployment. I was laid off w/4 weeks severance back in 2000 & had to wait for unemployment to kick in after that 4 weeks. When I was laid off in 2004 w/out severance, unemployment kicked in right away.
Somedays, I make myself a list of chores.
SallyInStitches comments on Oct 13, 2018:
I make "To Do" lists & give myself 30 minutes on an indoor chore before I move to the next, complete or not. That way I don't get bored, i check off what is complete, & get motivated by removing chores from the list. Once through the list, I start at the top again & work my way through till done. Most of my indoor chores take 30 minutes or less. Cutting grass takes 2 hours. I don't break on outdoor chores.

Do we make our fates or is life preordained??
SallyInStitches comments on Jul 17, 2018:
Preordination & predestination are religous constructs to pigeonhole the masses in believing they have no direct impact over their own life & what ever happens, good or ill, god did it & amyone who abuses them or is a despot, etc, has been preordained by god to test the faithful to see if they are truly subservient to god's will.

SallyInStitches comments on Feb 27, 2018:
I've had a few. Before I got braces it was "Bucky" due to severe overbite. With braces it was "tinsel teeth" Then after developing a figure it was "Vidalia" (like the onion) because, evidently I was "a piece of ass that can bring tears to your eyes" (he was southern & it was a compliment.) Now, all grown up, I don't really have a nickname, unless the different bits of profanity I'm called throughout the work day counts (I'm an investigator for a utility compant).

How important is physical attraction?
SallyInStitches comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Dated a guy i found attractive. He was nice enough, & interesting, but he was very busy & did not have time or energy to devote to a relationship. We went out a couple of times & the 3rd date he kissed me. It was the literal kiss of death for that relationship. No spark, zero chemistry, for both of us. The end.
Is there a lesson to be learned from a "failed relationship?"
SallyInStitches comments on Mar 1, 2018:
A failed relationship is an opportunity to look at what worked, what didnt, the qualities of the previous person & the qualities you want in your next relationship I like to think of relationships as math equations there is the constant(you), thevariablle(the other person) & the outcome. If the outcome is always the same, the issue is not with the variable. You can't make different, wiser choices without close evaluation.

Hello all just out of a curious though how do you unwind after a hard day's graft (work).
SallyInStitches comments on Sep 16, 2018:
I have about an hour drive home so I spend that time either listening to news, music, or audio books. Once home, its chore time so I change in grubby clothes, tend to my chickens, gather/clean eggs, maybe a bit of yard work, depending on weather & light, make a bit of dinner (soup or the like), pack lunch for the next day, pack my gym bag for the next day & get that in my vehicle, lay out my clothes for the next day, get cleaned up & in bed. Maybe a touch of reading them lights out.

Thoughts on Interracial Dating & Marriage
SallyInStitches comments on Aug 10, 2018:
I don't know if they are more open to it or not. That would required a broad sampling with control groups to make an actual determination of statistical fact.... and this is what happens with you live with a statistitian for 17 years. personally, race is not an issue. I do prefer to date people taller than me but thats not saying much. I'm 5'1" so 5'6" or better.... and I never intend to marry again. once was sufficient. pretty sure things havent changed in 31 years.

SallyInStitches comments on Feb 27, 2018:
We are all adults, put the seat in the position you want it in. If its dirty, clean while you're at it. Paper rolls from the top. Please see patent diagrams for confirmation of same. (Some dispensers are made for under though. If you use top dispensing position in these types of dispensers, the paper comes off in single sheets & tatters.)
Who else gets annoyed when someone like a cashier says have a blessed day?
SallyInStitches comments on Feb 21, 2018:
My work requires a lot of phone conversations with people that basically amount to "yes, I do understand you need service. We need payment in cash, money order or certified funds". When customers start cursing me out, I tend to respond with "have a blessed day" & end the call. It tends to twist the knife so to speak & they can't accuse me of being rude.
Famous last words. What do you think the best last words will be?
SallyInStitches comments on May 11, 2018:
These are all statements that started fights. "You & what army?" "And just who in the actual fuck do you think you are talking to?" "Fuck you & the horse you rode in on" "Go eat shit & howl at the moon" & my favorite: "Look honey, I'm not gonna keep him, just fuck him real good & send him home to you with a warm memory & a really good story."

I think the things that I miss most is the "community" (people connected & local) & the ritual. Ritual is comforting & gives a sense of balance (think about when your timing in tbe morning is a little off & the mental/emotional impact that has). Of course you add a protection facet that says if you have enough faith & believe, a big, all powerful, magical being will look after you & make it ok, gives you a sense of assurance in a crazy world.

He couldnt carry in-person conversation in a tin bucket. He asked which movie i wanted to see (action movie) then bought tickets for a chick flick ?. We go in & he tries to hold my hand...felt like a glove stuffed full of warm oatmeal...& damp. I exited to the ladies room & went home.
Grief and depression
SallyInStitches comments on Jun 17, 2018:
My depression came on when my father passed & we had to go through his things. I'm the youngest of 5 & was "daddy's girl". It put me in bed with the covers over my head. If it wasn't for my kids, I'm not sure I would have made it to my doctor's office to sit on the examine table & sob out that I had no clue what was wrong with me. Meds & therapy helped, a lot but it took a long time. 14 years later, there are times where grief just sneaks up & grabs me out the blue. I'm not going to say it gets better but you learn how to live with it. Right now, take care of yourself. Do what is absolutely necessary & be willing to say no to energy sucks. Seek out therapy, a support group, talk to a medical professional.

How important is sexual chemistry in a relationship?
SallyInStitches comments on Mar 7, 2018:
Pretty important if the relationship is supposed to be an intimate, living, "romantic" one. Dated a guy, really nice guy, smart, hard working, great conversationalist. Wasn't sure how I felt romantically, but things were progressing & I was feeling warmer towards him....then he kissed me. Nothing wrong with his technique but was the flattest, most unexciting thing to ever happen to me. Was the literal kiss of death to that relationship. Zero chemistry.

This question is for the fit members of this site. What do you do when you get injured?
SallyInStitches comments on May 12, 2018:
I tweaked my knee pretty badly hauling 50lb bags of feed from the truck to the shed last year. That meant I had to change my work out & the way I ate to avoid putting back on weight I'd worked hard to lose. I hate a stationary bike. Its a torture device that wears on your ass & takes you nowhere. But that was what I was stuck doing for cardio for 6 very long weeks. I could not really work out my lower body weight wise so I took a lot of yoga & floor pilates classes. I started following the old saw about eating like a king at breakfast, a prince at lunch & a pauper at dinner, having the bulk of my calories before 1pm, the soup & simple salad for dinner. Once my knee was healed, I've made a point to do a lot of leg strengthening, weight bearing exercises to make sure the muscles are supporting the joint better so I don't have a relapse. I did have to have a surgery for something else but fortunately it didn't derail the bulk of my workout but it did force me to do much lighter workouts for 2 weeks.

SallyInStitches comments on Feb 18, 2018:
There are a lot of things I like now that I couldn't stomach as a kid...squash & onions, liver, black pepper. When I grew up, I figured out my dad was right. My mother couldn't cook & would screw up the recipe for ice. Everything was cooked to either mush or cinders & coated in pepper.

SallyInStitches comments on Sep 20, 2018:
Depends on the season. If its summer, I'm partial to fresh raw veg, cornbread & beans/legumes. If its spring, I live spring veg (asparagus, poke sallet, dandelion greens), spoonbread (think savory cornmeal souffle) & cheese. Fall & winter is when I slip into soups, stews & chowders menu. The kids love the "baked potato soup bar" where they get to dress their soup with all the fixins.

I was young, and stupid, and raised on the religious pablum that this was expected of me based on my gender. It didn't last long, I never did it again & never darkened a church door after the divorce.
Did you read it
SallyInStitches comments on Oct 24, 2018:
I'd rather read that 50 shades of shyte book.
What would a Sunday morning agnostic/atheist community meeting look like?
SallyInStitches comments on Jul 15, 2018:
In poor weather: Sunday brunch, good conversations, cold Scarlet O'Haras & a designated driver. In good weather: fishing, kicking back & enjoying the day.
How many of you are here hoping to find a relationship (im using that term loosely). Me! Js
SallyInStitches comments on Jul 29, 2018:
I'm looking to meet folks, have good conversation, learn new things. If it works into something more, thats great. If it doesn't, I'm all the better for the experience.
Blind faith?
SallyInStitches comments on Nov 10, 2018:
They yammer about faith, have faith, believe in what you can't see, be strong in faith. They talk of "laying up treasure in heaven", living for the afterlife...because if there isn't a reason for the sucktadtic & horrible shit that happens, some godly plan or lesson to learn or worse, someone close to you has forced god to use you as an object lesson to "bring them back to the fold"... its because they don't want to take full responsibility for their actions & own their own shit plus, this life is all there is & they can't fathom that dead stop & eternal dirt nap.
If alien species existed, do you think they’d want anything to do with humanity or Earth?
SallyInStitches comments on Aug 1, 2018:
Pretty sure any alien interest would be purely scientific or nothing but wholesale horrified fascination.
This made me laugh. So thought I would share it.

Friend committed suicide about a week ago.
SallyInStitches comments on Aug 18, 2018:
I am sorry for your loss. I always keep in mind that funerary rights are not for the dead but for the living, as a way to move forward from the loss of a loved one.
Name that movie... Go back to then! What?

Why do you keep employing witches & then encourage them to be hunted? Are you anti-witch or just trying to make America great again 1 witch at a time?
