@Auty89 We have over 400 genetic diseases, many of which are mental disorders. Maybe one of these days science will come up with a way to alter these genes and we will have no sociopaths and psychopaths both who seem to quite often find their way into positions of power due to ruthlessness and sometimes coupled with intelligence, a very dangerous combo. Humanity is what it is, and I see nothing to indicate we can avoid bing what we are.

My sister in-law spent over 40 years as an x-ray tech, CT tech, and in management, so yeah l have a pretty good insight into the business of medicine. Actually in this country 63% is inherited (Wall Street Journal). A doctor making a half a million dollars or a million dollars a year is not considered wealthy in this country any more. All of our doctors made that. If you take the average person born to wealth, he could be like trump and be an idiot, but if he a sociopath like trump he will probably bullshit his way into being the chief eventually as trump did. If you do the same with a genius, he won't cure cancer, but he will most likely come up with better ideas for hunting, designing a village, or figuring out which plants are medicinal. @rathswohl Greed has nothing to do with scarcity. All of the billionaires in the world did not get rich because of scarcity. That is just a silly argument. Sociopaths are born sociopaths, just as geniuses are born really smart and the really stupid are born really stupid. We are not born with a clean slate. Most of who we are is genetic. Those genetics will determine how we react to outside stimulus. I know a couple of doctors who are part of the doctors without borders. The reason they can afford to do that is because of the money they make being doctors. Most doctors don't become doctors because of this need to serve mankind. They become doctors because of status and the money they can make, which is fine. That doesn't mean they won't make great doctors. Doctors will not be replaced by AI. Some surgical techniques will be. As I said before, there is nothing in the recorded history which shows human beings are capable of this selfless behavior you dream of. Your world will never happen anywhere on a large scale. You believe people embrace change, and they don't. It takes folks a long time to accept change, if they accept it at all. Half of the people in this country have IQs in double digits. Stupid people continually vote against their own self interests over, and over and over. They do this because they are stupid. You paint a lovely picture, but your naivete is off the charts. Thanks for the conversation.

@rathswohl What you call pessimistic I call realistic. Fresco sounds like he has no clue. Sociopaths are born sociopaths. I have known five of them well. Sociopaths can't be fixed. Sociopaths have a history of seizing power and we know what happens then. Greed, jealousy, even hate is not taught. Racism is in most cases a learned behavior, but sometimes it is triggered by a feeling of being wronged in some way. A few people never change society. You still haven't answered my questions, just more woo.

@rathswohl Sounds like 1984 to me. Number one...human behavior has not changed in the thousands of years of recorded history, and you are going to do it in a decade. Human behavior is not going to change on a dime. The folks with the money, the folks with the power, and those with both, are not going to give up their life style for humanity. This is not how they are wired. Number 2...Why would someone spend all of those years studying to be a doctor to receive the same compensation as the person coming in to clean their office. That ain't gonna happen. Your utopian world might happen if most of the folks on this rock were wiped out, which would make most technology useless, most likely. We would again be an agrarian society, for awhile. Most people are sheep and need to be led, and the whole cycle would start again, because you will not change human nature.

@Neenz Nope, but it will take generations for those kinds of changes. Our number one priority should be climate change at this time. If we don't address this problem first, this other stuff won't matter. The problems could be so overwhelming as to cripple the entire planet with with widespread famine and economic chaos.

@Neenz It still won't change anything. How many folks are climate change deniers in spite of the science behind it. You give humanity way too much credit when there is absolutely no evidence human beings are going to get along even on a fairly small scale much less on a global scale. Technology has made life so very complicated in so many ways, any major changes to simplify have been gone for a hundred years.

@Neenz There is your first mistake. What seems perfectly logical to you and what seems perfectly logical to someone else are not necessarily going to be the same. Since we are human, logic will go by the wayside when those all too human feelings (love, hate, anger, greed, jealousy, insecurity, fear) take over, and they always will. Unless you can change our DNA those things will always be present. You must remember half of the people have double digit IQ's and logic is not what guides the stupid.

@Cutiebeauty If there is no will, it is a mess no matter where you live. Our lead guitarist is going through this in Mass even though there was a will because everything was in his fathers name and he handled everything. They had been married for over 70 years and back then that is how it was. It is getting straightened out but, Chuck has to keep going back there to help her get through this process. When our father died in Illinois, he had no will and it took over two years to get all of that settled. I doubt if NY is any different. Even though you are young, if you have a substantial amount of money or property you need a will now that you have a child. It can always be changed.

@Neenz There is nothing in human history except in very small countries or communities that show we will ever get along. There will always need to be governments because human beings are mostly sheep, and the ruthless are more often than not the folks who become the leaders. The systems we have, especially the money thing will probably never go away, and I have never heard one idea to replace it that is remotely viable. If you have one I would like to here it and how it could be implemented. As far as religions go, hopefully in this country we will grow up and put it in proper perspective. As far as the Middle East goes it could take decades for them to change me thinks.
