My direction in life -- to live well and die happy -- whenever that may come.
I enjoy good company, a little wine, whisky or beer, decent food and whenever possible, sunshine.
Hobbies are walking and talking with my dog , reading, contemplating the philosophy of life, relaxing on my boat, deep sea fishing and deciding if I have enough 'stuff' to write a novel.

ShadowAmicus comments on May 22, 2019:
I loved the ending - I watched episode 1 of the first series for maybe 20 minutes before deciding it was rubbish unworthy of spending time on. Many series later I was forced into watching the '10 best moments' (at someone elses house - the highlight I would definitely like being a guy who wanted to be king having molten gold poured on his head. .CRAP - if you want revenge it is best served very slowly and painfully - and molten gold doesn't cut it.. Pleased the whole thing is done with - I only have to avoid repeats, which I expect will begin very soon.

ShadowAmicus comments on May 26, 2019:
If a dog attacks or bites there is always a reason - and I have plenty of scars from bites. The commonest reasons are dominance and fear. Dominance: everything a dog does is about pack hierarchy - dogs never play fight - they test each others strength and fitness the more dominant showing it is still stronger. In a dogs eyes, humans are part of their pack and usually the human takes the role of pack leader - some people do not easily adopt that role and the dog feels it has to take charge to 'look after you because you are weak' simple indicators are pushing through doors first, taking control of a chair, etc. It could easily be that lady had a drink, or took drugs, maybe hours earlier .. but enough effect for that dog to decide it had the chance to gain dominance .. Pit bulls are not toy dogs, they need careful control by someone who knows what they are doing and can read the signs.... getting it wrong can and does prove fatal.... but any dog over 40kg (90lb) will always easily kill a human if it so desires...few do Fear; unlikely in this case. A fearful dog - tail tucked under, hind quarters lowered, looking away, are all signs of fear - leave the dog alone. If you want to gain its confidence, get a magazine, sit on the floor a few feet away and read aloud. The dog will eventually decide you are not a hreat, will relax and eventually come to you - give it time - then dont be stupid and grab its neck, rub its head or anyhing more than put your hand on the floor to be sniffed. Win confidence you have a friend.....approach too quickly, particularly if you force it into a corner, it may bite...a fearful dog will move away from you if it can..
I will just leave this lying here for all you city dwellers to enjoy and think about - a little ...

I dont remember Kennedy being shot - but I remember my mother and sisters crying as the funeral was on tv. 9-11 I was on holiday is Keswick, just bought a jacket and saw people crying in the street but did not know why. Then joined dozens outside a TV shop watching it live as the second tower was hit. Most people saw a plane hit the tower - I was watching hundreds die and the start of a war..... Turns out I underestimated the number of dead and overestimated the war.
Any advice?

ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 8, 2019:
A lot of early music - plainchant and polyphony - amazing what could be done by just blending human voices - I dont mind the religious context as mainly latin text and my translation is not that quick. Highlights Allegri Miserere mei deus and Tallis Spem in alium Bach, Beethoven, and most of the classical period Highlights Beethoven pastoral symphony (pastoral) Bach - welll how do you choose just one piece - maybe air on a g string Later Mahler, Shostakovich, Dvorak, Barber, Vaughan - Williams, Rachmaninov - just too many. crooners, like Jim Reeves, who had a silky voice sixties bands - from Allman Brothers to Zeppelin, with Cream, Pink Floyd, Yes, Supertramp, Camel and so many more now - music by voices8, Pentatonix, but very few 'singers' and many new performers of classical music
