Venting: Had a nice, fun texting vibe going with a guy for a few days, and we agreed to a first call...
Silver1wun comments on Jun 21, 2018:
Yes, I think it is expecting too much; at least would be for me. You made reasonable, rational attempts to continue contact and as you described, 'crickets'. Given that we're all relative strangers with no in person contact, to me, it is eloquent and the very benefit sought and appreciated from participation in this site. Loss of interest at this level is almost as much to be celebrated as growing interest. Better focus on people with whom friendships might be cultivated on the basis of common interests is facilitated by messaging 'mind contact' that I think saves a lot of time and energy required for an actual meeting. Another way I like to put it is that it saves a lot of 'frog kissing' both ways. :) I've had interesting text exchanges with many women. Direct conversations disclose how we think; as opposed (for me) to what we think. 'What one thinks' without regard to why, it is an instant flag for me of probable ideological indoctrination; a state of mind functionally identical to theological indoctrination. Conversely, messaging discloses things about me that might be important to initially interested women that move beyond mere atheism that send up flags for them. For examples: An attitude that also rejects rituals of all kinds, a lack of typical respect for, or pursuit of, wealth. Seeing no value in some superficial things like jewelry, fashion, body marking and piercing matters to many women. Rejecting many social mores (gender role related) for both males and females. An opinion that women are our 'kind's' natural leaders is a BIG ONE because it contains a minimum expectation of parity in reciprocals instead of expecting the male exclusively taking the lead. Arrest of interest at any point in the cyber process is a good thing. :) I like the sound of crickets at this level because continuation probably wouldn't have resulted in establishing friendship; especially friendships with intimate bonding potential. If a woman can't think for herself and isn't self-assured enough to initiate or maintain her half of contact I'm not interested anyway. Shouldn't it work both ways? If more men had attitudes similar to this, women would be freed from the discomfort of premature, unwanted advances.

Listening to 'news'? Nope, listening to propaganda about something that is not new in qualitative terms and about an impending 'trade war' also erroneously blamed on Trump. The news isn't being covered. The news is going on in House Chambers where the utter politicization and corruption of the highest levels of the FBI are being clearly revealed in Inspector General testimony about the report released. The deep-state fabricators of propaganda and distraction want it that way. The blind sycophantic consumers of a phony scandal a week club sop it up hungrily to feed a bottomless appetite for substitute, ear tickling 'facts' as valid as their safe-zone shared fantasies. Trump was chosen under our system (which is NOT a Democracy and never has been). Losers whine. That's what they do when they are losers before the contest even begins; when they choose losers for leaders. Not Trump's fault, not the Russians' fault, not Stormy Daniels' fault nor is it anybody's fault but the losers. Losing is what they do. Just wait. It gets better! In November the winners are going to win again and the losers are going to lose again. It's how they 'roll'.

Good and bad are subjective and extremely limited. I prefer life affirmative and life negating or various other ways to describe opposing forces in nature and the natures of our kind. I am suffering from depression at the moment
Silver1wun comments on Jun 19, 2018:
Depression is a symptom with causes that vary, somewhat like anemia. Without knowing anything about a person, even a wild guess seldom hits the mark. I used to get depressed once in awhile. It was usually the easily identifiable kind called 'anger turned inward' unrelated to things like disability or addictions. Anger happens pretty commonly as a result of frustration from unrealized expectations, sometimes exascerbated by ingratitude. I found one good remedy by accident. Suffering depression after walking away from everything material connected with a marriage many years ago; I was riding a bus to work and was running late. Sitting there silently cursing the buses for always being behind schedule it happened! The beeping sound! Whenever the bus was taking on a person in a wheelchair a little platform SLOWLY extended. The driver had to get out of his/her seat, wrestle the chair into place, secure it with a belt and then FINALLY resume driving! Boy was I pissed now being even later.. Suddenly while regarding that poor young soul bound to a chair, I felt internally embarrassed and really ungrateful. Would I ever in ten lifetimes switch places with him? Being merely late for work shrunk to insignificance. Loss of my car, house and the illusion of them being meaningful at all disappeared; especially knowing that I, unlike the other passenger, would be able to replace them soon. During the rest of the ride new eyes recognized others on that bus with physically apparent barriers that I didn't have. It has stayed with me as a reusable remedy in times of frustration. I've learned that anger management is mis-named. Actually expectation management and gratitude management head-off necessity for it. That includes anger at self. My case as mentioned was about depression not complicated by other issues.
Today.

Too much information is more of a burden when we store it indiscriminately. I've found that carrying around lots of information about things that are not so vs. actual knowledge - information about things that are so, the load is much more easily managed. Consider how much lighter and freer it was after having uloaded theological myths. It gets even easier by shedding many social mores attached to the erstwhile myths. Divesting oneself of political myths is even better! Information (knowledge) necessary for such evolution is a bit difficult to acquire sometimes but it DOES lighten the 'overload'.

Silver1wun comments on Jun 18, 2018:
Your worst 'enemy' of the natural process of attracting someone worth the investment is WORRY. It is a destructive emotion that will cause you to settle, as in cash-in chips in a game that seems risky to continue just when it is beginning to work. Take the energy wasted in worry and invest it examination and improvement of you. Self love and especially loyalty to self coming from it will make you your best guardian while 'giving off' the most accurate appearance of your self to others. It takes time and courage to avoid distractions like physical or material attractions IF what you want is to have ultimate compatibility and longevity. If you have to 'kiss a lot of frogs' you're kissing way too soon. Also, if what we love only includes our best foot 'put forward', there's still work to be done. When we wholly love and respect ourselves leading with a best foot will feel disingenuous. ....and a bit too worried.
Love or in-love?
Silver1wun comments on Jun 18, 2018:
In just about every application of the verb 'falling', it is something undesirable, often injuring and always in error; frequently occurring in the midst of haste and inattentiveness. Why falling when applied to discovery of love is a positive is some mystery; especially because the phenomenon so glowingly described shows the same results. If a solid, intimate, well thought out and felt relationship is to eventuate, falling just doesn't seem to be a desirable element. Attraction should be cultivated rationally, over time. This optimizes the ability to develop familiarity, depth of respect, affection, trust and real love of a person; not just want of them for how they look or what they possess or what kind of commitment can be secured as a substitute for 'trust'. Falling in love is one of many myths that remain with people even long after they've disposed of belief in other more obvious myths like religions.
This feels true to me.
Silver1wun comments on Jun 18, 2018:
This sentiment is well founded. Social attitudes toward development of a strong, lasting intimate bond are antithetical to it occurring naturally. There is no such thing as 'fast food' yet cutting to the chase out of impatience, before we even know what we're chasing, just to allay anxiety and feelings of emptiness are the rule, not the exception. There is no abundance, no 'shelf-life' what we accept in the rush is often the best available from both sides in the drive-thru, good or not. And oh how exasperating to discover when we're back on the freeway that some items ordered or expected aren't in the bag! No fault finding in this, save destructive conditioning by society and it's (male dominated) institutions.

Who has/had the best singing voice of all-time? My vote goes to Whitney Houston.
Silver1wun comments on Jun 17, 2018:
Without criteria on which to base such judgment answers are merely opinion and sentimental. There are two different fundamental bases upon which to evaluate best voice that don't even include elements like phrasing and emotional emphasis. Who can say who is the best? Artists are different in so many ways from one another. Many play an instrument with great virtuosity. I ask do they play the instrument or do they play music? The voice is an instrument through which one can render musical performances. I ask are they using musical compositions to demonstrate instrumental virtuosity or applying virtuosity to a composition in order to render music. A great voice is one that renders not only well practiced instrumental gymnastics but one that honors composer, piece and audience. That said, who can compare with Ella?

We are on a worldwide stage, showing how agnostics and atheists think and live, and laugh and play.
Silver1wun comments on Jun 16, 2018:
Thinking of non-believers in terms of community feels a bit confining. I share no sense of anything with other infidels except the intellectual waters we've chosen for habitat. It's sort of like salt vs. fresh waters with the brackish waters in-between for agnostics. Rejecting salt doesn't mean that there aren't still a lot of strange fish in the area with whom there is little of anything different to note than when they were in 'the sea'. One example is an entirely common delusion among non-believers that rejection of gods is more than evidence of the *possibility* that one thinks independently. Most of them are still uncomfortable with self-navigating and still prefer moving about in 'schools'; comforted and secure by schools of 'like-minded' fish. Like mindedness is, in fact, often mentioned as a desirable trait in others. Independent, critical thought avoids such safe-zones; seeking rather like interested with differing perspectives to share and compare. It is how learning happens.
I had an epiphany today.
Silver1wun comments on Jun 15, 2018:
The first 'order of business' in learning why and how former attachments failed to meet expectations is to own our part in it. I truly believe that no person can be more than half culpable for failure in a process wherein both parties voluntarily participate. Until or unless honest self-examination is done, responsibility is accepted and forgiveness of both self and the other happen, most people will continue to fail, blame other people's flaws and repeat the process. Some hallmark errors are being distracted by what we perceive to be beautiful and desirable (the storybook falling in love) to the extend that beautiful, unrealistic fantasies are fabricated - both ways. We fixate on this early paclaging and shut-out conflicting perceptions with the erronious notion that the 'love' is stronger and little things can be tolerayed or overcome. Later, as the fantasies beging also 'falling' we find another wrong notion to 'save' what was thoight to be so wonderful called 'working on the relationship'. I liken it to proverbial 'hanging of wall paper with one arm' in a room with two different sets of wall sizes. Relationsjips, as they ate called, like this are never more importamt than the people comprising them. Genuine bonds can be formed if the work is done on the front end, patiently, with love of self and the other and two sets of eyes wide open . No substitute for time exists for some processes. Ask any good cook.

More effective for some problems, like most modalities; including Western Medicine orthodoxy that is symptom focused. At first meeting or before gives the other person the kind of trust that will be vital to anything worthwhile eventuating. If the information 'wards off', so be it. Sooner the better to save time and emotions. I start right out revealing as many potentially 'negative' facts about myself as possible at first meeting or before. (as in bio) If people have a problem with you being you to begin with, that is good! One less set of problems down the road. Healing and reconstruction of psyche take time. One might believe damage to have been overcome but proof is in how you reach out to others. Most aren't going to be forthcoming anyway, unfortunately. Lead by example and just 'spill it'. Love yourself for it.

Who knows about lines, etc..? One can love completely and still find that love alone cannot fulfill what is necessary for sexual intimacy. Feelings like admiration, 100% trust, unconditional respect for their autonomy, physical attraction, unquestionable honesty, self-love and more are necessary to eliminate barriers to sexual sharing and surrender. We can dearly love people who don't love themselves; who hold themselves in less than the highest esteem; who are damaged so that they are incapable of trusting another human being and more. Those kinds of deficiencies don't make them evil, unlovable or undeserving of love sympathy or compassion, but they certainly CAN disqualify eligibility for sharing a sexually intimate bond. In those kinds of cases, love indeed, is not enough.
Weird morning.

Most of all how grateful I am that the Bible revealed for me how false, evil and corrupt men who hawk religions are. Jealousy. Is it a lack of self-esteem on the part of the jealous person?
Silver1wun comments on Jun 12, 2018:
Jealousy is very destructive to loving, trusting bonds. It is symptomatic of distrust and lack of thorough understanding of another person primarily. Secondarily, it is proprietory; disclosing a sense of 'ownership' of another person and requirement that the other person's joy in the living of life isn't acceptable unless it comes from the title holder. I'm not talking about sexual or other kinds of infidelity as defined between people, even though that might cause deep disappointment and painful regrets. Disappointment can be equally painful upon discovery that one you trust implicitly in all sitiations doesn't have reciprocal trust in you or doesn't feel joy at your happiness unless it comes only from them.
Ever been out on a first or second date with someone, and awkwardly ran into either one of your ex's...
Silver1wun comments on Jun 12, 2018:
I wouldn't find it to be awkward at all. Good people can be in the status popularly labeled 'ex' as it relates to a sexual basis. With maturity and growth of respect and appreciation for all of life; especially good people, I've learned that relationships can morph. Our relationships with friends and family do it all the time. There, to me, is no sound reason that loving bonds with others shouldn't be subject to the same changes when and if changes occur externally or intimately that call for said morphing. For examples: We dearly love and are bonded with our children and siblings and parents. Over time, life's seasons gradually change the natures of those loving relationships in many ways; almost all of which don't call for rejecting those loved ones entirely or permanently; even if we disagree with some of their choices. The dearest woman in this world to me is now in a very enriching and better intimate one with another man who is also a wonderful person. Our relationship morphed over a period of about 13 years into one that remains close; not unlike those of life-long friends, close siblings, close cousins etc. The whole 'ex' principle is something imposed on us before we even have a chance to evaluate it in natural or more objective ways. Why? Because it is yet another cruel, wasteful, vindictive and pathogenic aspect of our male dominated, double-standard, business deal society. It is the principle of 'throwing our the baby with the bathwater' founded solely on pride and perceived 'standing' in the views of others.

What is common knowledge to most Israelis, we are oblivious to. That is 'Greater Israel'. Political Zionist fanatics (those now in full control the government) aren't going to be satisfied with taking all of Palestine. They already occupy parts of Lebanon and Syria and are in possession of virtually all of Palestine in one way or another; such as blockade... Greater Israel includes large portions of Syria, Iraq, all of Jordan and Sinai all the way to Egypt. Making Assad look like a mass murdering tyrant in the Western press is vital as a pretext for attacking Syria and creating yet another 'power vacuum' in the region; giving an excuse for Israel, with support vassal states (the FUKUS triumverate of France, UK and US) to fill-in the vacuum... Jordan has been 'riding the tiger' for decades and will probably be the last portion to be absorbed. Not sure whether it will play-out in this way, but it has been moving in that direction for almost 18 years. Vassal states, one might ask? After all, 'tiny' Israel is hardly as powerful as a feudal lord. I answer, that it depends on what KIND of power is wielded. Governments dependent upon an electorate ( a real one, not a counterfeit one as in Israel ) are also dependent upon what the population thinks of them to get elected. And, I'd add, raising enough money to get elected. What the populations 'think' is mostly, that margin being all it takes to get elected, a matter of what appears in press and popular entertainment media. Anyone want to consider a scenario in which a person in our country would be elected to ANY office if they were publicly critical of the behavior of the state of Israel?

Do you go to church just to keep the peace?
Silver1wun comments on Jun 12, 2018:
Oh, your question reminded me of a fling I had many years ago with an older woman of 33. She lamented some men who were on the obnoxious side that she wasn't really interested in but who 'hounded' and wouldn't go home or go away at the end of an 'evening'. She told me that she just let them 'have their way' to get rid of them. This going to church to suit others bears some interesting similarity. Keep the peace. Monday is only tomorrow. Or: "Close your eyes and think of England?"
There is no agnostic vs. atheist! The peeve I have...

The 'label' for you is the same as the one for everyone else. "YOU" it is distinctive and beautiful and all YOU need. Leave labeling to others. Any time you take a position on ANY issue, they will label you in a 'New York Minute'! I feel your pain as an individual but also am aware of the prevalent notion that we must label ourselves in order to let others know where we fit in the constellation of 'isms' and herds swirling about us. Don't bother. The cattle will ignore you anyway and label you based on whether you seem at the moment to be friend or foe. Agnostics and atheists share skepticism. The rest is window dressing. Or, if there are really gods, 'adjusting deck chairs'. :)

What's the worst epidemic of our time?
Silver1wun comments on Jun 11, 2018:
Addiction is the most widespread disease. Most will read that statement and understand it in narrow, mechanistic frames of reference. Addiction defined functionally is an acquired dependence on artifice; on substitutes feeding secondary drives that exist because satisfying primary drives is, for any of many reasons, not an option. We abuse ourselves and our natures routinely and with the ready assistance of others who are 'pushers' of substitutes. Addictions are far from limited to things like brain altering substances, compulsive activities like consuming pornography, sex addictions, 'adrenalin' addictions and gambling. Our brains are much more broadly abused by acceptance of 'isms' contrived by others that substitute for, or allow us to abdicate, our natural incumbency as thinkers and reasoners on individual level. People also get 'hooked' on endorphin stimulating religious rituals and mass political ideologies and movements. Artifice has literally taken over what used to be human artistic expression and performing. It has happened to music and graphic arts. Computers produce in water torture perfection sounds and graphic images that once came exclusively from people. Generated voices run by machines express words of regret and apologize to us as thought they possessed real emotions. The effects of this disease are seen in withdrawal and dissociation from what is real to the point where people, particularly the young, actually have difficulty with 'connecting with others' and discerning differences between real and artificial, functionally. We are all dependent of technology and the easy short-cut artifice it delivers. Has anyone gotten on the freeway lately and discovered they've left their phone at home?

Silver1wun comments on Jun 10, 2018:
We are saturated with malignant integration that has strangled and nearly asphyxiated individual thought and reasoning. The danger comes from both Left and Right. If one considers the ways in which "public education" has morphed into regimented indoctrination it is a huge clue to at least one of the causes. Younger people don't possess the perspective of those of us who developed relatively free of such captivity. Society has always afflicted the young with mores, most of religious origin, withing which we could navigate as individuals. Today? There is no tolerance on the fringes of the Left or Right for differences or criticism. Another thing that both kinds of fanaticism demonstrate that is most threatening to personal liberty is willingness to violate Constitutional principles and protections in any ways necessary to advance their respective ideologies. At least the Left is more honest about it; stating their contempt for the document and the philosophy upon which it rests. The theological fanatics on the Right swear they cherish the Constitution until it gets in the way of theocratic nonsense they wish to make into public laws punishing and limiting the liberty of others. Nowhere is it required for people to 'belong' to ANY political party or to be exclusive wards of this or that ideology as a requirement for validity of personal ideas and reasoning. One can agree with one herd on one issue and with the other on a different issue and be equally hated and indicted as a dupe or loved as a sage. It's disgusting. Fortunately, NEITHER PARTY OR FRINGE ever elects our chief executive. They only comprise about 40 + or - % respectively of the electorate anyway. The only control they have is over who gets nominated while we in the middle determine which of their choices stinks less than the other. Last election, the process escaped them a bit and even though the winner is about as corrupt and opportunistic as any compromised, pedigreed politician, they are in full panic because they can't get a handle on him. Very entertaining to watch. The national hiring process of choosing a leader has degraded to hero worship or hatred akin to the archaic 'Punch and Judy' puppet shows.
In the early stages of going out with someone, how much do you notice what clothes they're wearing?
Silver1wun comments on Jun 10, 2018:
This goes directly to the old adage about 'putting your best foot forward'. If a person leads with that best foot 24/7/365, the advice is unnecessary. And, if not, it is mildly to severely disingenuous. When the impression we make is superior to what one is likely to see on or in us on a regular basis, the only direction left is down, as in downhill. I try to be every-day appropriate for the occasion and activity. Too much dressiness or grooming can be a distraction early-on, from focus on what the person is about. Obviously if there is a mutuality of interest and an activity is chosen to share that calls for dressing up, one does the 'best foot' thing. In our society, this is yet another maxim that doesn't stand the of reason. It isn't that beyond cleanliness and good grooming, attire doesn't matter. Too much too soon is like another old adage about 'crossing bridges before getting to them'.

Silver1wun comments on Jun 10, 2018:
Species benefit is realized as the natural outcome of individual benefit. Every idea, invention, innovation, ennobling work of art and philosophy originated with some individual somewhere. Every thwarting of or destruction of these products and often individuals themselves originates with group or group leadership interests. Each person is an element in the compounds/molecules called societies. Thinking and reasoning faculties are the most significant attributes our kind exhibits. Collaboration in advancement of anything of value cannot happen without individual contributors. Individuals, however, can advance new and valuable ideas without collaboration. It is said that 'the whole is always greater than the sum of it's parts'. Without the parts upon which the whole depends for existence, it is nothing.
You have to make love to my mind.
Silver1wun comments on Jun 10, 2018:
Not the way I'd put it, but the priority is shared. Without first getting to know and become fascinated with another person's mind, from where is the deep attraction to come? My view of 'making love' is that it isn't a process of giving or taking, but one of sharing. In the same way, sharing of minds that leads to mutual pleasure, excitement and anticipation of 'what's next' is the ONLY way to achieve emotional attraction to go with whatever might be physical. Without admiration, respect and affection developing as people become closer, knowing another person and trusting are impossible. We are thinking and reasoning creatures; defined by it more than any other attribute. Of course the road to real intimacy must be navigated by sharing of minds. The brain isn't a toy. I'm reminded of an old margarine commercial (knew the lady) that ended with "It's not NICE to fool Mother Nature!" For me it has to be two-way, all of the way. Without the feeling of sharing being* wanted*, authentic intimacy is personally impossible. I don't care how she looks or how 'willing' she is. It takes more or it's a waste of time and energy. Being close social acquaintances enjoying interests and activities together with many women and them with many men is where it will arrest. Trust (my definition) is shared in all ways. That is, no single party can be 100% responsible for a perceived breach. Half of trust is self-trust; as in confidence in one's own assessment of the other's character and parameters of conduct. Deception cuts both ways in almost all cases. It is vital to really* see who the other person is* without conjuring of fantasies or ignoring of telltale discrepancies; to trust mutual honesty in being emotionally and mentally naked with one another without reservations before the first garment goes off. (well, maybe an exception for shoes) Can people enjoy sexual intimacy with less? They do all the time. Who hasn't? We live in a world of more sophisticated artifice than was even imaginable a generation ago. Short-cuts and instant 'gratifications' and their pitfalls are everywhere. Speaking of pits, so are sensations of emptiness in the pit of one's stomach in place of fulfillment; of almost immediately seeking more because there can never be enough of substitutes. Intimacy without mental and emotional elements allowing complete surrender eases pressure but offers no repose.
So women in western countries can sue for unwelcome hugs and looking at them while using the same ...
Silver1wun comments on Jun 9, 2018:
No egalitarian society can have one set of laws for one kind of people that doesn't apply to all. Neither women nor men should have privileged, segregated status. This seems on the surface to be ridiculous. Unwelcome touching of any kind is rude and presumptuous but hardly civilly actionable.
The Atheist movement has changed since the days of Christopher Hitchens (hallowed be his name).
Silver1wun comments on Jun 9, 2018:
Though voting support for the second statement, I strongly disagree with the notion that a 'movement' is either desirable or necessary as the means of thwarting theological fanaticism. Theologies are themselves movements within which people are organized by self-appointed, self-aggrandizing males issuing theologically based 'marching orders'. Rejection of gods and presumptuous men claiming to represent them is an individual choice. What theological and political manipulators (in the forms of movements) fear most isn't as much rejection as the assertion of individuality at it's root. They are in fact rather comfortable with sheep rejecting one herd and choosing another as a given; as a matter of competition that in no way jeopardizes the herd system. Among atheists, since it is merely rejection of gods, many different reason based notions about our reality can thrive and find common agreements among others with no necessity whatsoever of becoming movements. Some of us might sense or reason as individuals a life energy or even intentionality beyond our grasp. Others might reject those notions. Some fellow atheists also consider ghosts and planetary influences to be possible. Many other ideas abound within the category of those who share only personal rejection of gods. Movement phenomena, if you reflect on them, always have one or more promoters; usually claiming some form of superior knowledge or sagacity with which they deign to license themselves as your 'betters'. It is seduction with sweet sounding ideas around which to rally into a movement that always empowers leaderships and almost always enriches them. The first order of business in any movement is establishing doctrinal (substitute ideological if you will) boundaries within which constituents must volunteer to confine themselves. It is, for me, one of the most disturbing trends among other atheists to see self-appointed gurus of alleged science attempting to define who is and is not a *real Atheist*. Science can be as slippery a basis at times as theology for founding movements, if for no other reason, because these elitist definers of what is and isn't don't stop at defining you. As leaders, they also consider themselves to be arbiters of questions about what is or isn't real science. It is really about establishment of orthodoxies by those who are uncomfortable with too much individuality; too much wrongheadedness, as they see it, displayed by lower forms. Curiously, or maybe not so, these priggish colonizers of your intellectual independence are almost always male.

Silver1wun comments on Jun 8, 2018:
Reminds me of the question: "If I'm (you're) so smart, why ain't I rich?" There is a built-in presumption of an inferior status. We, both sexes, are afflicted as early as possible with sets of unnatural notions by the only gods that exist. Where? Gods have been headquartered, comfortably and conveniently, between the ears of self-deluded, sexually pathogenic old males for the last six millennia. The best and healthiest primary drives in us all and beautiful self-love and love of others are quickly harnessed and redirected to artifice after birth but before full gestation. With or without agents of 'voices in their heads' being single - if naturally functioning - is a good thing; the way we arrive and leave. Being 'rich' also often requires being another kind of creature to please 'the gods'.

Is there anyone here who isn't "into weed?"
Silver1wun comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Your pain is felt by many of us. We live in a world dominated by artifice; a perceived need for which is created from within by altering brain functions with substitutional substances and behaviors. 'Weed' seems to be one of the most popular. Religion qualifies too, as do porn, gambling and political ideological activism; when and if they become addictive and take-over in place of unavailable, genuine things that nourish and satisfy natural, primary drives. Some atheists remind me of reformed alcoholics who rejected liquid spirits and replaced them with increased use of tobacco or weed; of those who reject tobacco only to start eating twice as much and becoming over-weight, etc. People not into weed are hard to find alright. Try finding people avoiding rather than clinging to artifice to satisfy secondary drives and it gets a lot harder. There are more daunting tasks though. Just be glad we aren't cartoons. Being Wile E.Coyote or Elmer Fudd would be a lot tougher.
