I disliked school very much. ADD was part of it. Of course we didn't know what that was in the 50's and 60's. If I had no interest in a subject (math) my brain refused to go there. Classes that should have been interesting (history) were made boring by the curriculum and teachers. I faked my way through a lot of it. I found after two stabs at college, it was no different. Being taught by folks who haven't done anything but teach, but had no practical experience in what they were teaching. For me, this is a real problem with college. I was probably a C/C plus student through all of it. With all of that, I was the advertising director for nine Woolco department stores in Austin and San Antonio at the age of twenty three. You could not do that now.

Certainly it was a different world.

An oversimplification of a real problem. Money can definitely be a problem for some, especially with distances over a thousand miles. Some folks are tied to their location because of job, home ownership, family, or a lifestyle based on location. There is the problem of getting to know each other by spending time together over a period of weeks maybe months, putting a lot of pressure on the few days you get to spend together and phone calls. I have been in two long distance relationships, one of 90 miles and one of 200 miles. Both relationships couldn't over come the distance. It is much easier to stay connected by phone now for sure without those three hundred dollar phone bills. Life is not a romantic comedy destined to work out by the end of the third reel. Distance is by far the biggest challenge with on line dating IMO.

I saw him in 1967 in Louisville, Ky. It was a small bar, less than 200 people. He just got out of rehab. He had on a gray suit, white shirt and tie. He looked a little frail, but he sounded great. That was pretty cool. I thought his last album had some of the best stuff he ever recorded. There was so much heart and soul in some of those songs. Sometimes I have a difficult time listening to it.
