Since no one else in this group did a post yet on the following, figured I'd take a crack at it.
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 28, 2022:
To any new visitors to this post, I wanted to be clear on something there... I was alluding to the well known leftwing sources specifically, which is why I only linked to such sources above, and apologize for the misunderstanding on that, as I should have been clearer on that. My general question still stands though, that being I want someone to give me a logical and reasonable explanation as to why the sources I had linked to above did not post any photos of the shooter even though his identity was already known at the time those articles were published, and most of the known rightwing sources had no problem in posting photos of the shooter? That said, I don't honestly expect any member of this group to acknowledge the discrepancy I was trying to point out, because in the end political correctness will win out, and no one else will have the courage to ask the difficult questions as I did. Much easier to go along to get along and not ask too many questions where the mainstream media sources are concerned, even though enough evidence has been presented to make a case for slanted/questionable reporting from the medias.

If America goes fascist next month, what do you predict? Short term? Long term?
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 27, 2022:
It already is overrun with fascists, who call themselves Democrats and Republicans, and their fascist influence has been going on now for decades. As for how much longer that will go on, I suspect for many more years to come, as there aren't enough citizens out there these days who channel the political views of the late George Carlin. We're screwed, and not in the ideal way at that.

SpikeTalon comments on Oct 27, 2022:
Didn't come to this site looking to date, but there are a few women on this site who are older than me whom I do admire. Go for it, and don't pay attention to what others may think about your choice in romantic partners. I once dated a woman 24 years older than myself, and had quite a good time. Live your life according to your wishes, and not the desires of another.
Are there actually any other true political centrists here?
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 27, 2022:
As for your first question, while today's political standards/definitions would place me just right of center, I've long considered myself a classic liberal centrist, or what nowadays would be known as being libertarian. Both extremes concern me. Anyways, as for Fetterman... I'm from Pennsylvania and next month will be able to cast a vote for either him or his opponent Dr. Oz, and as a Pennsylvanian who has been keeping a close eye on that Senate race I could tell you with relative certainty that Fetterman is bad off mentally speaking. The stroke he suffered months back has and continues to affect him negatively, but of course his supporters do not wish to acknowledge that reality. Can't say I trust Oz either for that matter, but at the least he's not mentally defective, so... The Democratic Party should have found someone to replace Fetterman, but stubborness won out in the end. As for your second question on there being any true progressive leftwing folks on this site, I take it that was just a joke question right? I'd venture to say where the American membership of this site is concerned, a good majority on this site would fall under the progressive firebrand category, lol.

Be assured you're not on Candid Camera or anything like that, and that afterwards I won't go around making fun of you behind your back based on how you answer. Just wanted to know your honest take on that, and thought I'd ask you directly as opposed to assuming to know your position on the matter.

SpikeTalon comments on Oct 26, 2022:
When it comes to American politics, for the past five or so decades now all we've been doing is trading one crooked moron for the next even more so crooked moron, and on and on it goes with no end in sight. In 2008 we elected a con artist for President. That wasn't bad enough though, as in 2016 we elected to President an egotistical con artist with a fake tan. Now, the most recent Presidential Election saw a senile gaffe-ridden con man get elected President. I agree with @TheInterlooper below, both major political parties are crooked beyond belief, and it's high time to stop pretending otherwise. I take it you understand the difference between talking and or coming up with a plan(s), and then actually acting on said thoughts and plans, right? While I can agree with you that the Republican Party has no viable longterm solutions to the problems we face aside from defending certain constitutional rights, the Democratic Party hasn't done much of anything either to improve things in the country despite claiming to have all of these plans of action. Let's start with healthcare. Other than the DP always talking about how healthcare is a fundamental right and every citizen should get access to it regardless if they could afford it or not, what exactly have they done in the nearly last two years to deliver on that promise? Short answer, not alot. Still too many Americans cannot afford visits to the local hospital or their prescription medications. Minority populations are still underserved. The cost of healthcare keeps going up. Obesity is still very much a concern, along with Covid. One bright spot, they managed to cap the price of Insulin for those on Medicare, but then again former President Trump also proposed similar legislation in the summer of 2020, so that idea is hardly exclusive to the Ds. Let's look at the federal budget for a moment. Our country is presently $31 trillion in debt, and who pray tell do you suppose contributed to a large chunk of that sum? I know the RP contributed a sizable amount of said debt from their military industrial complex, the constant and needless wars they had gotten us into, but what about the rest? The DP aren't exactly known for being fiscally responsible, and spend taxpayer dollars worse than a drunken sailor on leave. According to Statista the US has given Ukraine over $55 billion in support, not even counting all the weaponry we had supplied to Ukraine. Now, I sympathize with the Ukrainian people's plight as much as you do, and would love nothing more than for the bloodthirsty tyrant Putin to just keel over dead, but where do we draw the line on handing out the taxpayer dollars to other countries, especially knowing that we could use alot of that money here to help better our own country? It's simply not a...

After watching the Fetterman and Oz debate, I’m thinking Biden has had a previous stroke.
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 25, 2022:
Listened to that debate too, Pennsylvanian here. Fetterman stuttered too much, didn't directly answer some questions, and tried to talk over Oz when it was Oz's turn to speak, which speaks volumes about the type of individual Fetterman is. Me thinks Oz won that debate.
Probably a tad mean , but hey .
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 25, 2022:
I'm voting for Oz in Pennsylvania. Believe me when I say Fetterman is screwy, and also probably racist.
Is America becoming a banana republic?
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 24, 2022:
To answer your first question, yes, and both the Democratic and Republican Parties are in on that, with some outside help from China. As for violence goes, don't kid yourself, both political extremes promote what could be considered violent rhetoric. Only difference there between the two political extremes, is that the one extreme is more open and direct about their rhetoric on the matter (think promoting the next civil war on online forums etc), whilst the other tends to go about that in a sneakier and more subtle manner. As for the compromise part goes, I rather doubt it, as neither extreme shows a genuine desire to compromise in good faith. To believe anything less would be naive.

@azzow2 Also, after the parade I swung by our old high school and snapped a photo, you might not recognize it though, it's gone through renovations since our school days. That town hasn't appeared to have changed much, still a one-horse town, and the parade over the last five or so years now has been rather lame and too short. The recent parade was less than thirty minutes long, I kid you not, it has gotten that lame unfortunately. Next year I might not bother volunteering with parade security, they've got far too many such positions as it is in my opinion, and who wants to see a security vehicle every other participant vehicle in what's supposed to be a Halloween parade?

SpikeTalon comments on Oct 8, 2022:
After having considerable time to ponder the debate over arming public school teachers, I am happy to say that I disagree with such a notion, for obvious reasons (or what should be obvious anyways). I've been removed from the public school system now for a few decades, and even back then I had a number of teachers who were jackasses and morons. That said, I dare not fathom how many rotten teachers there are out there nowadays, and I'm sure things have only gotten worse since my school days. When we're possibly (I use the word possibly there sparingly) dealing with supposedly highly educated adults who for reasons largely unknown cannot readily differentiate between the two sexes, can't say I'm comfortable in arming such individuals. Also, just exactly how much money would such an endeavor cost the taxpayers, as if we don't pay enough already. So no thanks to arming school teachers. By the way, body armor could be a worthwhile investment for anyone across the board. Life at times can be strange and unpredictable, never know what you might come up against. A multitude of potential hazards out there @Garban... from disgruntled BLM activists chucking molotov cocktails and rocks to tinfoil hat-wearing MAGA types who would want to slug you one with an American Flag flagpole for criticizing the fake tan man, to starving werewolves who will ambush you and tear you to shreds in nine seconds flat, to some crazed homeless hobo who has a bad habit of biting others totally unprovoked. Yup indeed, no shortage of threats to your existence out there. One more thing... no real need to thank the teachers for their "patience and commitment", as most of them these days are under strict union protection, and they enjoy various perks from simple pats on the back from total strangers simply because of their profession to getting over two months off in a row besides all the holidays, in addition to their paychecks. I'm sure the money alot of them make feels good, so I'd reckon under such circumstances it wouldn't be too difficult for them to find some patience and stay committed to their work, as it's the least they could do. And even as pro gun rights as I can be, I would never force any of them to carry a gun to their place of employment, which is an added bonus for them! And everyone's satisfied in the end (I think).

A classic one from Carlin, and truth be told there. No such thing as "pro life", just maybe people who generally respect the lives of others is all. What really gets me is, a good number of those so-called pro lifers out there also own guns, and if you own a gun and are willing to use it even on an unarmed burglar who broke into your house, you certainly aren't pro life, not by any stretch of the means. Only group of human beings that come to mind as possibly qualifying as pro life would be the zen buddhists, and even some of them are questionable.

The madness promoted by the NRA to promote the sales of it’s clients products.
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 7, 2022:
Odd thing is, we seldom if ever hear about NRA members committing random acts of violence like mass shootings, as such incidents usually involve either mentally disturbed individuals using stolen weapons or those who already have criminal records and used black market acquisitions. Yet, for peculiar reasons otherwise law-abiding gun owners are the ones who consistently get demonized, while there's a recent movement on the progressive left to go easier on violent criminals and let them out of jail sooner. Just heard that there was a "mass stabbing" in Las Vegas in which two were killed and six injured, and somehow I get the feeling that those "assault rifles and their high capacity magazines" are going to get blamed for that stabbing spree... Regarding the meme about the guy claiming the Government is out to get him... to be fair any one particular individual who claims the Government is out to get them is absurd, and such people probably would benefit from some therapy sessions. On the other hand, taking such a scenario on a larger scale, such a person would not exactly be wrong then, as over the years those elected to positions of power and authority have worked to diminish our rights. In recent times look how free speech advocates have been criticized and suppressed by progressives who had dreamed up yet more laws to make certain types of speech illegal, with some harsh punishments for those who decide on going against such laws. Likewise, look how the social conservatives have seriously undermined reproductive rights for women, seeking to make all abortion procedures illegal at the Federal level. When all of that is taken into deeper consideration, how could such not be considered attacks of the sort on the individual (those working in Government positions doing that, that is)? So someone like that would not be totally wrong, and speaking of reproductive rights... I think it no mere coincidence that a certain demographic like the pro choice crowd who by and large are composed of alot of the same individuals who advocate for strict gun control measures, are also the same ones who are steadily losing their rights, while for the most part the gun owners still have their rights largely intact. That's no mere coincidence my friend, as the authoritarians seeking to abolish bodily autonomy know that a mostly unarmed activist front poses no serious threat to them and their power or the system itself. All of those guys like Graham and Abbott who are anti-abortion may act big but in reality they're frickin cowards, who would piss in their damn pants if more of the women they are harming were to arm themselves and take to the streets as an armed collective. Think about it, you know I'm not wrong about that, guys like that are opportunist cowards. As...

SpikeTalon comments on Oct 6, 2022:
The former is largely benign in the sense that ignorance is mostly in play there and not malice, while the latter is intentional and thought out at least somewhat. For example, if someone were to claim that the part of the Second Amendment where it mentions "well regulated" means for a governing body to step in and regulate, that would (for the most part anyways) be an example of misinformation and not necessarily someone deliberately telling a lie. That aside, your take on that was good, got a laugh out of that one. Somethin' tells me though that after mentioning such an example as I did above, that I'm gonna go to "hell" for that one now, lol. Think I broke the first and most important commandment there... thou shalt have no other gods than the gods of gun control, as technically I rather indiscriminately held another "god" in higher esteem. SpikeTalon comments on Oct 6, 2022:
As for your first point, who exactly makes up the community? You guessed it... the individual citizens. Any sort of collectivism starts out with a few individuals and gradually adds more, but it still originates on an individual level. As for number two, it doesn't matter what word you decide to use in describing/addressing the citizens, and once again when you say the word "people" having that right that pretty much establishes said right at an individual level. If you do not set that right on an individual level, then I contend it is not possible to establish the right as a collective/community right. If you follow the trail far back enough, every human right begins at the individual level, and progresses from there on out. This is the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Now for a moment imagine that the 1A applies as a collective right like you believe the 2A does, can you see what can possibly go wrong there? For a start, the freedom of religion part could conceivably be used by corrupted evangelicals looking to force their views on everyone else by using that collective mentality to diminish any other minority religious factions, all in the name of what would be better for society as a whole. Now here's the Fourth Amendment: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Notice how the words "people" and "persons" are both used, and why do you suppose that is? Because if you can't establish that right at the individual level then you cannot possibly hope to collectively have that right. In conclusion, it doesn't matter what variation of a specific word you use (in this case the focus was on the word people), because in the end how those Amendments in the Bill of Rights was worded mean pretty much the same thing, and the 1A/2A/4A are examples of individual rights that would also apply to the community as a whole. Not to mention, once we go down the path that the 2A is a collective right in which could be modified by the community, the rest of our rights could conceivably be subjected to the same standards, and depending on who we elected to positions of authority and power that could potentially be a very bad thing. That said, I will give you credit for admitting you're not a lawyer, and that pretty...

The Republican Party used to consider itself a big tent inclusive party capable of compromise.
SpikeTalon comments on Oct 5, 2022:
@Garban You said above- "Why would a political party purposely disenfranchise: People of color, People who read, People with non heterosexual identities, And people that care about the people above?" That one is relatively simple to answer if one were to stop and consider who/what it is that is a big influence on the Republican Party nowadays. Of course I'm referring to the evangelical christian influence that has long hijacked the Party, and you and I both know how organized religion(s) tend to warp the human brain and in turn cause people to believe in and support strange concepts, and also become paranoid of their fellow human beings. On the flip side, and I know many on here won't want to acknowledge this, but the Democratic Party continues to piss off alot of people too with their failed economic policies (latino population comes to mind as one example that are growing fed up with the Democrats). While the Democrats may not exhibit the blatant hostility towards certain demographics like the Republicans do, they do manipulate and use those people all the same, all the while claiming to be helping. Take Philadelphia for instance, Jim Kenney has been the Mayor since 2016, and in the time since nothing much has improved for the citizens of Philly. Poverty is still a huge issue, too many are homeless and unemployed, high school drop out rate is still too high and the public education system continues to fail many students. Violent crime appears to be at an all time high, and when you consider what the citizens living there are going through (see the above) it's a small wonder why so many turn to a life of crime as they conclude there's nothing much good left to live for. Then people like Kenney want to blame the guns for the ills in society, and dream up more gun control laws which won't do a damn thing to improve living conditions, when in reality he should take a step back and consider what it was he maybe did wrong and that maybe a main cause of the chaos in his city is due to his poor and pitiful leadership as Mayor. As for the not being able to read part, that could apply to both extremes. You aren't totally wrong about that, but during my time on this site I've had exchanges with a number of the resident Democrat supporters, and some of their responses to me hardly would have indicated high intelligence or ability to be logical & reasonable, and was at times totally appalling and similar to crap that the Republican supporters often do. I contend both sides can be extremely intolerant and ignorant towards their perceived opposition, and not exclusive to one or the other. That's the problem though, we have each extreme duking it out with each other, and in the meantime we the people (meaning those who can still think for ...

SpikeTalon comments on Oct 5, 2022:
That was one long paragraph, lol... The facts: The Azov Regiment (formerly the Azov Battalion) was formed in may 2014 as a volunteer paramilitary militia under the command of Andriy Biletsky to fight pro-Russian forces in the Donbas War, and was formally incorporated into the National Guard on 11 November 2014. During that time there has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the Azov unit, from claims that they are/were actively promoting the spread of neo-nazi propaganda, to allegations of crimes against humanity. In 2016, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch received several credible allegations of abuse and torture by the regiment. Reports published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) documented looting of civilian homes and unlawful detention and torture of civilians between September 2014 and February 2015 "by Ukrainian armed forces and the Azov regiment in and around Shyrokyne". Another OHCHR report documented an instance of rape and torture, writing: "A man with a mental disability was subject to cruel treatment, rape and other forms of sexual violence by 8 to 10 members of the 'Azov' and 'Donbas' (another Ukrainian battalion) battalions in August–September 2014. The victim's health subsequently deteriorated and he was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital." A report from January 2015 stated that a Donetsk Republic supporter was detained and tortured with electricity and waterboarding and struck repeatedly on his genitals, which resulted in his confessing to spying for pro-Russian militants. While it cannot be denied that Azov's founders indeed held what would be considered far-right political views and may have even been nazi sympathizers, claims of nazism/nazi sympathizers against the Regiment itself as a whole have been determined time and time again to be false, pro-Russian rhetoric meant to slander Azov and win over more supporters to the Kremlin's crooked cause against the Ukraine. That aside, it's worth pointing out that Putin's Russia has and continues to employ a group of mercenaries known as the Wagner group, who are known neo-fascists themselves and who probably have nazi sympathizers in their ranks. Imagine the irony in that, Putin lies about Azov being nazis and he turns around and employs a group nazis, haha unreal... Also wanted to briefly point out that after the conflict in Donbas in 2014 there were a number of those on the political left from US politicians to media sources who openly bashed and criticized the Azov Regiment as nazis. Cannot recall names now, but back in around 2016 or so came across a few articles from left-leaning sources who said some rather nasty albeit slanderous things about Azov. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier ...

Captain Puddin' Head lies yet again... President Biden lies about guns. Again... [reason.com]
SpikeTalon comments on Sep 28, 2022:
From the article above- "President Biden repeatedly lies about the capabilities of firearms, the historical treatment of gun ownership, and the legal status of the industry that serves public demand for firearms. He does so while pushing restrictions on guns based on those misstatements. And he's seemingly immune to correction. "Every U.S. president has a responsibility to get American history correct, especially when he's using a supposed history lesson in service of a political objective," The Washington Post's Glenn Kessler warned last year. "The president's push for more gun restrictions is an important part of his political platform, so he undercuts his cause when he cites faux facts." "Those false statements can be dismissed as just another gaffe or 'Corn Pop' story, but they refer to the factual foundation for gun control under the Second Amendment," added George Washington University Law School Professor Jonathan Turley after the most recent fabrications. "Since President Biden is suggesting that such facts are material to a ban, there is a need for accuracy in such details." At this point, after multiple ignored corrections, it's a stretch to pretend that the president's misstatements are accidental; he obviously doesn't care about their truth. What's important to him and his supporters is achieving their policy goals, even if they have to lie to do so." That much is certainly true.

SpikeTalon comments on Sep 27, 2022:
It appears in most states already it is against the law to be intoxicated while using firearms, and those found guilty of such could face stiff penalties- https://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/resources/is-it-illegal-possess-a-firearm-while-under-influence You're right, no sane or rational individual could object to such an idea as to what you proposed above, the only thing is we haven't exactly remedied the problem with drunk driving let alone intoxicated incidents that involved firearms. Despite some serious penalties such as costly fines and considerable jail time, that hasn't much deterred the repeat offenders among us. A number of years ago had a neighbor who repeatedly got behind the wheel while intoxicated, four times to be exact, and once he rolled his car and nearly killed himself. He must have paid thousands in fines and served time in jail, after the second time, yet that didn't seem to deter his negligent behavior. Sadly, him suffering a fatal heart attack put an end to his poor choices. So your suggestion is certainly a reasonable one, and rational people could abide by such, but still have my reservations that such measures still wouldn't much deter the truly irresponsible and ignorant among us though, based on some of what I've seen and heard over the years anyways. Some people aren't that bothered by being jailed, or concerned about fines especially if they don't have the money to pay the fines in the first place.

While that raises a good point about the persecution part, given the evidence that I have observed from a strictly independent take on the matter, I think said raid was warranted, and that Trump is indeed in possession of the documents that were claimed. The other part I agree with, and this is perhaps the more important part there (the bigger picture in other words), is the fighting against a corrupted Government, which at this point is nothing more than a two-Party monopoly. The people shouldn't kid themselves either, the Democratic Party is no more working for the middle working class than the Republican Party is, and I sure don't see these Democrat politicians doing much of anything to seriously deter the anti-reproductive rights crowd. We keep trading one moron for yet another moron, and that pretty much sums up our Elections over the last three or so decades now.

SpikeTalon comments on Sep 18, 2022:
Nothing silly random or fun about harboring dark fantasies of pushing people off of a cliff no matter how detestable they may be, and certainly does no honor to secular humanism. Challenge someone like Trump to a debate, give a chance to argue out his points, and if he doesn't agree to such it's probably because he couldn't rationally defend his talking points in which you'd win the debate then by default. Such a meme could easily depict other scenarios... How would you feel if the person getting pushed off a cliff was a gay man, his assaulter being one who actually believed that the gay lifestyle was dangerous to society and that his actions were justified? I'm willing to bet you wouldn't think that's humorous, and I sure wouldn't be amused at such either. Not to mention on certain social media platforms the authorities would be contacted over what could be perceived as veiled threats. Please think about that. If you harbor that much rage and resentment, I'd suggest consulting a therapist then, and I say that in a kind way and not to be sarcastic. Full disclosure, I don't care for the man either, but I would say the same thing regardless of the politician being depicted, because violent fantasies aren't the solution to the problems we face in society, and surely we are better than that. Then again, maybe not, maybe perhaps I'm lending far too much credit to the secular community? That said, I can understand your frustration, but there might be a better way of venting frustration is all I'm suggesting.
