The latest version is CE - common era, based on zero being the same time as AD (Anno Domini, literally the year of the lord), which was instituted by a Roman monk about 500AD= 500CE . The BCE (before the common era) correspomds to BC. The change is due to many countries / religions not recognising jesus the god child ... sad they could not find some logical reasoning for the start of time as we know it

In England, many people classify themselves as christian (multiple branches of same tree,, but attendance of most churches is at very low levels and still falling .... even weddings and funerals in a church are becoming less common. Christian religion is simply not part of everyday life ... same is not true for muslims ... am unsure of other religious groups. It is perfectly acceptable to openly declare that gods are a figment of past imaginations, adopted by some today ... except with devout muslims ... they take offence ....not sure if there is a fatwa on me yet

I personally would find it extremely difficult to live with someone who spent their life on their knees praying. ShadowAmicus comments on May 1, 2019:
But the moralistic story is that god saved the goodies and drowned the baddies - so you have to be good because god is always watching and knows all the bad stuff you do. When you convince people of that you have control over social norms like the ten commandments against, killing, fucking your neighbours wife, theft, etc ... so there is some fundamental benefit in the general ideas of religion. Personally - I manage my adherence to morality without the oversight of a god ...... and my neighbours wife was in an unhappy marriage and needed cheering up ... quite often ... didn't turn out well

I'm agnostic, but pretty much as close to atheist as an agnostic can get.
ShadowAmicus comments on Jul 14, 2019:
I have friends and acquaintances around the world who followtheir god, under whatever religious banner they choose - me being agnostic does not prevent friendship, rather the opposite. Almost every religion is based on a moral and social code and there are massive overlaps of moral values between these religions and my own views - the basics like not killing, not stealing, helping others, etc.- and some religious ideas I disbelieve like sex, particularly homosexuality, or with a neighbours wife is a sin. My friends and I often talk directly, or by messaging, about moral and philosophical questions and debate possible actions that could be taken to improve parts of the world. They, for the most part, agree that it is not necessary to follow a god to be a 'good' person, as I have come to accept that the teaching of moral values to children can not always be left to parents and is easier for society in general to instill such values if there is a standard bearer / religion to follow. Our only difference is that they are certain a supreme being exists and I do not - but lacking evidence either way I acknowledge there may be (in the same way that we have not yet found a goatherder on the moon - but there may be one) It is judgmental, chauvinistic and frankly stupid, to cut out of your life any person simply because they hold religious views ... better to talk, acknowledge the differences and celebrate the points of agreement.

Dog attack - left arm out and let dog grab then gun under jaw and fire knife slide across to cut throat thumb jabbed into eye - bit trickier, timing is crucial all messy but efective If you know how - a kick (Mae Keri) leg bent and then kicked out into dogs head. A swinging leg kick is useless. This kick will also stop a man - can break a shin or knee with practice

I see my family a few times each year, tomorrow is one of those days. My brothers birthday, an excruciating day going over memories about people I have forgotten, places I dont remember visiting and trivial family stories I never needed to know. Nothing ever said about my father hitting and kicking my mother, my mother beating us with a cane, or father beating us with a belt - which for years I knew as normal family life. My oldest sister will, eventually, prattle on about how bad they all felt on the night I nearly died, despite having been told I don't want to hear it and knowing it will cause me a painful few days of memories that normally stay partially buried. I have little in common with my siblings, even less with their offspring and no reason to see them other than a shared mother ... and every time I ask myself 'why bother?'

ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 28, 2019:
Trump started calling Biden 1% Joe a while ago - that indicates to me that Trump is worried by him, hence would prefer he was out of the race. Basic Income?
ShadowAmicus comments on Jul 12, 2019:
You first have to decide what is 'better distribution of wealth' If it is to take money from some and give it to others - how do you justify it and how do you do it? You can not place a high tax burden on the wealthy, because the wealthy can move abroad and many will, reducing tax revenue overall Does someone who does not work have a right to be financially supported by his neighbour who is struggling with 2 jobs? Education should give everyone the skills to enable them to make a path in life - after that you choos which path and find your way through it The question steps into a quagmire of moral and philosophical issues
