Beautiful women are ogled. It doesn't matter what you're wearing. If you make yourself sexually attractive, however, you will be treated in a sexual manner, which is fine if you're out on the town, if your intent is to attract that kind of attention, but in a workplace environment the best thing to do, in my opinion, if to dress down and sans makeup. On the other hand, if you want to use your sexuality to gain favors, you can do that too. But you can't have it both ways. In my opinion. On a personal note, I wish women wouldn't shave, use makeup, or dress provocatively; it causes me great pain and builds a wall. I cannot talk to them as I would a normal human being. I think women would meet and make friends with people much more easily, of both sexes, who now are repulsed, kept out, by this barrier, if they stopped trying to be unreal But it sure is nice to look at.
I wonder how far they'll get with it.[huffpost.com]

Did Jesus, the man, exist?
Storm1752 comments on Aug 3, 2020:
No. Saying there isn't evidence either way isn't good enough. LACK of evidence, in this case, is evidence Outside of the Bible itself, no record whatsoever, with Israel awash in scribes, historians, and authors carefully chronicalling every occurrence of note? This man attracting crowds everywhere he goes, creating a stir troubling enough to command the attention of political and religious leaders? Not to mention the performance of miracles? Nothing. Other would-be messiahs were recorded, some at great length. In fact, there was not another part of the Empire so well documented. And yet during his lifetime not a WORD? Think about it. There are many other convincing arguments, but that alone should prove the point. In fact, add onto this the other arguments, and the verdict is overwhelmingly conclusive: there was no such human being who ever walked the earth.

Storm1752 comments on Aug 3, 2020:
Why can't you talk about the CONCEPTS without citing 'Jesus?' 'Jesus' was a creation of the Flavian emperors. Probably written by Justinian. Although they wanted the Jews to accept their dominion by embracing poverty as a virtue, they in no way accepted it for themselves. As prescriptions for living a good life, the poor had no choice but to accept their plight. Jesus was an ingenious invention; words put in his mouth made it 'cool' to be an aesthetic living in a cave, to embrace poverty as a spiritual shortcut to 'heaven.' Do you think the super-rich Roman masters thought so? Of course not. Prosperity Gospel is nowhere to be found in the Bible... Why even bring it up? Most people always reference the Bible. I wish we could talk pure concepts. Nobody wants to be poor, we are all FORCED into lives of poverty

Millions erroneously think ‘Secular’ is synonymous with ‘non-religious’.
Storm1752 comments on Jul 24, 2020:
The words 'secular' and 'secularism':are two different things. Secular means 'non-religious.' Secularism means 'separation of church and state,' and would have to be the law for there to be peace within a country, or amoung nations. Theocracy--or an imposed secular ideology, for that matter-- is the antithesis of peace, because uniform agreement about ANYTHING is impossible, even between two people.
As Agnostics/atheists, are we obligated to be antagonistic to all religions equally?
Storm1752 comments on Jul 24, 2020:
As an agnostic, I try to be stoic about it. It's outside my orbit of influence; I had nothing to do with their creation, and cannot sway or alter them in any way, To be antagonistic, I'd have to think my negative opinions or actions would diminish them in some way. I don't think they would. If anything, my disapproval might give them strength by providing them an enemy against which they could unite. Ignoring them, if it's a religion I dislike, might be the best thing for my peace of mind, and just maybe deprive them of both a friend AND an enemy. So, to the best if my ability, I praise things I like, disregard the rest. Dudeism sounds praiseworthy.

Storm1752 comments on Jul 24, 2020:
And not the joys of being free FROM religion? Good question. As an agnostic myself, my theory is so many here, usually 'hard' atheists who proactively claim a belief god WITHOUT QUESTION does not exist, are so bitter about their extremely negative personal experience (say, at the hands of a domineering parent or other authority figure) they feel compelled to violently react to any evidence of religious overreach. I certainly understand. Plus, it IS true the overreach itself is so blatantly destructive to what used to be a largely secular society, it's hard not to feel seething resentment, especially toward the religious leaders using blind faith to accumulate personal power and riches, and political figures who are using it to accomplish ideological and political dominance. I DO wish, however, there was more emphasis on the freedom itself, and it's power to transform perspective about life. The knowledge one's consciousness is not beholden to fear of a vengeful god, to whose petty whims we must devote every second of every hour of our lives, allows us to expand our awareness of what we are REALLY all about, what our lives REALLY represent, what existence REALLY is. But these 'hard' atheists are instead fatalistic nihilists who think life is a meaningless, depressing slog, and the best we can do is lash out at those of us who think, god or no god, life is a 'magical' journey of enlightenment. So be it. There's room for that too. It's just too bad those of us who wish to elevate our 'human natures' to something more optimistic and forward-thinking can't hold our own in the face of this onslaught of doom-and-gloom negativity. This would give people new to the site, also, a positive alternative to the religions they seek to escape, rather than simply caustic outbursts condemning them, a mirror anti-image to that which they wish to abandon. I for one, as an agnostic, realize I'll probably never have all the answers. Religion (and anti-religion) is an illusion of that. I DO know knowing there is a limit to what human beings are capable of knowing is in itself more knowledge than many people will ever possess (got that?), and that I can USE that wisdom to liberate myself into a world of discovery. Maybe this site will eventually evolve and mature. I have a feeling for that to happen, however, our society and culture, indeed entire planet, will have to evolve first. Meanwhile, you and I individually can think and express what we wish.

I stopped watching the news the day after the 2016 election, and only went back infrequently this year because of the virus and the riots. I was immediately struck by Trump's incredibly coarse language, which seemed to have worsened in the intervening years. He swears without actually using swear words. I've since gone back to boycotting the news. When Biden is elected I may watch again occasionally.

PC is simply 'society' telling you your views are outdated, passe, obsolete. That life has moved on, progress is being made, and your views and attitudes are no longer welcome and are no longer considered ideal.
"Who REALLY funded the Taliban to kill Americans?
Storm1752 comments on Jul 4, 2020:
I'd be tempted to NEVER leave Afghanistan. Why should we? And let the Talibam resume subjugating that people to Islamic oppression? It isn't costing us much. Why not make it our 51st state?
Epidemic of police racist violence. Fact or Fiction?
Storm1752 comments on Jul 4, 2020:
Before I watch the clip, I'll automatically, reflexively, say it's fiction. One truth is, I think, because of dislocations and imperfections in society as a whole, there are pockets of extreme violence and crime, usually or always in inner cities which are predominately black and Latino. This is not prejudice and/or racism; it is fact, in my opinion. Cops know this, of course, and also know their lives are in immediate danger in such locations, so are in a state of heightened alert, bordering on paranoia. And sure enough, these areas, described as "war zones" by many, are often the scenes of life-threatening situations featuring guns, including automatic weapons, which require police to make split-second decisions. It's not surprising they sometimes make mistakes. To call these mistakes "racist" is often fallacious.
How Trump could lose the election on every level and still remain president.
Storm1752 comments on Jul 4, 2020:
He obviously remains president because his term in office has not yet expired, and efforts to impeach him did not succeed. If he remains in office after November, I will be absolutely SHOCKED!
What do neo-Nordic beliefs have to do with racism?
Storm1752 comments on Jul 4, 2020:
I know this is blasphemy, and I don't necessarily believe it myself, but is it possible white people--as do all races--enjoy certain innate strengths not shared to the same degree by other peoples? We spend so much time denigrating, criticizing, condemning, white people for lording it over others, we never seem to ever acknowledge the good things they bring to the table. Is ANYONE willing to describe what those positive attributes are (which they may have admittedly abused)?
Happy Fourth of July?
Storm1752 comments on Jul 4, 2020:
I was PROUD to be an American because it meant it was a sophisticated and open-minded enough country to be able to take criticism, even condemnation, in stride. That was the country's greatest strength. In listening to, and learning from, critical voices it was able to learn and improve, constantly learning from mistakes and correcting them, thus ever improving, thus creating an ever more perfect union. Notice I didn't say PERFECT, but ever MORE perfect, never actually attaining the state of perfection, so always deserving of criticism. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. This reminds me of Jefferson's words, "...the PURSUIT of happiness," never actually attaining the state itself, for who can be truly happy when so many of our citizens are not happy, instead are miserable? But free to look for it, at times catching a glimpse of it, occasionally experiencing moments of it, even perhaps days, weeks, months, even years of it. But for most of our lives usually an elusive target. So we are constantly in pursuit of perfection, but smart enough to know that pursuit is constant, never-ending, most often or in extreme cases always, out of reach. But as long as we keep pursuing it, it WILL be within reach. It's when we STOP pursuing it that it drifts OUT of reach, and when that happens, hope fades, enthusiasm wanes, spirits flag. That's when I stop being PROUD to be an American.

Trump or no Trump, if it works as a prophylactic, it works. That'd be great. Like the virus itself, there is no political angle here.
