@SeaGreenEyez It has become so commonplace, it doesn't seem to faze people anymore. I call this country's love of guns, the John Wayne Syndrome. I really believe the movies have had a great influence on the way we look at guns. Guns were so prevalent, and glorified in the movies of we Boomers and our parents ( people didn't even bleed in those movies until the mid or late sixties ), I believe it has given us an unrealistic view of guns. Maybe when we Boomers are gone, it will change. Unfortunately thousands of more people will die needless deaths until that time.

What is "cultural appropriation"?
Cutiebeauty comments on Jun 14, 2019:
I've never really understood cultural appropriation in the context of the American melting pot concept... Imitation is the best compliment is it not? If you see something you like, a look, a phrase, an idea, etc, I see no problem with making it your own...

In light of what Trump does and says about women, how can they possibly support him if they have more than three brain cells in their head? 😳
Sticks48 replies on Jun 14, 2019:
@thinktwice I know a few "one issue" voters and I have a real problem with them also. I find that kind of thinking as irresponsible as people who don't vote.

@VictoriaNotes You really don't make a lot of sense. You complain about shit that is not real. You sound like someone living in 1955. It has changed, maybe not as fast as you would like, but that really doesn't matter. Like I sad, quit putting it all on men and get your own house together. White women voted Republican in Obama"s second election and for Trump in sixteen. I agree we need more changes, but social changes are always slow to come. It wasn't until the 1970's when there was any real movement in a real positive direction away from a male dominated society. Big changes happen when a generation or a generation and a half pass. We are about generation away from real gun control and real equality for all. That is my hope anyway.

@VictoriaNotes I'm sorry but you need to quit reading and go out and live. You live in a world I haven't seen in a long long time. We don't have a female President because of the electoral college, not because we didn't want one. She won by three million votes. It was educated white women who voted for Trump. Like I have said in the past, you need to get your own gender on board, and quit putting all the blame on us. Indoctrination in the church is something we all have had to overcome, especially if you are of boomer age. You are either smart enough and strong enough to figure it out or you are not. If you are not, there is nothing anyone can do for you. Like I said, I don't know all of these downtrodden, weak willed women you speak of, and it definitely is not the same everywhere. You live in a state that is pretty much last in everything including education. Don't tell me it is everywhere, because that just ain't true. People can make excuses or they can lead their life the way they want to.

@VictoriaNotes Like I said, I don't know these women. I know they exist, especially in the deep South and Southeast, but I have lived and been to too many places this doesn't apply, because these women either woke up and said I am not going to do this anymore, or weren't raised that way. It really is not that hard to overcome. It takes some intelligence and common sense, just like the people on this sight when it comes to dealing with religion. Men are also indoctrinated in these same areas, but you seem to ignore that. We just had 19 black female judges elected in Houston alone. How many women just got elected to the House? You are or your state is stuck in the 50's. It is very different in most places. Your blanket statement about women is just not accurate.

@VictoriaNotes Everybody is indoctrinated from childhood until you are on your own. Whether it's religion, the boy scouts, the girl scouts, the military, school, and of course your own parents. Somewhere along the road you say "fuck it! I am going to live my life the way I want, believing what I want to believe." Most people won't because they are sheep. Nothing you do will change these people. You act like most women are these week subservient women. I don't know these women. Maybe the women in Mississippi fit this description, but the women certainly don't in the places I have lived. Maybe it is the people I associate with. You don't seem to have much respect for men or women. You give both genders short shrift.
