After having a bad day, I miss the intimacy of a motorcycle ride with someone you love.
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 23, 2019:
I miss the thrill of riding fast down an open road, pushing the bends, getting close to the edge - it's an adrenaline junkie thing - knowing that if you get it wrong, you may pay a heavy price, but accepting that for the thrill of feeling truly alive ... ...I love feeling alive, more than I want to maintain breathing for the sake of it . Only by living at the edge of death can you understand the indescribable joy of life. (I forget who said that) I get less close when a friend is sat behind me - have no desire to push them to an edge they may not want to see. - and it then becomes foreplay - enough of a thrill to pump adrenaline, but tempered by security,,....a leather clad lover wrapped around behind, holding on tightly, expectantly ... feeling their tension as you fly ....it is absorbing and so sensual
United States Spend Ten Times More On Fossil Fuel Subsidies Than Education
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 23, 2019:
The study is about the impact of fossil fuel on society .. the 'subsidy' includes costs for effects of pollution (healthcare, climate change effects, etc) so the figures are at best estimates and not directly linked to the amount a government actually subsidises a fossil fuel. If you have coal fired power stations and feel bad enough about global warming - have your electricity cut off. If you have a fossil fuel driven car and you feel bad enough about global warming - take the car to a scrapyard and have it crushed (no point selling it as that would not decrease the emissions) If you have an electric powered car, and dont have solar panels, wind, hydro or other renewable source of electricity - if you want to stop global warming, sorry you must scrap yours too The whole way our societies are constructed, the lifestyle we have all bought into, is predicated on free availability of cheap electricity and transport - and society will scream loudly if, or more likely when, these are threatened
Well it fits like a dream.

What is the essence of 'modernity' ?
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 23, 2019:
I reject the argument completely. The pproposition is that Humans should master the world through reason and science to 'produce a more hospitable world for themselves .... so that it may serve the needs of human beings' I would suggest that seeking to live as part of the natural world, in a manner that allows all species to thrive should be the prime directive of humanity ... humans should act as conservators, not masters
Is anyone else as scared as I am about global warming?
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 23, 2019:
Why worry? global warming is going to continue and little will be done to stop it. Even if the amount of CO2, methane etc is halved per head of population it is irrelevant, as the population will soon be doubled to 15billion. The only thing that will stop global warming is a rapid decline in world human population and that is unlikely to be orchestrated by governments. Once the earth becomes inhospitable to humans - too little fresh water, air becomes unbreathable, food can not be grown, etc - whichever happens, humanity will decline and some other species will come to dominate the earth, or perhaps the remaining humans will relearn how to live with the planet without raping it every day

Why do so many Americans (as they call themselves) despise the word "immigration"?
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 22, 2019:
Way back in time when Russia inveaded Afghanistan (1979-89) America decided it would be a good idea to arm the Taliban resistance fighters ... seemed like a good idea at the time. Since then the whole fundamental muslim terrorist threat has been a shit studded snowball rolling downhill and steadily growing. Bits of the threat get knocked off, only to rise again elsewhere....and it will not go away ... ever ... because terrorism thrives on poverty and suppression.

ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 22, 2019:
looks like the guy could get a trial at american football. If you are a terrorist, that is not the point you want to attack - the aim is to kill and maim a crowd, or take down an aircraft in flight - maybe ransom passengers, but the latter idea seems to be out of favour. This guy had no weapon and no idea of what he was doing - there was never any real danger, no chance he could get past everyone, run down the corridors, leap into a plane and steal it - what was he trying to do????

Ok,,, if I start an atheist "church",,, how many of you will join?
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 22, 2019:
In early books adopted into the bible the word Jesus used for church was the Greek word “ekklÄ“sia”. The same word is used for when a gathering of citizens are called from their homes into a public place for an assembly. If you are thinking of some sort of assembly / party / meeting of like minded agnostics I'm in ... but if you plan some sort of organisation with leader, heirarchy, rules and codes - not for me. I follow no god, no person, no rules but my own.(generally aligned to polite society)

Give me your best "what the fuck" religion moment!
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 20, 2019:
I was a choirboy, attending 3 churches every Sunday, which took up most of the day - mum and dad liked having 'time alone'. When I was 11 the vicar sermonised about the church needing more money for repairs. I was old enough then to realise that he drove around in a big Rover car, while almost everyone in our village used a bicycle and buses.. that the church owned farms all around the area and lots of other land and buildings. Despite these assets they were asking for more money from everyone in the village who had very little to give. That was when I began questioning the church and within a year cut all ties .... coincidentally it was about that time I became interested in original sin.

Does anyone else struggle with hating religion?
ShadowAmicus comments on Jun 18, 2019:
I do not hate religion, or religious people. One of my closest friends was an army pastor (catholic himself) and we have discussions on morality, ethics, cricket, rugby, horse riding, cooking - usual discourse between adults apart from sex (taboo for catholics). The prescence of god at a battle? If soldiers were helped to get through it by believing in a god - I am fine with it. That both sides claim gods support is enough evidence for me to know he does not exist.
