Your apology is not needed. It is clearly accepted that god(s) exist. Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are "gods"'? John 10:34 Gods are people. People are gods. Gods exist, people exist no appologies needed. Atheism illogical.

It's been years since I listened to AM Radio...one thing I'll never forgive Obama for is not at least TRYING to reinstill the Fairness Doctrine. I don't doubt ratings are better for Clear Channel et al. now, but like the doctrine says, it'd just plain UNFAIR and immoral and definitely undemocratic to allow the far right a monopoly, to say nothing of unconstutional. Isn't the First Amendment applicable? Of course it is. This monopoly has a profound political impact, I'm convinced. Why doesn't someone find just cause to sue? There must be a reason. @Pjsmylz You say, "whatever created DNA;" what IF nothing created DNA? What if it ALWAYS existed? I know, that's counterintuitive, because it seems to go without saying it HAD to have been created at some point. But if the universe has always existed (e=mc√ --. Energy and Mass are two forms of the same thing, so cannot be created or destroyed, ergo the Big Bang Theory is wrong, the Big Bounce says it's an eternal cycle), then so has DNA. BUT it may be irrelevant, if you say instead, 'Whatever causes DNA.' THAT is, the physical processes which cause DNA to form in the presence of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. Since (it's believed) these elements are everywhere, so is life. We're told 'god' wasn't created, has always been here, and will endure forever. Maybe 'god' is the universe. Does that make any sense? Like I said, I border on being Ignostic. It's a mystery because no matter how far down the labyrinthian path you go, you always end up back where you started. Maybe science will solve the riddle some day. Good luck. I just have a hard time believing in 'nothing.'

Having said THAT, I guess I'm more accurately an 'Ignostic Neo-Deist.' Whew! These labels get complicated sometimes! What that (sort of) means is, if there IS a 'god,' IT is so far beyond our comprehension it's really foolish and presumptuous (among other things) to even pretend to be able to talk about it intelligently. Finally, my (wild) guess is there IS something--certainly not a personal Abrahamic entity who knows we exist and with whom we have any kind of 'relationship'--which by some unknown definition we can refer to as 'god.' But we can only do so on this forum if we first go through a laborious explanation, and even then you're inviting a lot of blowback and a very tedious discussion by, usually, dogmatic, 'hard' atheists. So do me a favor? Don't tell anybody I even brought it up!

@AtheistInNC I tried to explain what I meant, but you're intent on demonising the entire thought process and to paint me as a white supremacist. I still have a few more entries to read and here's hoping they're not all as 'politely' condemnatory. I think there's a valid point to be made here but it doesn't seem so far I'm the one to make it. That is, I think there are real differences among the subspecies (the word meant more loosely in human terms than as scientifically applied to other animals), not differences which make one 'superior' to the others, but which may account for the white man's ability and willingness to embark on their disgraceful recent history of colonialism built upon technological superiority. Much of that may simply be an accident of history, and some of it may originate in real innate differences. I'm not an expert on the subject so maybe I shouldn't have brought attention to these meandering thoughts, since my musings were bound to attract considerable ridicule and scorn. So be it. It's happened before and it'll probably happen again. A 'herd mentality' seems to kick in; one person gets the ball rolling, so to speak, and others pile on. But there have been some interesting comments as well. I'll just reiterate my original idea, that there are actually some things to CELEBRATE about the accomplishments of 'white people' as a group (which you deny exist) which has been lost, buried under an avalanche of (justified) criticism, because of the deep and seemingly indelible stains of 'colonialism,' slavery, religious bigotry, and so on. Plus technology itself has been a double-edged sword, bringing us unparalleled and heretofore unthinkable prosperity, but at the same time to the brink of self-extinction. So I was asking a lot, maybe too much. I actually think we'd be better off melding into one big gene pool (which may be happening) wherein the best aspects of the genome as a whole were shared. (I read we'd all be mostly Asian!) Well, cast stones if you must. I'm just a poor white boy (stumbling all over myself) trying to make sense of it all.

@AtheistInNC Go crawl back under a rock? Thanks. I'll consider it. In the meantime, yes all human beings are members of the same species, or 'race' if you will, but like, for instance, dogs have different 'breeds,' we have different 'strains.' Yes a St. Bernard and a poodle and a doberman are all dogs, so share basic genetic traits, there are also undeniable differences. Does that make one dog "superior" to the others? No, of course not, but it DOES mean one is better operating in Alpine conditions, one is better at being a guard/attack dog, the poodle is usually regarded as being the best to train to do certain tasks, and so on. THEY ARE EQUAL as far as their intrinsic worth is concerned, but to ignore or deny obvious differences is to admit your ignorance, if not to yourself then to everybody else around you. A "synchopant to white power assholes?" That hurts my feelings. Try someone who recognizes some white people have taken their advantages and shaped them into blunt weapons to victimize the rest of humanity. THOSE people (and their descendants) do not regret their actions, as indicated by the persistence of racism today, but the rest of us of 'white extraction' DO regret it very much. All I'M saying is, can we not make the distinction between those people (the monied interests who destroyed Mayan, Aztec, Incan, and all North American civilizations in pursuit of riches, all Asian and Indian and African societies as well) and the rest of us, and acknowledge the good and useful and valuable things about us worth preserving? Why don't YOU go crawl under a rock? @Beowulfsfriend I'm using the word 'race' as one would use the word 'breed' if we were talking about dogs, say, or cats. And we're a species, right, wherever the word 'race' came from; we don't talk about the 'race' of dogs! Anyway, are you saying there are no differences among the various 'strains' or ethnic groups of human beings--physical, intellectual, general makeup as it were, and it all has to do with upbringing and culture? I'm not sure that's the case. I'm not saying it ISN'T the case, but to me it looks like there are basic differences among blacks, Hispanics, Asians, native Americans, Eskimos, etc., that can't be chalked up to environmental factors alone. I'm NOT saying whites are "superior," just different, but that would apply to all 'breeds.' (I say 'breeds' but I know nobody was 'bred.' Just a word. 'Strains' might be closer to the mark.)

@Rich177 There you go again with the name-calling...you really should do something about that. Lazy: in November, 2016 I got rear-rammed by a semi truck, which fractured my spine in three places (if you must know), so I have a physical disability. What's your excuse? What do YOU do which is so industrious? Nothing. You simply have knowledge of how to manipulate that FIAT currency you're so keen on criticizing. I don't buy the supply-side argument 'your kind' is always pushing. Less taxation equals more tax revenue? Baloney. That only works up to a point: about 30% is the figure I've heard. Yes of course states are always competing for business, and business will often go where taxes are lower and other incentives are higher. For instance, "Right to Work" states are popular, because they're union-free so the businesses can really stick it to employees. Duh. All that means is Big Business (ie, the Oligarchs) have succeeded in more or less doing away with union/worker protections on the federal level. Other federal regulations are also conveniently lacking, making this capital flight possible. This is a result of "federalism" run amok, power inappropriately devolving to the states because federal rules have been quietly eliminated by successive Republican administrations, Congressional actions, and the concerted and sustained 'lobbying' (bribery) of greedy business interests. These same interests lied to the American people (through pliant politicians) that they would reinvest the money saved in taxes into domestic industry; instead of course they exported that money (read, jobs) to Asia, Mexico, South America, etc.) where labor is plentiful and dirt cheap. A short analysis of the "green new deal:" it's a fantasy, of course, sort of like your libertarian fantasies from your angle. It's an environmental wet dream, how it SHOULD be if everybody took 'climate change' seriously, and if degradation/destruction of the environment meant as much as it arguably should. Clearly, as can be amply demonstrated via Fox News, AM Radio, and right-wing 'thinkers' in general, the natural world is simply another, minor, cost of production. Since that cost cannot be externalized, it is just denied outright. This is necessary, as you surely know, because corporations are people, with the same rights as individuals, a bit of pernicious fiction visited upon us by the Supreme Court sometime early on in the 19th century, people who MUST maximize profits for shareholders at ALL costs--the environment, workers' rights, you name it. Therefore it is their DUTY to lie if necessary to maximize profits. Earlier on in the history of the United States, corporations operated under charters, and had to demonstrate to government they were conducting themselves in the public interest. That ...

@Rich177 You're amazing. Just the fact you say I said I suggested we tax people 100% tells me you simply are either attempting to confuse/anger me or channel me into a non-productive dead end, or you haven't read what I wrote, or are creating a straw dog. Also, saying I suggested the problem is not taxing at a high enough rate is blatantly inaccurate. Of course I said nothing of the kind. Similarly, your apparently feigned and exaggerated condenscension leaves me with the distinct impression you wish not to address my various points, which I can repeat in distilled form: the Democrats have TRIED to work with Republicans to get closer to a balanced budget by offering to cut spending in return for a proportionate increase in taxes. They have consistently refused, insisting on budget cuts alone. In fact, whenever possible they do cut taxes alone, unilaterally, especially on those in the higher tax brackets. Now in a country of about 350 million people, spending can only be cut so much before the government itself becomes non-functional. If that is the GOAL, of course, this is not a problem; rather, it is a means to an end. Clearly, you're an Objectivist Libertarian. In my opinion, that is an extremely impractical, unrealistic position. In other words, you are not even TRYING to deal with reality. You are taking what you consider a principled stance, but it is largely a symbolic representation of what you consider an IDEAL state of affairs "in a perfect world," not a realistic, pragmatic one which would lead to effective governance, or even a productive conversation.. So I again find myself engaging with a non-serious person whose aim is not to compromise and accommodate, but rather establish a initial position and stick to it despite attempts to reach a deeper understanding of the issues involved. I'll continue this charade as long as you wish, but with regret and increasing disinterest, since nothing substantive is being accomplished, and more importantly, will not BE accomplished if this 'chat' continues past the point at which into it has already devolved, a pointless impasse. I WILL say it's too bad Republicans in Congress almost to a man, these days, have the same uncompromisingly absolutist attitude as you. It's really a 'miracle' anything gets done! @Rich177 The main point is, revenue SHOULD equal expenditures. Your personal attacks mean nothing to me, except to betray the weakness of your arguments. I doubt very many people are reading this anyway. No on wants to read garbage, which is what happens when people resort to name-calling. Republicans have deliberately created monstrous deficits in order to force the Democrats to agree to sharply curtailed spending. This has resulted in, among other things, severe understaffing of the FDA, the EPA, and all other agencies. It has resulted in sharp reductions in social services, among other things. And STILL there are deficits approaching a TRILLION dollars a year (and forget about this year!). The Pubs think, perhaps correctly, eventually a showdown (for real) will happen, and they will win, the government will be stripped to the skeleton, and it will shrink to pre-New Deal proportions. Either that, or they really do believe their supply-side fantasy, which I find unfathomable. Either that, or they hope eventually *they'll gain enough of a political advantage their brand of change will happen unilaterally, *most power will devolve back to the States, and/or *the incipient oligarchy will cement permanent dominance, and/or *an imminent Constitutional Convention will allow sweeping changes to our basic charter in their favor. Or some other fundamental change will occur. Short of that, it should be obvious the budget SHOULD be balanced, regardless of ideology. If it requires steep increases in taxation, it should occur. If there is a tax rebellion as a result, so be it. If that occurs and there are draconian cuts in spending as a result, so be it. There may be riots in the streets and/or many people may suffer and die, but in the long run the fiscal house would be put back in order. It can't go on this way, is for sure.

Study by candlelight in a cardboard box in the woods every night? Your living in an ideological box yourself. Knowing about the socialist systems in Europe, how can you justify hoarding your money while people starve? Don't you ever feel guilty? I'm assuming you use every tax dodge and loophole available to you and probably pay next to nothing, am I right? And you tell yourself it's okay because 'those people' are stupid, lazy bums, right? And you watch Fox News religiously and Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh are practically members of the family. Comfortably esconsed in your fantasy world, your rationalizations seem perfectly understandable, indeed praiseworthy. I read The Richest Man in Babylon...good advice, if you have that 10% to save every week. Believe it or not, a lot of people don't have it. Some people need that education at which you scoff; sometimes your sure-fire formula for success won't or can't work, things go wrong...not to YOU, of course, you're too smart for that, work too hard, are just too darn much of a Winner to end up like that. Some people aren't so lucky--oh sorry, luck has nothing to do with it, right? Tough guys like you make their OWN luck! Hahaha. Anyway, like it or not, government and bureaucracy are facts of modern Life, and are necessary for a reasonably efficient and smooth-functioning civilization to exist. Sorry if that upsets you. I'm also sorry if your ideas of Supermen overcoming all obstacles, and heroically beating all odds, to emerge victorious, is just a fantasy in most cases. As is your hero John Galt. Hank Rearden is just a character in a wildly improbable fantasy novel by a bitter woman, disillusioned by war. So rant on. Btw, I love my Social Security and 'government handouts,' which I earned and accept gratefully, thankful the government has done some things right in the past--hopeful it reverses it's current ruinous course set for us by the greedy Republicans. In my book, the only issue is, who gets the money? The super-rich and the military, or the lower- and middle-classes, who do most of the actual work instead of living off interest and capital gains? The rich know they were born on third base and didn't hit a triple, had advantages not available to less fortunate people, and don't care. Their concerns are for themselves, their friends and family, period. They want to continue aristocratic, dynastic rule. Only the government has the power to redistribute wealth and establish other avenues to upward mobility, so the lower classes have a shot at the good life, rather than society ossifying into a rigid class system.

Economic Darwinism, otherwise known as supply-side fraud, is the Law of the Jungle in disguise, tilting the rules to ensure the survival of those already the beneficiaries of unearned advantages and perks, hoarders of that which is only theirs through sheer circumstance and coincidence. You think you deserve your wealth due to your innate superiority, but the truth is your wealth was handed to you on a silver platter, and much of it should be redistributed to those less fortunate, whether you like it or not. Whoa yourself. The "welfare state" is the only thing saving many people from from abject proverty and destitution. The problem is there is only just enough welfare for that, but not enough to lift them OUT of subsistence-level poverty and into middle-class prosperity...for that is needed training/education and other support---housing, food, day care, health care, etc. In other words, much MORE welfare is needed, not less, and fat cats like you need to pay for it.

@redbai Yes, it IS subjective. What YOU consider evidence, I may not, and vice versa. That:s the nature of circumstantial evidence. It depends on your personal bias whether you want to accept it. If there is ENOUGH circumstantial evidence, if it piles up, then it becomes harder and harder to dismiss it "beyond a reasonable doubt." If one is absolutely convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt there is no 'god,' personal or impersonal, no amount of circumstantial and/or anecdotal evidence would convince one to reconsider. That's might be a 'hard' atheist. An AGNOSTIC, however, might at least be swayed to amend his or her opinion, though understanding short of conclusive, definitive proof (which would in all likelihood be hard or impossible to obtain at this stage in mankind's development), a final conviction is ultimately impossible. So the agnostic, unlike the 'hard' atheist, will never be able to be absolutely sure.

@AmyLF Some of these people are beyond me. They say the two parties have in recent years melded together and are now the Corporate Party. No difference between the two. That is so untrue and unfair it just stuns me anybody could say that. Not to get too into the weeds because it sounds like we're in complete agreement, but it makes me wonder about their sanity, veracity, motives, and goals. Are they deluded, trolls, stealth Republicans, or just SO far out in the boondocks of the political spectrum they've lost all perspective. The problem is, not ENOUGH leftists, socialists, progressives, and even moderates VOTE and so are themselves in large part to blame for the gross distortions we see. Blame 'Citizens United' all you want for the obscene amount of money in campaigns. Certainly warranted. But that's no excuse to unilaterally disarm and give up! I think of years from now when the 'Baby Boomers' (hate that label) die off along with many of the values they, WE, espouse, and fear the U.S. will be left with generations to come of propagandized, indoctrinated, brainwashed upcomers who might be prey to the nascient theocratic oligarchy looming it's ugly head. Our time may be rapidly fading. I hope I'm wrong.

@Fred_Snerd Oh, that...heh, heh... Oh you know Fred, just a difference of opinion!😊We're all adults here... I just I just thought if a LOT of liberals, progressives, radical anarchists, communists and socialists (to name a few) didn't vote, then PROBABLY relatively MORE conservatives, right-wingers, gun nuts, anti-abortionists, Ayn Rand Objectivists, oligarch toadies, etc., etc., WOULD get elected, which I personally think would be a bad thing. I know, I know, there's no difference in the U.S. between the 'liberal' party and the 'conservative' party, but darn it, I can't help selling out anyway. Nobody's paying me anything, me living a 'counterculture-ish' and reclusive life in a remote cabin in North Florida, but I MUST be because I DO vote. Just not purist enough, I guess, to understand how not doing so is in any way helpful. Well, thanks to you and people like you taking your heroic stand, the majority Republicans (who are really the minority except for all the brainwashing) will hopefully eventually enslave us to the point armed rebellion and/or civil war will break out. Hey, COULD happen...THEN 'we' will take over and everything will be great. Thanks again.

@Amzungu Yeah there might be SOME truth there, which he fit into his cosmology, which he learned from someone else, and obviously believed. He had his own unique 'belief system,' and probably had some mystical experiences which were probably authentic. But the source of whatever he believed was, I proffer, more basic to the stuff of life itself, energy and matter. And nobody seems to know for sure WHAT that is. Let's say he was in touch with some 'true' source of inspiration which was then filtered through his belief system to produce a fictionalized VERSION of A 'truth.' Right? Best I can do. When you think of all the brilliant men and women who were equally convinced they knew THE truth but, perhaps like Origen, instead also only 'knew' a fictionalized version of it, you might think before we decide for OURselves what the 'truth' is, we should discount or discard about, oh, 99.9% of it.

That's legit. The only response I have is maybe some day with more research, more sophisticated equipment, etc., we might be able to trace and pinpoint how it occurs, IF it occurs. If it does, it's obviously not magic, and the research done up to now certainly is interesting, if not compelling. As far as, is this 'evidence' of 'god?' No. The truth is, we'd have to establish if it's real or not first, before we could even figure out if it's even a clue to ANYTHING.

@TimeOutForMe Thanks. When people dismiss ALL of it because they think it's an admission of SOME kind of 'god,' I partially agree because while I'm an 'atheist' when it comes to the 'god' most of us were brought up with, the door for me is wide open when it comes to either an impersonal 'god' which probably doesn't include a separate entity. What I mean by that I have no idea. A new label is 'Ignostic,' which means someone who thinks the whole concept is so beyond human comprehension it can't be and/or isn't worth talking about. I usually don't go that far, because I've read about reincarnation, which seems real, though does that mean there's a 'god?' Or psychism, which through reading about Edgar Cayce and other convincingly genuine clairvoyants seem to point to SOMETHING beyond our five senses which give one reason the think it could be called 'god.' We STILL don't know what that is, of course. So I don't know how anyone, frankly, could be 100% atheist. About the biblical guy, fine, no sale, but my theory is we will one day KNOW exactly the nature of energy and matter, and if there is (as I think) a "collective unconscious," and how people like Cayce accessed the information they did (and presumably do), and how some children apparently remember past lives, etc. About aliens, I watch all the Ancient Aliens programs, and c'mon, there's a LOT there that just can't be explained away, and there are regularly sightings by extremely believable witnesses like military pilots and law enforcement and many others, and some pretty amazing video. MY only questions are CAN they travel here from there (lots of theories) and IS it possible we are the only inhabitable planet in the universe (unlikely but possible). Otherwise I'm pretty convinced we have been and even are now being visited. Anyway, I wish these obnoxiously 'no way, no how' atheists would lighten up and admit they DON'T KNOW and it's okay.
There could hardly be anything more beautiful... [mymodernmet.com]
