SpikeTalon replies on Mar 12, 2023:
@snytiger6 I get your point with the good guys with guns argument, but generally speaking there is a way to differentiate between the good and bad armed people... the former don't go around intimidating or threatening others while the latter do. For example, that shooting at an Indiana mall last summer... bystanders were aware that Elisjsha Dicken was not a threat by how he was acting. As for the argument that more guns will equal more deaths goes, I could make an argument that no guns present by law abiding citizens still equals death, and potentially lots of death. Why do you suppose crazed gunmen almost always pursue places like schools or shopping malls, because they know chances are high they would not be met with any serious confrontation. Given the fact how schools are supposed to be gun free zones, that sure doesn't stop deranged gunmen from opening fire in schools, and when sure situations occur who do we call for help to neutralize the threat? You guessed it, they call for the police, who come equipped with guns themselves to deal with the threat. Sure, that may include death, but that would be the death(s) of a serious threat, so can't say I'd think such deaths would qualify as a tragedy. Even if California has roughly ten percent population of the whole country, if their laws worked as intended then there would be considerably less to no such crimes, but that's not the case. That be your choice as to whether or not to own a gun, and I can surely respect that, but not all of us gun owners own guns primarily for self defense, as there are other reasons for owning them. I have mine mostly for recreational target shooting, and my secondary consideration would be that I'm a collector. Although I do live in a rough city with a considerable rate of crime, for the most part I am not concerned about someone breaking into my residence. Regarding the last part of your comment that property can always be replaced, I have to disagree, there are exceptions. For instance, the box that holds my father's ashes, if someone were to steal that and for some reason I would never have been able to track down who was responsible for that, that item could not be replaced. That's just one example and I probably could think of more. Also, just because you made a choice to not get confrontational with an armed intruder does not automatically mean that you would end up surviving the ordeal. Over the years I've heard of far too many stories of robbery victims complying with the robber's demands only to get shot dead afterwards anyways. It only stands to reason that if someone was bold enough to hold you at gunpoint, they might end up being bold enough to shoot you after they get what they wanted from you. Some armed robbers like that probably don't want to let live...

SpikeTalon replies on Mar 11, 2023:
@snytiger6 That depends on the source one goes by for the information, and according to the neutral and reliable source Statista so far this year there has been technically 13 mass shootings, a far cry from what some of the gun control advocates would have us believe. Those mass shootings you were alluding to above that seemingly occur on a daily basis, as actually random shootings that see less than four deaths and thankully alot of times no actual fatalities at all. I'm going by the Government metric by the way in determining what constitutes a mass shooting and not from sources like the Gun Violence Archive which is a rather slanted special interest group that tends to promote excess fear and paranoia on that subject. It appears the worst mass shooting so far this year occured in California, which has some of the most restrictive gun control laws on the books. When comparing with other countries, also have to keep in mind that alot of them are not dealing with high levels of depression substance abuse and mental illness like our country is, which in turn continues to factor into the random acts of violence that are becoming more common. Per day across the country there are many attacks across the country using other weapons like clubs and knives, yet for curious reasons we don't seem to keep track of those violent acts like we do when guns are involved. Nevermind the fact that with today's technological advances it's far easier for one to craft their own 3D-printed weapons if they have access to the right tools, and books such as the Anarchist Cookbook that are widely available on the Net that instructs people how to make homemade weapons. That, and how relatively easy it is for street gangs to lift weapons from cop cars or local Guard bases, which a number of years ago I knew a few guys who used to do just that. In the end, you can make laws designed to curb random acts of violence committed with firearms, but the criminal element doesn't have much regard for said laws though, and the criminal element along with the rising numbers of cases of mental illnesses has proven to be a bad combination for our country.

Afterall, reading for alot of folks these days is too bothersome, and why read a somewhat lengthy (albeit probably informative) article when you could always opt for a catchy meme instead! We've accomplished quite a bit through meme activism, just look at the progress that was made on women's reproductive rights, and it's not like reproductive rights have been under any sort of serious assault recently, right? Meh what the heck, let's just meme some more and forget about the heavy reading stuff, as I'm positive everything will just work out in the end so no worries who gets elected to positions of high authority. Joking aside, this post introduced me to The Cut, had never heard of them before. Upon doing a little research on them, it appears they may be a bit of a sketchy source at times- https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-cut/ That said, the point raised in the article linked to above did raise a valid concern, and one that was obviously not heeded. For sure, Biden's past record on abortion rights has been less than desirable, and if I'm not mistaken he recently made a questionable comment on that matter, which makes one wonder just how friendly he truly is towards that important individual right.

Someone(s) who craft roadside bombs with the intention to kill many others sounds rather terroristic to me. As for the part on her fighting for every American's individual rights... that was in her own words about a year or so before she was killed, and she was talking about our Constitutional rights, both numerated and unenumerated rights at that. For example, Ashly absolutely abhorred selective abortion procedures, yet she still thought she was doing the right thing and believed everyone had the right to make their own decisions regardless if whether or not she may have disagreed. As for the last part of your comment, easier said than done, and the politicians who were responsible for such catastrophic decisions are well shielded from prosecution and also mere criticism for the most part. I'm not one of those people who ignores the veterans who are struggling to survive after they get out of the Armed Forces, and in the past have donated generously to a local rescue mission helping homeless vets. Of course, that sort of terrible thing is bound to happen when the Government gets final say on such matters, widespread abuses. The politicians from both the Democratic and Republican Parties should lose their comfy jobs and go straight to jail, but that's not going to happen anytime soon though.

@puff That's because the country is now in lockdown due to the continuing conflict, and to think none of that would have even occured if Putin hadn't invaded Ukraine to begin with. Putin started the conflict, and Zelensky wants to end it, sounds like fair play to me. When it comes to being a homicidal madman, Zelensky is a fuzzy Playboy bunny compared to what Putin is capable of.

Afterwards, and not sure if you can get this for PS3 or not, but the Deus Ex game mod Revision is also highly recommended. Actually, think I'd recommend the original F.E.A.R. before DX Human Revolution even. The prequels and the sequel for Deus Ex fell dreadfully short of the creativity of the original. DX Invisible War was the worst one. F.E.A.R. had an interesting mix of first-person shooting action with elements of the paranormal, never played a game quite like that one before.

You're right about the mafia stuff, and my grandfather was friends with a few of them. My mother once told me a story about a fifteen year old girl she knew at the time (who also came from an Italian family) who was raped and murdered by two hispanic men who were working a seasonal job on a local farm, and both of those men disappeared without a trace and were never heard from again. And yeah, I agree Olive Garden sucks.

@glennlab Yes, Minds Chat, which is a division of the social media site Minds.com, and both are frequently maintained by the site Admins. Messaging on there is end-to-end encrypted, and does not consume much data. Used to be another good site/app called RiotIM, but that went defunct now. Some years back had assisted a friend who was a volunteer clinic escort at the Allentown PA Planned Parenthood at the time set up a private chat support group for patients to keep in touch with each other. Over the years the Allentown PP has been a target of radical anti-abortion protesters, especially on Saturdays, and giving patients and clinic staff a way to constantly interact with each other in private and plan their moves accordingly when going to appointments proved to be helpful.- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIizCkJ-We4 Had thought about starting such a group on Minds Chat assuming I could get enough aboard with the idea. Had run that idea by Pralina last summer, and in case some politicians ever get the idea and somehow manage to pass legislation making all abortion procedures illegal at the federal level, such messaging sites would probably prove to be quite useful for underground networking at that point. Minds Chat supports both general public feed groups and private groups by invite only supporting dozens of members. More options to customize the groups on there than on here, and even public groups could be set to invite only. Matrix Protocol messaging- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_(protocol) On a side note, the current Secretary of State Antony Blinken has an account on Minds Chat and also once did on Minds.com, and looks like he's still a member in one of the groups I host.

Apparently alot of people who live in the surrounding area have some type of diabetes, the endo's office is often very busy. That means people like me usually are the ones that end up waiting long in favor of helping those quickly who are on Government care. Swelling is not as severe as it once was, and when at home I can prop my foot up and that usually helps with the swelling. Probably some nerve damage in that leg from the time I was first diagnosed, the peripheral nerve in the left leg, still have little to no feeling in the upper outer side part of that leg. Also went for alot of tests on that issue, and pretty much nothing the doctors could do about it.

@Pralina1 I hate the Lantus as well, was better off on Toujeo. I agree on that part with sending some people to their deaths, and that's due to how the current system is setup, time wise. A PA should take no longer than 12 hours to fully process. That sounds like a particular insurer is bad when it comes to PAs, and I've heard no shortage of stories of people who are on Medicare etc having problems with that. That's quite a problem with the crackheads, and somehow doubt new laws will actually do anything to curb such behaviors. I understand, and feel sorry for you and any other in the healthcare field who has to deal with people like that. I do those things every day, and especially have to with the feet as the one foot remains consistently swollen. Doctor suspects blood vessel damage in that foot when I was first diagnosed, and in the near future will have to go for more testing. I'm hanging in there, blood sugars have been somewhat unpredictable recently, unexplained sudden ups and downs, and doctor thinks stress is most likely a big factor there.

Now that you've reached level nine, you get to join the secret society. We're glad you're on here as well.

@Pralina1 I'm humbled by your kind words, and much thanks. I try my best to remain civil and openminded to all views, and to treat everyone fairly. In a way, I'm glad that not everyone on this site is like me when it comes to social or political views, and diversity of thoughts and beliefs are a good thing. For what it's worth, and this may very well be an Italian thing as my mother's side of the family were all like this, but in my teens into early adulthood I was hotheaded too with a short temper, but since then have mellowed out a bit more and take things in better stride now. You're far removed from being a cunt of the sorts, and your temper doesn't fool me one bit, deep down inside I know you have a heart of gold who seeks to help out others in need, and someone who is looking for solutions to our problems. Ah yeah, the tech-related posts... trying to work on more of them in what little spare time I have to be on here, and pretty soon may be shifting careers into the field of cybersecurity. Thank you for dealing politely with my posts that are political in nature in which I have to rant a little, the fighting from both sides of the political aisle get to be too much for me after awhile, and recently have drifted away from certain groups on here (namely the hardcore progressive and conservative groups) due to the rather hostile nature of the posts in favor of the more lighthearted groups. Always good to hear from you, and also good to hear that you've been doing okay. Take care, later.
