I've been following the story of the teenage boy in Alabama who was pronounced brain dead.
SpikeTalon comments on May 7, 2018:
First of all, most of that story from the boy's point of view was largely fabricated. I think medical technology arrived to a point where we can reasonably determine that after physical death and organs shut down there is/could still be some activity going on in the brain hours after being pronounced dead. This would explain the visions the boy had (just a dream by the way) as there certainly was still some activity going on in his brain. This would also explain so-called near death experiences. I think stories like this suck (I am glad that a young boy survived though) because the religious fanatics will pounce on it at the first opportunity and say "see we told you god and the afterlife are real". I can only hope that story fades away quickly and people forget about it.

Hamilton vs Jefferson, who do you think take credit for shaping America?
SpikeTalon comments on May 6, 2018:
Hard to say on that one, as both men had their share of contributions. While Jefferson would seem like the obvious choice, it pays to keep in mind that he was one of the main supporters of state rights and started the Democratic-Republican party, which in the long run only hurt our country by giving states more power to defy federal laws. While some would argue for smaller government, I can't say giving states more power is the answer, there is nothing wrong with a strong federal government so long as it is kept in check by the citizens. Hamilton is pretty much the father of modern day American banking, but again it pays to keep in mind the banking system back then was different than what we have today corruption wise, so I could not put blame on Hamilton directly as his intentions were good, those who came after him screwed things up. The Jeffersonian Republicans who were considered rather liberal minded for their day, messed things up the most and helped to diminish the government as it was formed shortly after the revolution. Knowing how many people there are in this country with different ideas and views, I don't think we'll ever be able to agree on everything or come up with a system that benefits all citizens. I do know given the choice between the two of them, I'll take federal any day over the state, as this is supposed to be a country united and guided by the Constitution. Nothing wrong with a strong federal government so long as power is kept in check, so when that becomes an issue blame complacency and not certain individuals or even political parties. The status quo succeeded in pushing out the Federalist's, but some day the favor may get returned to the statist's...

The left-right political paradigm may be obsolete.
SpikeTalon comments on May 5, 2018:
First of all, excellent post, and I agree with most of what was mentioned above. The status quo is not advancing our society as they would like to have us believe, and serious change at this point is required. However, it pays to keep in mind when a political system does not work out as desired, it may not be because said political system does not work but rather human beings are at fault for the lack of progress or success or both. In other words, let's take a look at who exactly is running things in politics, perhaps it is time to elect decent leadership, leaders who actually care about the citizens grievances. While I can certainly agree that socialism is not and never was the answer to our problems, I must slightly disagree on the capitalism part. The concept of free market capitalism gives opportunity to those willing to seek out success/wealth and innovate and invent that of which could be a benefit to society, and also encourages competition which in turn could lead to reasonable prices on consumer goods. Do not complain about how big Google is, for crying out loud folks do something about it, use your brains and invent a platform that could be competitive to Google and thus diminish the iron grip they have on the internet world. Capitalism is not the problem per se, but the fact that everyone wants to complain about these organizations and never do anything to compete against them. Cryptocurrencies are the future, at least I hope they will be, as they could provide a means to compete against banks. Other political systems such as technocracy/anarchy/voluntaryism are interesting concepts, but I'm afraid at this point they would not work out in the long run as not enough people are aboard with the visions they present, so for the time being I contend that free market capitalism is the best political choice. The real trick is finding decent human beings to head positions of political authority, blame human beings for failure, not inanimate political ideaologies.
