San Marcos is OK if you are in your 20's. New Bruanfels would be a better choice. It is pretty and for grown ups. Great restaurants. Close to San Antonio, which is a much cooler city than Austin. Austin bears very little resemblance to the Austin of the 70's, 80's, and even the 90's.

@UUNJ There were a couple of people there who were my friends back in the day who were just bitter and not friendly. I don't know why they came. The star quarterback was sitting by himself watching a film of the state championship football game. I guess that was the highlight of his life. I found the whole thing depressing. My brother and l went there to recruit a bass player l grew up with. We did accomplish that.

@thinktwice A friend of mine took me to see Dwight Yoakum in Austin last Saturday. The ticket was for his girlfriend's birthday, but they broke up a couple of weeks ago. That is the first concert l have been to since l played a show with Freddie Fender in Red River NM in the late 90's. You should have chosen NM for retirement.
