How do people within this group define "liberal"?
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 3, 2018:

The one that worships a deity. Straight up whacky.
Regrets. Which is worse? To regret something you have done, or something you haven't done.
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 20, 2018:
Something you haven't I suppose. I don't really regret anything. Even the most terrible experience taught me things. Also not one for impulsive behavior - if I do it I wanted to and didn't care about consequences. So there's nothing to regret or feel guilt/shame for.

Sometimes I think about how much harm religion has done to scientific or just moral progress for the...
Slappy_Longarms comments on Jun 11, 2018:
I'm always undecided on this subject. No doubt religions have caused harm and a lot of it, and need being shed of. But. To assume all would be swimmingly well, progressed or advanced had they not been conceived of is errant I think. We've simply no way of knowing how humanity would have evolve d - we only have a history with them to judge by. And given our history with or without, it isn't beyond reckoning that things could be far worse for those on the sharp end of the stick.
Atheist jewelry? Do you wear any jewelry that IDs you as atheist/agnostic/freethinker, etc?
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 15, 2018:
No. But I do have a box of jewelry - rings, bracelets, pins. Not big on necklaces - don't like things around my neck. Never wear a tie either.
How do you feel when someone gives you sympathy?
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 27, 2018:

Are you a snob? With what subjects/topics? . I am, here are mine: Movies, Coffee, Toilet Paper.

CONFIDING.. HELP OR HINDER?
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 29, 2018:
I'm open generally - I don't mind talking about experiences, feelings, etc. But I don't care much what others think or say, so it works out. I think most people take things as telling them what to do when it isn't really. I only express what works for me, not what I think anyone else should do - unless they specifically ask for advice, and even that is only saying what I would do.

Boundaries
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 27, 2018:
One thing I've always had is a personal code of what I won't tolerate or do. I've had to alter it very little. It has cost some but my internal integrity is more important than what anyone may think, say, or do in response.
What have you always wanted? Did you ever get it?
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 28, 2018:

Let's get to know each other a little more. What was your favorite live music event?
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 24, 2018:
They were all good, but : Now I'm not, nor ever was, much a kiss fan. I saw them open for black Sabbath around 1973 or 4..it remains one of the best shows I've ever seen. They were on the cusp of becoming what they became. It was made more memorable because while they absolutely rocked, Sabbath sucked - they were way to high to be onstage. . Seeing Leslie West live in a small bar was amazing. . Humble Pie 1972 - Steve Marriott was a joy to behold. .. Blue Cheer in small venues just before Dickie Peterson died was great. .. Hot Tuna 1972 small college show was great. .. Some more, but you get the idea.

How many of you also dislike the term “intellectual dishonesty?
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 29, 2018:
Not sure what/how you're using the terms, but I have found many people seem to feel no need for their beliefs to be cohesive. Kind of amusing and aggravating at the same time.

Slappy_Longarms comments on May 7, 2018:
Expectations. Not really.
In your opinion what is the most likely thing that could halt human progress?
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 21, 2018:
Nothing. Progress can be impeded, but not stopped. Given our short life span we have a skewed vision of evolution. But think of where humanity was even 200 years ago. That's roughly three life times. Still sucks in a lot of ways, but obviously many things have improved despite the impediments of some.
To or not to make friends with the new neighbors?
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 6, 2018:

Can pets be "bad",Or are there just bad owners?
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 26, 2018:
I think it's applying human concepts to nonhumans. Other animals have personalities and relationships. Treat them as such and you'll get along. Piss them off and they'll let you know it.
How do you feel about intentions?
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 24, 2018:
In a way it implies belief in a greater granting power - that some force exists that says "yeah, sure, here ya go" based on some nebulous balancing act of life. I don't think it works that way or there'd be no problems for anyone. . Intention within limitation guided by effort. You might make it, you might not.

Lost in Translation

Slappy_Longarms comments on May 30, 2018:
Another : was given a nice antique stiletto. Thought I'd see how well it worked so I roll a newspaper and held it in my hand. You guessed it - stab, stab, stab right through the paper and into my hand. Worse, I had a show to play that night and had to suffer through it.
I just wanted to thank everyone for the great recommendations for my trip to DC.
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 21, 2018:
Back in 1976 ( I was 21 ) I had a wait in DC - traveling by bus. Thought I'd wander to pass the time. Got a block away from the station a black limo pulled up, guy asked did I need a ride. No. Turned and walked. Another guy comes up asking did I want a good time. At that point I decided to wait in the station. . Glad your trip was better.

But then I'm not really " looking to date"....only meet like minded folks. If something cliks from there, so be it....if not, so be it. For me this is just another online group in that respect.

Do you feel any kind of self-restriction in this site?
Slappy_Longarms comments on Apr 27, 2018:
It's as much a dating site as any other group. Random shot at hitting it off with someone if that's what one is looking for. I enjoy reading people's opinions, experiences, thoughts. I like the profile set-up. Variety of topics. Much less antagonistic posting and commenting.

So, I've been listening to this hokie book called Mars and Venus on a date.
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 17, 2018:
The Tyranny of Malice / Joseph Berke A bit repititious, but had me questioning and ultimately altering my approach to situations and assessing others reactions to my being. . Zen Guitar / Philip Toshio Sudo Generally about playing music but a good little read on outlook and how to manage life. "Pick it up. Tune it. Play it." . The unbearable lightness of being / Milan Kundera Just a great book. Film version sucked.

Is it ok if married couples keep secrets from one another?

I am a Facebook user, I have close to 800 people.
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 20, 2018:
I'm pretty selective on FB. I don't accept requests unless I see other mutual names, or get a message. No randoms. The first religious post I see gets that person booted regardless who they are. I also do very little posting or commenting outside the closed groups I'm involved with. It's for my use, not others.
What’s the most frustrating thing about getting older?

Does intelligence lead to atheism?
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 31, 2018:
Not necessarily. Everyone knows some very intelligent folks who believe, and fervently so. The difference is the faith in holy spirit - the hand of a god through woman and man that allows them to suspend an otherwise inquisitive nature. They need it. Others dont.
Do you enjoy music that has a lot of brass in it?

Do you value empathy?
Slappy_Longarms comments on May 15, 2018:
I think people are selectively empathetic. Same with other moralistic notions. We choose when to place them, or cast aside. Also think the term sociopath is tossed about far too lightly. Most exhibit sociopathic traits to some extent - it's almost required to live - but sociopath should be reserved for those who truly become it - Bundy, Dahmer, etc.
