@Cutiebeauty A lot. Some folks are weak and they will be easily persuaded to believe whatever they are told, good and bad. There is nothing you can do for those folks. I had a mother-in-law who I really respected for the way she raised her kids. She once told me no matter how hard you try you wil lfuck up your kids in some way or another. Unless you are perfect you will pass on stuff to your kids that may not work for them. Each person has to figure this stuff out along the way. Most of the people on this site were raised in religion and figured out somewhere a long the way it was bullshit. it is that way for most everything in life. Confidence can ebb and flow. We have all been in situations where we are not very confident and situations where we are totally confident. it is definitely not a black and white subject.

@Neenz Governments don't make people bad. We are each responsible for what we do and what we think, unless there is some impairment. We are not evolving near as fast as our knowledge and technology is evolving, and that is part of the problem. Human beings by and large do not handle change very well. Change in the last 150 years or so happens faster and faster. You must remember 49% of people have an IQ in double digits, not exactly supporting the argument we are evolving at an accelerated rate. The less intelligent the more the fight against change, especially social change.

It is much easier in a small town or even in a small country. I am not sure about that happening in big cities, or a country as diverse as the US. While it may seem to make perfect sense, how often does that happen with humanity?

@Allamanda It's American greed, stupidity, hypocrisy, and an over inflated sense of self. We are probably the most complex society on the planet, which creates its own strengths and weaknesses.

Sticks48 replies on Nov 14, 2019:
@Allamanda l have seen all of that stuff before. This has been going on in different places for a long time. Human beings react when in peril. They don't feel that at this point in time. Human beings are a selfish species most of the time, and until they are personally threatened they will not react. There is nothing in human history that hints of anything different. After the disaster they will pitch in, but they need that disaster, especially in the States.

We played behind her at a private party in West Texas when she was probably 19 to 22 years old. Reba and her mother tried to hire us. We were very flattered, but declined. They were both very nice. The one rehearsal we had that afternoon went smoothly, and we had a great time that night.

Inability to be vulnerable or feeling competitive, though I think studies show blue collar men have more social interaction.

@GreatNani I can see that. Blue collar workers often work in groups where white collar workers are often separated by offices plus what you said. Very good point.

bleurowz comments on Nov 11, 2019:
What I've noticed, men and women are socialized to view friendships differently. Women see them more as emotional connections; men see them more as buddies to hang out with. There are exceptions, and hopefully that's changing so that both can appreciate broader varieties of friendship.

Sticks48 replies on Nov 11, 2019:
@sandrarocks83 You might think about it. Austin is a very open and friendly city. It is Texas so there wouldn't be a great cultural shock like moving to the Southeastern part of the country or to New England. The traffic sucks, but there are tradeoffs to everything. Just a thought. I used to play in Dallas a lot at one time' but never really liked the city that much. I actually had a better time in Ft Worth even though it is more conservative than Dallas, but do they party there. Good luck. :)

Sticks48 replies on Nov 11, 2019:
@sandrarocks83 I know moving is not easy. I have moved a lot and sometimes forget that. Austin is a much different place than Dallas. I have lived in and around Austin at different times since the 70's and it is not a churchy city. The average age in Austin is 32 years old and it is a very social city. You will definitely find many more like minded people in Austin. It might be worth checking into if there is nothing holding you in Dallas. Moving can be scary, but it can be very exciting too.
