SpikeTalon replies on Apr 29, 2018:
Mike, the problem I have with your above comment is that while maybe you yourself would not be interested in confiscating all firearms, a good majority of gun control loonies have openly stated their goal in the long run is to ban all guns. The NRA is telling the truth. Furthermore, wouldn't you say it constitutes scare mongering when the gun control crowd suggests to the public that the NRA are a bunch of murderers for not going along with gun control measures, and strictly due to the NRA not accepting any such measures automatically equates to future attacks committed because of such. To say the NRA has blood on their hands is a huge claim that has no merit upon closer examination, as I've yet to hear any instance where the NRA directly killed anyone. No, gun control legislation has killed many, especially those in Chicago in which such measures failed people miserably. Lastly, since you think Trump is such a liar, what would that make Obama? That man lied just about on everything, especially on healthcare. In short, while you may very well be talking about your own views only, that does not represent the views of the rest of the gun control crowd, whose goal is to eliminate all private firearm ownership. I implore you to reconsider your actions.

@MikeFlora I never said he was, but he sure is way better than most of the other politicians, and Hillary Clinton was no option, you think things are bad now if she would have gotten elected this country would be in serious jeopardy by now. Listen Mike, I understand how you feel about gun control believe me I do, you people want to change things for the better and make our society safer, but there is no amount of "reasonable" gun control that would make us safer because criminals do not obey our laws. Banning bump stocks and high capacity mags and raising the minimum age to purchase would not accomplish anything. Years ago I knew two guys whom I worked with that were involved in the black market, and they would actually steal military hardware off of a local military base (they had some inside help). Attempting to ban assault rifles would only disarm law abiding criminals, as those in government and military would never give up their weapons. Face it, we live in times where certain weapons have been created and will not go away no matter how much legislation is ever passed, and those that think their proposed gun control measures would work are living in a delusional utopian dream world. What I own is no one's business but my own, and as long as I'm not bothering anyone I resent someone else telling me I shouldn't/cannot own certain things, especially knowing we live in a free country. Cripes, there are quite a few folks out there who could make their own weapons. I feel like I'm talking to the wall when I mention to the anti gun crowd that gun control has failed miserably, just look at Chicago with all the measures they have in place and it's the most violent city in this country, and yet all I hear is talk of the same bs legislation that does not and never will work. Talk about wasting time...

@SilverDollarJedi A solid observation there, and I couldn't agree more. The bad part about trusting the "experts" is, that when it comes to cyber security related issues the scene is constantly changing, new malwares and ransomwares are being created constantly and the experts sometimes have difficulty in keeping up with it and coming up with counter measures, which is why I would not be inclined to solely trust the experts. The white hat hackers and the other good guys trying to track and counter the malicious hackers are technically on the losing end of the battle, as new forms of malware are released they are hard pressed to come up with solutions in a timely matter. Thus, we need more people to get interested in the many fields of cyber security.

Spike, maybe we need a tech group, because most people are probably aren't really interested in most of this stuff.
SpikeTalon replies on Apr 25, 2018:
@SilverDollarJedi @jperlow I agree with both of you, it seems tech and cyber security related issues are not paid much attention on the public threads here, so a group on the topic is the way to go. I did a few posts now on related topics and have received very little feedback, not alot of concerned people on here, but am glad to know you two care about said topics. Being that everyone on this site uses either a computer or mobile device and thus could always fall prey to cyber crimes, you would think more people would be concerned.
Is attraction a choice?
SpikeTalon comments on Apr 24, 2018:
Since you were somewhat vague in your query, I will have to assume you were referring to sexual attraction and not general social attraction (like who you would tend to gravitate to friend wise etc). In short, my answer would be yes, attraction is a choice because choices are decided in the brain. I...
SpikeTalon replies on Apr 25, 2018:
@KenG You believe in free will do you not? I'd say if someone chooses to they could be attracted to a tree, being drunk or high aside. An individual is only as limited as they allow themselves. Not to be outdone, there are folks out there who are attracted to animation and paintings that depict nudity, look it up. Ever hear of a Brony? That's a grown man who watches My Little Pony and is attracted to the characters, again look it up.

@KenG Indeed, as I always could change my mind on a whim. As I said before, mind over matter, we are all in control of our brains aside from those afflicted with mental illness perhaps. Society at times conditions our thinking and would have us believe we are born with having set preferences/attractions, and I don't buy into any of that.

@NotConvinced The door could swing both ways on that one, and such a scenario can get tricky. At first it would seem that those who require clothing to be worn are the ones pushing their beliefs, but if you know someone could be uncomfortable with you being naked, wouldn't you think it's a bit childish to continue making them uncomfortable when it certainly would not be necessary to continue doing so? I see this as a situation where both sides could play the I'm offended card, so finding middle ground on that can get tricky. If you read all the comments, you would see one other guy said similar to what I just mentioned in regards to being childish and inconsiderate (I think those were the exact words he used). I'm going to message you later and explain another reason why I commented as I did

Nudity is mostly about people who feel good in their own skin. After a while though seeing all the bouncing throbby bits gets boring. I would be looking at a nudist and saying, Don't you have anything better to wear? And after seeing some people in the nude, I am glad it is a law in most places
