Most of my life I lived off the government. The USAF gave me a free room, food, clothes, health care, and some spending money. Then the G.I. Bill paid for my college. As a teacher the state and city paid my salary and insurance premiums. I paid into the Teacher Retirement System every month I worked. Now I get a lifetime pension from the state and Medicare. I receive some Social Security. Not as much as I should, but since I receive a pension it is thought by the higher ups (GOP) that it would be double dipping to receive more. I have investments that I seldom dip in to. I have done occasional jobs like substitute teaching and last summer I worked for the U.S Census Dept. Like @LiterateHiker I am enjoying life. Good health, biking, hiking, volunteering, oh..and still playing softball after all these years. I have it pretty good and I know it. Not bragging. I know I have been very lucky. I also along the way made some good decisions.

I grew up with great women in my life. Mother, grandmothers, and aunts. I didn’t know it at the time, but they were teaching me to be a good man. I did simple cooking starting with a grill cheese sandwich and progressing to things I cook today. I needed a button sewed on a shirt, I was taught how. A wrinkled shirt, I was taught how to use an ironing board and iron. Without saying it directly to me I heard them say how to treat a women. When I was married I helped with cooking. As a man I am embarrassed 😳 to admit I never mastered the charcoal grill though. I thank them everyday. My son was raised with the same help from mother, grandmother, aunt, and older sister. ……I like to think I helped some.

As a public school teacher for over 30 years I recited the pledge every school day and always skipped under god. I tell people now days since I said the pledge so much, I am “grandfathered in” and never have to say it again. 😁 BTW I served in the military for six years and do not remember ever saying the PoA. We used to talk about indoctrination by other societies and pretend we don’t do that.
