Ironically, the second amendment provides the means for enacting gun regulation when the people want...
SpikeTalon comments on May 27, 2022:
It does no such thing. What it does do is establish that in order to maintain the security of a free state a well regulated militia is pretty much a necessity, and the second part clearly states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. On that last part there, notice how it said nothing about regulating the rights of the citizens to bear arms, but it did say shall not be infringed. Common sense should dictate that the first part of the 2A was not referring to only regulated militias having the right to bear arms. Also, for what purpose do you suppose the Founder's had in mind when they drafted the 2A? They knew full well that Governments could become corrupt over time and turn on the people they are supposed to be serving, so it makes no bit of rational or logical sense that they knowing such would then make a law suggesting only Government regulated militias can possess all the weapons. Your whole argument on that is contradicting. https://www.history.com/topics/united-states-constitution/2nd-amendment From the above linked to source: During the Revolutionary War era, “militia” referred to groups of men who banded together to protect their communities, towns, colonies and eventually states, once the United States declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776. Many people in America at the time believed governments used soldiers to oppress the people, and thought the federal government should only be allowed to raise armies (with full-time, paid soldiers) when facing foreign adversaries. For all other purposes, they believed, it should turn to part-time militias, or ordinary civilians using their own weapons. Now... I have spent many years thinking about this topic, and I have now been on both sides of that debate, having started out as a rabid gun control activist the likes of which you couldn't begin to fathom, I am saying what I'm saying for a good reason. I am not one to be dictated to by emotions (referring to my own) and pay absolutely no reasonable regards to anyone else who lets their emotions run wild as soon as the next horror presents itself in society, as no truly logical or reasonable person should. Once unbridled emotions take hold, logic and reasoning go out the window. Back in January 2021 I was a mute witness to the madness over emotions running high over a perceived "election steal" which was hardly the truth, and what I saw to come shortly afterwards appalled me to no end. Now, I am witness to emotions dictating to and manipulating those on the other political side regarding recent shooting sprees, and I'm equally appalled at what I'm witnessing, people who in reality are seething with hatred and contempt for the perceived opposition just like those who went wild back in ...

SpikeTalon comments on May 27, 2022:
Truth be told there, I agree wholeheartedly. The lack of appropriate and timely police response along with the fact that school screwed up by not having all the building entrances locked during the school day, resulted in catastrophe. Can't blame that one on the NRA, let's put the blame where it really belongs.
I wonder why school shootings never (at least to the best of my knowledge) happened when I was in ...
SpikeTalon comments on May 27, 2022:
I grew up in the 1980s-90s, and I certainly didn't have to worry about being shot in school, and there were many guns in circulation back then. Hell, the entrance doors to my school weren't even locked, which says alot. You are right about your conclusion regarding the number of mentally disturbed individuals, but try telling that to those who are slave to their emotions? I just got done arguing with two other guys on the matter, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to realize their arguments were emotionally charged.
The Texas elementary mass shooting was the 212th mass shooting in the U.
SpikeTalon comments on May 27, 2022:
No, that was the fourth mass shooting so far in 2022, a far cry from the 212 figure that propaganda sources keep pushing, because they conflate every instance of a shooting with a mass shooting when they are two different statistics. They also get school shootings and mass school shootings confused too.- https://graphics.reuters.com/USA-GUNS/MASS-SHOOTING/nmovardgrpa/? https://www.statista.com/statistics/811487/number-of-mass-shootings-in-the-us/? As for gun reform, there are already numerous laws on the books meant to curb violence via firearm, and none of those laws have been effective to date because criminals have no regards for the law. More of the same won't help any, and especially nowadays with the right tools anyone could 3D print firearms and not even have to bother at all with the legal system.

The Brown Bess was the standard fire arm during writing of the second amendment.
SpikeTalon comments on May 26, 2022:
You are focusing on what was popular back in those days, and not all what actually existed in those times, which leaves out key details to your overall argument. The concept of repeating and multi shot weapons certainly existed back in the 1700s, and there's evidence to suggest that such weapons (or even the concepts for such) existed even before the 1700s. Single shot muskets were the popular arm back then as they were the most affordable arms, only the rich usually owned the more expensive weapons that could hold more than one round.- https://arizonadailyindependent.com/2018/03/11/multi-shot-assault-weapons-of-the-1700s-and-the-2nd-amendment/ Also back in the 1700s, regular citizens were allowed to own cannons, contrary to Joe Biden's claim otherwise, in which he was grossly incorrect. So the 2A applied not only to guns, but virtually any weapon your Government possessed the citizens should also have access to, in order to keep the playing field somewhat level. The Founders were not dumb men and knew full well that with the continuation of the Enlightenment era weapon technology would conceivably advance, and they also knew the Government would get their hands on such weaponry. As for killing power and magazine capacity goes, a skilled shooter with even 5 round magazines could do some serious damage, as it doesn't take long to reload a mag. Sure doesn't take me long to reload an M4, regardless of what the mag capacity is. The average person could carry multiple magazines on them at any given time, so even if each only held 5 rounds that could still equate to being able to carry many rounds on your person, which means damage potential would still be considerable, which by extension also means high capacity magazine bans are a moot point. Regarding actual stopping/killing power, some of the deadliest rifles out there aren't fully automatic and carry usually 5 or 6 rounds per magazine, yet they have potentially more lethal power than your average AR-15, even though the ARs may appear scarier looking than sniper rifles. Most of these gun control laws would not even apply to such sniper rifles, yet that doesn't diminish the fact they are powerful weapons capable of taking out a target from over a mile away. I had once tried to use the argument you cited above back when I had supported gun control measures... and I got my arse handed to me on a platter by the gun rights proponents who cited the points that I just shared above, and shortly after realized my argument could not be logically defended any further. So the framers of the Constitution designed the 2A as they did knowing full well what Governments were capable of doing to the citizens once they acquired too much power. Some these days would try to claim that fears of such Government ...

The thing that gets me is, those defending the examples above usually claim to be liberal, but how on Earth is such an approach to the matter genuinely liberal?? Don't sweat it, also blocked from that group as well. Was banned over a petty reason, not worth my time getting upset over and actually I think it's funny when people act petty like that. Funny thing is, alot of those on here who had complained about getting blocked do the same damn thing to others, and think nothing of it. CutieBeauty was the one responsible for banning me from that group by the way, and I already know how you feel about her. Like I said, don't fret over getting banned, as it can be quite humorous to see how petty others can be. The irony is lost on those folks who started a group bitching about being blocked by others, and then they turn around and start blocking people, lol.

I'm glad for sites like Steam Games and GOG, digital games means no more need for CDs. I'm mostly into first-person shooters and action/adventure. Some of my favorites and in no particular order: Shogo Mobile Armor Division, Alien vs Predator 2, Max Payne, Soldier of Fortune 2 Double Helix, Day Of The Zombie, Halo. All time favorite would be Deus Ex, that game really rocks, and the Deus Ex Revision mod just blew me away. If the day ever comes I decide on online gaming, I'll endeavor to keep your invitation in mind.

SpikeTalon comments on May 9, 2022:
Whilst it's certainly true that there are plenty of the rapey type religious men out there protesting against abortion rights, the video above from TYT is missing context. Apparently some pro choice protesters were taunting a few of the anti abortion dudes including the guy featured in the above video, and that guy lashed out by saying what he did, and reportedly almost immediately afterwards stated he was just joking. Grant it, while it may have been just a joke, it was still vile to say something like that, and hardly appropriate to crack jokes about owning women's bodies especially during these trying times, so he's still a zealous jerk in my opinion. Neither side protesting at St Patrick's Cathedral NYC were totally innocent, with both sides taking jabs at each other, and when such situations eventually devolve into near or all out confrontation some truly asinine statements are bound to fly. On a side note, can't say I'm surprised TYT presented that situation the way they did, as they are known to exaggerate claims at times and independent fact checkers don't rate them high in the credibility department- https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-young-turks/ Similar videos from NARAL are generally more trustworthy than what TYT have to offer on the topic of abortion rights.

Can someone please explain libertarian philosophy in simple terms to me.
SpikeTalon comments on Mar 16, 2022:
In short it means to be fiscally (economics) conservative while being socially liberal, and American libertarianism itself was founded on classic liberalism. A mixture of both political sides in other words, some libertarians may lean more to the right while others would lean more to the left. It is maximum individual liberty for all members in society, and you are free to live your life as you see fit provided you do not impede upon the life of another.
I admit I've noticed this myself, and it's rather sad.
SpikeTalon comments on Mar 15, 2022:
While I believe Republican Atheists has a good mission in mind and that Ell made a solid point in some sympathizers being anything but, I can't help but think the organization is not as inclusive as they think it is, and the name of the group pretty much reflects that. Compared to say a group like Atheists for Liberty, while not technically a direct political group, they are more accepting of those who do not identify as Republican but yet mostly share in the same values and goals as most Republicans. If you focus only on one area, you probably won't attract as many individuals, compared to Atheists for Liberty who readily welcome anyone from Republicans/conservatives/Libertarians/independents and centrists/classic liberal, and not surprisingly that organization has seen growth in the past year. As much as I'd like to support Republican Atheists, at this point I somehow doubt they will ever gain enough traction to make a considerable difference where separation of Church and State are concerned. Time will tell though.

Generally speaking, I'm usually a patient man who is willing to hear out both sides of the story, but I'm starting to lose my cool with the Putin apologist crowd, especially knowing how many innocent Ukrainian citizens are needlessly being slaughtered and the overwhelming evidence to suggest such is indeed happening.
