@CaroleKay I like this too. A great feel. A good song is a good song. We do songs with a slight reggae or just reggae. Our guitar player played in a band out of Austin called I-Tex. They were a reggae band that took country songs and did them reggae. We found out years ago you could take the shittiest song in the world, play it with a reggae rhythm and it will work.

In my 20's l was given some white boxer shorts with red hearts. I wore them one night with gray slacks. We went to a bar that had a bunch of black lights. As soon as we walked in I looked down and you could clearly see the hearts through my slacks. This may explain my complete disdain for Valentines...

@CaroleKay I hadn't noticed those. Good eye. I really like antiques, and now 50's and 60's furniture, lamps, and nic-nacs are really getting popular and more expensive in some markets. The stuff from the 40's and older, which I also love, is getting a little harder to find, but the prices are coming down as younger people don' really care for that style as much. Campaign mgrs run campaigns. That is what they get paid to do. Three people l can think of off hand whose campaign mgrs. gave them horrible advice which definitely hurt them are Dukakis, McCain, and Dole.

@Pralina1 I didn't say it was smart, but just having good grades won't get you into college. We also have a system in place in most states which puts the better teachers in the better schools. Those schools are generally in upper middle class and wealthy neighborhoods, putting the less fortunate kids behind another eight ball. There is no easy way for these people to beat a system that continually tries to hold them down, and most of these folks look at it as impossible.

People need an escape from their everyday life. The more miserable the life, the greater the need. I get it playing music, they get it watching a game. People who don't have a way to get out of that life in some way are the people that pick up a gun and take themselves, others, or both out. As for sports for college, it is the only way a poor person may have to reach the goal of a college education. Given the cost of said education and the stagnant wages of the last two or three decades it is a struggle for the middle class to pay for that education also. If you have a couple of kids, then it gets to be twice the problem.

I have played behind Willie and Leon at the 7th Picnic. Unfortunately I never got to see Ray, in my estimation Americas greatest singer.

@whispers I spent an evening with Kinky and a local DJ who was in a duo called the Geezinslaw Bros. I had played behind them too. It was a very entertaining evening. Kinky is one strange dude. Very smart, very funny, very strange.

@whispers Yes it was. Right place right time. I played behind Kinky Friedman one night for a show in Austin. That was a little weird, but I can say I did it. :)

@whispers Yes it was. We had just come off of a tour with them, so I was familiar with Willie's songs and arrangements. Willie's band was late so Poodie, Willie's stage manager, called our bass player and me up on stage to play. Kinda scary.

That isn't my story. I was speaking in general. I have been married and I have lived with someone. I can do either. I was just pointing out it is a legal contract, and in some cases it works better for a couple than living together. In some states if you live together long enough, the state considers it a common law marriage, and you can end up dealing with legal issues anyway.

@LB67 In the 70's and 80's it was a great place for musicians, painters, theater, all sorts of creative folks. Alas, all things change, except for North Dakota. Austin is now a big crowded city. I like San Antonio much more now. I haven't been to California since l was around one. I was born there.

@Infinito_lf you're preparing for an apocalyptic event, which is not a very good idea as they are predicted annually. If your talking about everyone turning their yard into a small farm, that is laughable. In urban areas where a huge percentage of folks live in apartments and condos, l guess they would just get their guns and take your food. If something that catostrphic happened it will be total chaos and anarchy anyway and l dont want to be here. It would be check out time.
