In the south people will pull to the side of the road and stop for an oncoming funeral procession.
ShadowAmicus comments on Jul 2, 2019:
Funerals are not for the dead - the coffin is just a contaiber for a lump of meat. A funeral is a public display of grief by those who mourn the loss - I have no problem in allowing them to do that and if waiting at a roadside for a minute or so to allow them to pass is the cost - small price to pay

ShadowAmicus comments on Jul 1, 2019:
I never use a bus ... I took my car for a service about 8 miles away, a 10 minute drive and left it for the day ... bus stop just outside the garage and that bus stops close to my home - NO PROBLEM - in my fucking dreams waited 20 minutes for a bus to arrive ...a large noisily throbbing vehicle, seats as comfortable as a stone slab, packed with a blend of humanity I usually avoid ... sat with babys crying, stained with vomit and stinking of shit, mothers totally disinterested in the baby or other brats that cry, shout, scream, fight, etc throughout the journey...older people stoicly staring out of the window, pretending their life is not as bad as it clearly is .. A full hour on that bus. visited every group of more than 5 houses, stopping every 400 yards or so - (can nobody walk any more) - saw places that I didn't know existed and would have been none the worse for never knowing. That was a few years ago - I simply do not have enough hours left in my life to waste another on a bus ride

Trump - the 1st sitting President to enter North Korea.
ShadowAmicus comments on Jul 1, 2019:
North Korea is run as a personal fiefdom by one family - sooner or later the regime will collapse under the strain of maintaining control while the populace starves... support of the regime from China, (probably to prevent mass migration of Koreans into China), is the only thing preventing collapse

ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 30, 2019:
Just a taster of some things like to do, or have come to believe that most ladies find unacceptable. I never seek to impose these ideas: they place me outside the usual social views, but I have never been one to accept normality or socially accepted norms without question. I will try to be cordial with everyone I meet - do not expect or ask for respect - you have to earn it I like time alone - am ok with walking off into the woods for a couple of days with just a knife, bungee cord, matches and what I am wearing - I don't mind being hungry or cold for 2 or 3 days, it helps me focus on what is important in life (not much in UK, apart from weather, could kill a human) I have limited agreement with the human rights act - people earn rights by living within the boundaries of society and surrender them by choice. I do not hold human life as sacred - met too many humans who deserve to die and was not allowed to kill them - that human rights thng again I believe it is stupid and selfish for people who know they have an inheritable disease to choose to have children rather than choose not to have them ... and there is a case for forced sterilisation I believe there are far too many humans on the planet to allow other species to comfortably survive and often wonder if a large scale cull of humans is a good idea .. maybe the world will, one day, inflict a cull I believe that to preserve elephants, rhinos, etc it is worth creating a very large nature reserve in Africe which humans are not allowed to enter - on pain of death by drone - and do the same for other creatures in other habitats I believe from birth, everyone deserves a chance to live, be educated, take their own decisions and live with the consequences of their actions - do not ask for my support - if you try to help yourself you may earn it
Disney Heir Abigail Disney Calls For Tax On The Wealthy : NPR
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 30, 2019:
Used to be, back in the 19th and early 20th century that the wealthy gave large contributions to fund healthcare etc - then government took over that responsibility, 'organised' everything, and started increasing taxes to fund it. Am unsure which system is best. I remember Dennis Healey as chancellor (man in charge of UK money) back in the 60s saying the government would 'squeeze the rich )property speculators) until the pips squeaked' ... they increased tax rates accordingly to an effective rate of 98% on unearned income. The response of the wealthy - 'fuck this' and they then fucked off to tax havens - leaving the government with less income from tax than under the lower rate, You can only extract money to the level people believe is fair and equitable

ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 30, 2019:
I think when we have lived a little longer than most we all have pretty well defined what we want in life and what type of person we want to share that with - finding that exact match is hard, and depends on how much you are willing to compromise.. The greatest 'religion' in India is the social class structure, part of the Hindu culture ... slowly being eroded, but will exist for many more generatons ( how similar to USA / western racism). Visit India to see the vibrancy, the colour, the passion of the country, present everywhere and varies in form around the coutry. Don't bother trying to change it all - just take along a stash of pens, pencils and books to any of hundreds of schools to help the next generation.

Time, chance mutations, survival of the fittest - - how did humanity develop? by the same process, or maybe a spaceship full of beings from an advanced ivilisation turned up and screwed around with things - it is impossible to know exactly what happened, but a timeline can be established There are two examples of evolution that stand out for me - firstly the eye, as it has developed in different species, from a simple receptor of light to a complex lens system .. and a butterfly (moth), that needs camoflague against a tree trunk to survive and changed colour, rapidly in evolutionary terms, to adapt to pollution darkening tree bark sorry dont have details - long time ago when I looked into this

ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 28, 2019:
Trump started calling Biden 1% Joe a while ago - that indicates to me that Trump is worried by him, hence would prefer he was out of the race. Look how effective his running down of Hilary became - he will try the same with Biden. Once his first target is dealt with he will turn his attention to others he doesn't want nominated. Trump may be despicable, but despite what most on here say, he is not stupid - he fights dirty and he fights to win - the childlike shouting match 'debate' of yesterday can only help Trump

ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 28, 2019:
I only saw the snippets on BBC news and it sounded as I expected, like schoolchildren all shouting to be heard with no real debate...heard a couple of nice soundbites that were clearly in the pocket ready for the opportunity to use them. I would like to see, once down to a manageable handful, an interview of an hour, with a good political interviewer who can ask pertinent questions of their beliefs and policies and dissect their answers - get to the heart of their capabilities and give a clear idea of how they would handle the presidency Perhaps if this had been done prior to Trump becoming candidate, there would have been a different outcome - he is very poor under interview conditions

Always good to hear good singers who can hit and hold a note - and always gets a good reception by the crowd The Requiem, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber as a way to cope with and express his grief was nspired by two separate tragedies. A journalist who had interviewed him just weeks before dying in Northern Ireland as a result of the IRA conflicts, and the story of a Cambodian boy who was forced to murder his mutilated sister or be executed himsel. The finished piece is dedicated it to his father who passed away in 1982. Webber's Requiem is his most personal composition, and his only fully completed classical work. Webber's Requiem was first performed in New York City, New York in the St. Thomas Church on February 25, 1985, with conductor Lorin Maazel, soprano Sarah Brightman (who, at the time, was his wife), tenor Placido Domingo, and child soprano Paul Miles-Kingston. In 1986, Requiem earned Lloyd Webber a Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition. - have attached an old version with Brightman and Miles-Kingston https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-mLTAFrlEA I guess few agnostics have a knowledge of latin - otherwise you would be complaining about the text - Pie Jesu" English Translation Merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus Father, who takes away the sins of the world Grant them rest, grant them rest Merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus, merciful Jesus Father, who takes away the sins of the world Grant them rest, grant them rest Lamb of God, Lamb of God, Lamb of God, Lamb of God Father, who takes away the sins of the world Grant them rest, grant them rest everlasting everlasting Rest personally I admire the sentiment, but when you die you become just another lump of meat to feed the world
