Dating in todays society
Sofabeast comments on Nov 28, 2018:
I should like to hope it would be more based on the person, not what is or has been between their legs. As society (USA, Canada, EU & UK) becomes more accepting, this may just become a social norm in the not too distant future. I have seen in the UK over my lifetime, homosexuality go from criminal act, to legal for 21 year olds, then down to 18, then 16. Recently same sex marriage has been legalised. I say good, lets evolve.

Why Do People Contact Profiles That State the Opposite of What They Are!?!?
Sofabeast comments on Nov 28, 2018:
I've only had the problem once here. It took a few messages to convince the fellow I'm a man, seeking a woman. Even the full beard in a photo didn't seem to slow his attentions. Too many 'hey babe' and 'You're beautiful' messages.

Sofabeast comments on Nov 26, 2018:
The question is worthy of far deeper investigation. Religions don't like it when reason or apathy overtakes them. Too late in the night for me to 'unpack' the sociological aspects as to why masses can be turned out to overthrow the intelligent but not the rich.

Sofabeast comments on Nov 26, 2018:
Consider the bigger picture. By losing a battle deliberately, one may win the war. Following 'losing' to a Redneck, there is now a possessed violin being used to create that bloody awful country music full of tales of depression, infidelity and suicidal thoughts. This music is used to keep the people alienated and in step via line dancing and thus indoctrinated into following what every other person is doing without question. And from this the Capitalist system of evil can prevail by keeping the masses blissfully ignorant of the true beneficial meanings of Socialism and workers freedom. All it costs is a cheap fiddle, probably donated by Walmart!
Do you believe in "soul mates/true love/the one?"
Sofabeast comments on Nov 26, 2018:
Yes, and I miss her dearly. Until meeting June - my late wife, I never conceived of being that close another human being, and she with me. We had an amazingly close relationship from the moment we finally met in 1991, (having missed meeting each other despite being in body contact many times over 9 years) until she died in 2015. I proposed after two weeks and we married inside of months. Old enough to know better, but did it anyway. I wonder if we'd turned around and met face to face, rather than back to back earlier would we have made it 'forever'. As it was, we had a true 'Mills & Boon' love affair and I'm concerned it will cloud me moving on. So far time has not been much of a healer and I am extremely lonely in my 'soul'. I do accept that for many reasons, some people will never find that special person or persons to share their lives with. I did, and better to have loved and lost....
Would English Language die out after 500 years?
Sofabeast comments on Nov 26, 2018:
All languages evolve and eventually disappear, as for the time line, we'll have to wait 501 years. It may be the new 'Latin' by then. Effectively dead, but still used. English is a language than steals from others readily. It helps make a so rich.

Overpopulation – The Root Cause of Our Problems – Why Is It a Taboo Topic?
Sofabeast comments on Nov 25, 2018:
Gloomy bloody subject! I'm a student of Social Sciences - Sociology, Psychology, History, Politics, and a few other things. This question comes up often in our studies. So, I think we are all agreed our population is too great. This viewpoint can be supported by the great migrations from areas of poverty to richer regions. These exoduses have sudden effects on where they arrive, causing alienation of the indigenous peoples and incomers alike as there isn't enough time for integration and assimilation. The earth recently passed the limit of human support with our current level of expenditure of resources. Question is, what can we, or must we do as a species to produce a happy sustainable future? I would not like to see a great 'Exterminatus' forced on us, but that may have to happen, and soon. This may be the most 'humane' way to save us. Who do we choose? And in what way can humanity secure a future where a 'Final Solution' isn't going to be needed again? Reduce the birth rate. Only healthy females get ONE pregnancy no IVF? Maximum age limit - please report to your funeral one week after your 70th birthday? Restrict certain healthcare solutions, Ebola, T3/4 Cancer, Autism, Smoker - say goodbye. Death penalty for many crimes? What about murder? Kill two, get out free? Ask for volunteers - reward their families or them? New car every year until 35, then bye, bye? Not an easy or nice job trying to save the world. As a draconian mind game, very interesting
Sex in the modern world
Sofabeast comments on Nov 25, 2018:
This came up at work last weekend. There is amongst our workforce an age divide. The 18-40s & 45+ crowds. For the younger section, there isn't 'chatting-up' and dating going on. Find a nice picture on the phone, 'swipe right for a mediocre night'! Sex, it would seem is expected within the Peterhead community on the first meeting, and if after a dozen or so sessions, you may get asked for a date or child support in about eight months! Now I will say, when I met my wife, we were in bed with each other inside of 20 mins, married in four months (didn't have to)! She stayed with me for the rest of her life, just over 24 years.

Sofabeast comments on Nov 19, 2018:
The leaf litter falls - hence your name for autumn, and fertilizes the forests. Remove the leaf litter and the habitat will fail. Forest fires are a natural occurrence which are affected by global warming. It isn't a easy fix as mankind expands into the wilds. If the infrastructure could include desalination of the sea, and pumping of water to inland areas where in recent decades the natural water supply has been taken for major cities such as LA, San Francisco, Santa Monica etc, then perhaps that may over time redress the balance. Use renewable energies to supply power to this. Living in a coastal damp cool climate, I find it difficult to imagine what has gone on. Perhaps NASA could show the Idiot in Chief what climate change looks like from space

Should we implement ranked choice voting?
Sofabeast comments on Nov 18, 2018:
The first past the post system is undemocratic and allows for minority rule. It removes the UK and USA from being considered leading democracies on the world stage. British general elections are undemocratic, but Scottish elections which use a transferable vote system is democratic. In the USA, you'll have to grow at least one more political party to be considered truly democratic.

How do you move from cheerfully flirting to being vulnerable?
Sofabeast comments on Oct 23, 2018:
If only I could just pop over the Northern Atlantic for a quick flirt or three! I've enjoyed just a handful of flirts over the past few years. It's nice when it happens, but the ladies are usually attached or just a little too young (thirties). So I head away to void the embarrassment of my vulnerability showing. I did have a few 'close moments' with a lass two years ago, but I wonder if that was just our souls were just playing together. Age and professional attitude would keep me from finding out if it was only me that thought that way. I'm way too cowardly to pursue her now the professional connection has gone.
Religious parents?
Sofabeast comments on Oct 23, 2018:
My father was church of England, but didn't really push anything. He didn't believe in afterlife, heaven or hell. My mother was a Christian, nominally church of England, but added in anything she saw fit from other religious sources such as headscarf in church and letting me know that I should marry a virgin and she must OBEY me as the man! She never obeyed my dad. My mum prayed deeply, but did those prayers of hers ever get answered? She would say that yes, after all, I survived into adulthood. I'm inclined to believe that life finds a way. I came into the world rather early and at home (almost on the night bus from Hounslow to Feltham) weighing in at 3lb 12oz. Now I'm in my mid 50s. My mothers dad was an atheist, one of the few who were in a foxhole at some point. if he had any religion, he may have lost it in Italy, when his battery of 5.5" howitzers flattened a small town the Germans had just vacated. Surely, God would somehow have let the Royal Artillery know not to wipe that place full of civilians off the map. It was stories like that and a sense of reason that woke me up to the truth. I saw how she frantically asked a non-existent god for various salvations from the petty hardships of her life. Perhaps she thought in some way that her prayers helped the German bombs miss her house during the Blitz.

Are You Lonely?
Sofabeast comments on Oct 2, 2018:
I'm damn lonely! During the early autumn things become worse, as this is when I lost my love to her brain tumour back in 2015. She knew I hate being alone, and tried to get me to take a lover before she died. She wanted to check them over to make sure they'd be good for me! Doing that isn't part of who I am. I keep myself busy with a college degree course and working far too many hours. Now at least, I can get to talk people who when hearing my life story don't offer their prayers. June, my late wife, was also a questioner of religion.

Personal experiences are up the people involved. I have only dabbled a little a long time ago. It was fun, and was only that. I cannot say that if I ever find love again I would entertain it. Either way, unless I'm invited to become a swinger, it has nothing to do with, and I refuse to be offended by the activity.

It can be seen as rather uneven ground due to humans rights issues. Perhaps the most important factor is an individual approach. This therapy is not effective with every person with ASC, but I have read of some very positive results when administered by well trained professionals. When I worked for the National Autistic Society UK, it was in effect against working policy. As long as people don't just jump for a non-existent cure via some 'online quack', but use skilled professionals then it may be worthwhile. In the UK, almost all support is free at the point need from the cradle to the grave. Support is given through and paid for by central and local taxation. Most of my wages comes via Aberdeenshire council, with much of service users costs met by the state. An example of this, is the cost. Services to support someone 24/7 per year sits at around £150000. If we look at a young adult who lives for half a century will cost the state vast amounts of money. Would a health insurance company pay this? Not in the UK!

Can science and religion be reconciled?
Sofabeast comments on Sep 14, 2018:
I have a good friend who is perhaps the 'ideal Christian'. He believe that the bible was written by men, and men make mistakes. Ask women about that! And that science is there so we humans (of all sexes) can unravel the mysteries that god has made. We have to evolve further to fully understand what god (genderless) has done. I like his perspective, as science cannot be heretical. For if everything is made by god, then god cannot be a heretic. For me, shame there's no god. I believe in creation. At some point the universe that we live in came about. It may not be the first creation, nor the last. At the moment we just cannot answer that question, only investigate and give the best supporting statement. Which isn't it was knocked up in six days!

Aside from light hearted comments, the human self is amazing. This find not only demonstrates our collective history is earlier than we knew, but adds an indication of cultural development too. It indicates thought and planning through production of pigments, and concept of pleasing designs.

I'll say this to all of you who have ASC/D that are non-verbal. They are unlikely to begin to vocalise after around the age of 6 apart from those wonderful 'eee' noises and deep belly laughs. I have the pleasure of working with these excellent people. I can confirm that they do communicate via many different mediums. Just watch them and enjoy their personal styles of 'talking' to you. Once you tune in to them then it becomes easier. Remember they understand a lot more than many professionals say they can. You just have to be with them. Music, picture cards, drawings, touch, aromas, glances, facial expressions, body positions and postures are all telling you something. They will share a similar sense of humour to their age group. Often this can be a very dry sense of irony and sarcasm - at least in Britain! For me when I finish a shift, I bugger off home but I know it is often a hard journey for you all, be strong and enjoy the good times. When you can, take time for yourselves. If you get support, I hope they are as great as the team as I'm part of. All the best

I am both horrified and uplifted by your story. It is so sad that religion can have such a literal hold on people. I was at church (an evangelical American style one) very recently - (I was working) when the preacher started on about the gramma used in part of the Bible. What he missed with his literal diatribe was, He was speaking English, not Hebrew or Aramaic! Bloody idiot. So young lady, don't just survive, thrive and grow. Read Thomas Paine, call on those Christians and spread the 'bad news'.... Hello, can I save you, as there are no Gods....
I doubt this will make any sense across the pond.

Sofabeast comments on Jul 28, 2018:
Our local Mormons have learn who we are and avoid us. Such as this afternoon walking along Belmont Street in Aberdeen, my daughter and myself saw them approaching people unsuccessfully, but they dodged us. They have encountered us before in street debate giving them the good news that there is no god and here is why.....
What constitutes evidence? What constitutes proof?
Sofabeast comments on May 31, 2018:
There is no proof, it is impossible to prove all statements. All that can be done is provide the best, and most scientific answer at this time. The perception of truth is subjective, no matter how objective we try to be.
Driver Shouts 'Go Back To Your Country Bh' At Asian-American Family | HuffPost
Sofabeast comments on May 31, 2018:
How does one define 'your country'? I'm an immigrant or occupier (I'm English) to some here in Scotland. In the UK, and more so since Brexit this phrase is heard more and more. For the USA, of course, white & black folks are not native to the land, only people from the 100 nations are. So when does a country and culture come into being? The UK and USA are not static cultures, we have absorbed many others since we came to be, and thus our cultures, rules, norms and values constantly evolve.

Enjoy your ice cream, purge the bad memories, enjoy the good, smile and cry. Move on with life, use your amassed experiences to brighten the world and people around you.
Anyone else here involved in ' Street Epistomology' or is this simply an American activity?
Sofabeast comments on May 23, 2018:
There is a lot of this activity in Peterhead, usually on a Saturday morning. The God botherers try to temp the person I am supporting into accepting that they are filthy sinners, and are going to hell! Not a good thing to say to vulnerable adults. I now politely enlighten them that there are NO GODS!

God bless America?
Sofabeast comments on May 16, 2018:
"Reason bless America". Will that do you? Or go back to 'God save the Queen, her heirs and successors'. In thirty years time, we may be coming back with the offspring of Mr & Mrs Windsor for president!
Who is your favorite Atheist?
Sofabeast comments on May 16, 2018:
My daughter. She's in her mid twenties now, so I feel my job is done. She, like myself enjoys engaging with 'God-botherers'. Enlightening them as to the bloody great big holes in their faiths.

The world of Glorantha in original Runequest was fun. It owed a lot to the Ancient world of the Mediterranean.
