Storm1752 comments on Jun 11, 2019:
Everybody dies. In every conceivable way imaginable. Not much consolation, is it? It's not meant to be. There is none which will help. Except the possibility there is an afterlife, but I can't offer that with certainty. But as an agnostic, I CAN offer the comfort it is possible. Reincarnation, for example, or rather the circumstantial 'evidence' it MAY be real, is one such way a human being's existence could continue. I'd suggest reading about it, and related topics. Not "god-centered" sources; that's not necessary. Religion isn't either. Many atheists agree there's at least a sliver of a chance; many scoff. Think for yourself and look into it. You may find some solace there. One OTHER source is Stoic literature. Strictly secular, it has many things to say about death, dying, and grief. Worth a look.
I'm wondering what you all really think of women who are comfortable and open with their sexuality.
Storm1752 comments on Jun 10, 2019:
Be more specific, please? What "certain things" are expected? Anal? S&M? BDSM? Whips and chains? Hanging you upside down? Water sports? Or are you talking about something else altogether? No I don't think an "openly sexual" woman is expected to do anything specific.
I'm wondering what you all really think of women who are comfortable and open with their sexuality.
Storm1752 comments on Jun 10, 2019:
Stoic philosophers put a premium on ACTIONS and BEHAVIOR, rather than words or epistemology (I know, a big word, designed to impress), which separates opinion from established fact. MY opinion is establish what you want, If it's sex, ignore the spoken words or use it to your advantage. If it's respect, you might end up being boring. Personally, i wouldn't worry about respect. Look at me; I get no respect AND no sex! (I'm impotent because I masturbate too much to lesbian porn, but you know what I mean... plus I have mental/emotional issues but that's neither here nor there.) My POINT is, go for the sex and worry about respect later! Stoics like to say, concern yourself only with yourself, who you know yourself to be, AND with what you can control. If it is something caused or created outside yourself and out of your control (such as somebody else's OPINION of you), it's not something to concern yourself with. Think of it this way, if two people have sex, they get to know each other in the process and if respect is deserved, it will come. It's a pet theory of mine: to get to the sex, two people usually have to go through this nerve-wracking "getting to know you" phase before you get to the sex, right? Well, what might happen if the sex comes FIRST, and in the process you get to know each other? And at this juncture respect grows! Anyway I'm rambling as usual...not to mention probably not making sense. Oh well. So that's my OPINION. I don't know if there are establshed facts about this sort if thing. In the normal order (friends first, then sex) equals respect? "I won't sleep with just ANYONE!" IN the inverse order (sex first, then friends) equals sluttiness? "I'd fuck a lamp post!"---not necessarily if you're dealing with enlightened people. So perhaps a leap of faith is required and a strong ego.
Just curious. Who would not have joined this forum if it was called atheist.com?

Not me, because I'm agnostic. If below the headline it said, "Oh, and agnostics, etc...." I would flee, because the atheists would think they run the joint even more than they already do! And they'd have even more of an upper hand in all these endless "discussions" we have about god, no god, maybe god, who's what, are atheists agnostic, are agnostics atheists, what's the difference, etc., etc. No thanks.

Storm1752 comments on Jun 9, 2019:
The main things about it are to not be afraid of misfortune; the fear is almost always worse than the actual event (but not always!). When it DOES happen--and it sometimes does--one simply deals with it. Also, mortality and how small and insignificant we really are...religion tries to blow us up into this godling-type entity much more important than we are. (At our best we can be pretty amazing, but gods we most certainly are not and never will be.) Knowing this is liberating; we are free to simply live our lives and find happiness as best we can. Another thing the importance of being a good person, not because some "god" threatens us if we aren't, but because we're happier when we do the right thing (unless you're a sociopath or psychopath or in some other way unhinged). Finally, being anti-materialistic and constantly practicing poverty. I hate greed and ego-driven ambition. That's stoicism. When I DO withhold help to a needy person I feel terrible about it, because that's often been me. There is no point hoarding wealth to inflate the ego...we all go to a common grave. All that said, as an agnostic, I DO think anything's possible, so maybe we ARE held accountable in some kind of afterlife, etc., and it'd be nice if we were rewarded and "punished" in equal measure to the way we lived our lives--reincarnation comes to mind--but that's beside the point. Virtue is it's own reward. I don't know if that's textbook "stoicism" but that's how I understand it. My blueprint for living a good life is the Desiderata. I haven't compared it to Stoic principles, whatever they actually are, but I have a feeling it's very much so in spirit.
I'd like to tell how I got to Agnosticism.

When you said, "...stopped going to the miss" I was going to ask, "So you 'converted to straight?" It would have hopefully been humorous. We're all friends here. Not a homophobic bone in my body, not even an atom. Most (all?) my girlfriends have been bi. Not unusual. Lesbian? Maybe a little, but no mystery to me! And yes I'd like to hear that story. I was an altar boy. Catholic through my first year college. Agnostic at, oh, 16 or so, though I didn't know the term. Studied the Baltimore Catechism, graduated to the Aquarium Gospel of Jesus the Christ, all the New Age stuff, finally threw up my hands and gave up. A few years ago discovered 'Jesus' is pure myth...imagine my surprise! The shock! The horror! Now like you I am pure agnostic, with educated to half-baked ideas and guesses floating around in my head. Life has never been more fun. The awesome mystery of it all is breathtaking. I don't even WANT to figure it all out. Religious people don't know what they're missing.
Good morning and happy Friday! Today's question: Do you think aliens are real?
Storm1752 comments on Jun 8, 2019:
I think so. The real question is, are they able and willing to visit us? That's an open question. There ARE phyical laws to obey, such as the speed of light. I personally think there may be ways around it, like black holes, intra- or inter-dimensional travel, etc., but that's just speculation. Plus there may be other universes, if we ARE the only inhabited planet in this one, which is extremely hard to believe! That aside, I do think they ARE visiting us, but have a prime directive not to interfere. I even think they MAY have mated with us and created the subspecies humanoid homo sapiens. That MAY be the elusive "missing link." Pure speculation with some scanty circumstantial (?) evidence. Bur I love to speculate, so there you go.
To think that our human species of all the species on earth and of all the "earths" in the universe ...

Um, excuse me? Ever hear of a mirror?!? Believe it or not, it's a two-way street. Now I'm sure you're the exception, but many women are not perfect; vanity in particular can be a common fault. Also a perfectionist streak particularly unbecoming. I myself am a perfectionist--it's a terrible trait which makes me miserable, and in part causes the panic attacks for which I take medication! It is an accident of birth one person is male and the other female. Probably being female is lucky for you. On the other hand, it means you have to deal with "men" on a continual basis, which must really suck. Sorry about that. I know I'm apparently taking seriously what you meant humorously. Only "apparently" because I'm joking too! I think. Almost certainly. It WAS pretty funny. Sort of.

Being agnostic and being a close-minded dick are 2 different things
Storm1752 comments on Jun 7, 2019:
I couldn't agree with you more. To be a dogmatic, "aint no way, aint no nothing" atheist is to shut yourself off from the specks of truth all around us. To say there's no Abrahamic god and to extropolate from that there is NOTHING except what our five senses tell us, is to dismiss any paranormal or extrasensory phenomena out of hand, when there is good, valid, scientifically verifiable circumstantial reason to think it could very well be real. Reincarnation comes to mind. While it may be comforting in an absolutist sense to say, "If it hasn't been proven WITHOUT A DOUBT to be true, then it must be highly suspect or downright false," ignores and summilarily rejects the "I don't know" from the equation. In a thousand years, when our species has learned infinitely more than we know now, we may be able to say conclusively whether or not there's, say, an afterlife, or the true nature of the physical world, and maybe even IF there is some essence unlike anything we call "god" today, which ties the whole thing together and actually explains what the f**k we're doing here. Who knows? I certainly don't. But speculating about it makes life a LOT more interesting, and to nihilistically think it's all totally meaningless and we're just freak accidents signifying about as much as a speck of fecal matter on a cockroach's behind, is not only depressing, it's perhaps even small-minded and wrong. But I'll leave that an open-ended question for future generations to figure out. I'll just stumble along in the dark and ask my dumb, wild-eyed questions which have no answers and get old and die like everybody else. THAT is one thing I DO know.
I’ll tell you what’s wrong...

I would advise against taking a "few shorter, easier steps" and becoming an atheist (not that there's anything WRONG with that...oh no). Being agnostic simply opens your mind to the infinite possibilities, while atheism shuts the door on oh, 95% of them. If there IS such a thing as reincarnation, paranormal activity, extra-sensory perception, psychic ability, and countless other phenomena, there may be an explanation we do not yet understand. I wouldn't call that 'god,' necessarily, because who knows? Any person honest with her- or himself has to admit we have very few (if any) answers to the mysteries of life, and simply saying there AREN'T any mysteries is dogmatic nonsense. Keep your mind open. You'll be happier that way.

I've posted this before but every time I do I get berated for doing so.
Storm1752 comments on Jun 2, 2019:
I'm not going to "berate" you. Speaking strictly for myself, those words DO have meaning. I was brought up Catholic and though I've ceased to believe in the thought-images of god I formed growing up, those images remain. They'll always be there. As an agnostic "deist," I do THINK (without evidence) the word 'god' by SOME definition is relevant. I just don't think any human being AT THIS STAGE IN OUR EVOLUTION has any idea what that might mean. We may never know. So I just go about the business of living my life, confident there is no such entity 'Yahweh' or the others, no hell, maybe an afterlife (?), probably reincarnation, other paranormal phenomenon source unknown, and other mysteries including life itself all around us. So, yes, those words have plenty of meaning.

Storm1752 comments on May 23, 2019:
Maybe aliens, if a far superior, advanced super-race (or MANY such races spanning the universe), ARE the true god. After all, if you redefine 'god' as not necessarily always existing, but as coming INTO existence billions of years ago, eons before we came along, with advances in knowledge, technology, cybernetics, artificial intelligence, extra-dimensional travel, immortal life, ad infinitum, there is no comprehending the potential scope of their power. I doubt they're fighting galactic wars or such nonsense---they would have screened that out of their DNA a long, long time ago. BUT, would they intervene to save the planet and/or us from ourselves? I don't know. There must be untold planets like this one. And anyway, it would eventually recover if we destroyed it. Why would they care if one tiny, childish, ignorant, and marginally intelligent species finished itself off? Maybe the strong, smart, enlightened, successful planetary denizens survive on their own. Maybe we're just beyond hope. Maybe the explanation of 'god' which seems to disprove gods' very existence is actually the correct one: maybe god just doesn't care about human suffering. If humans fail, what of it? They are perhaps ready to assist if we prove ourselves worthy of assistance. But if our genetic codes are irredeemably messed up, the reasoning goes, or for some other reason we constitute a failed experiment in, say, alien-ape cross-breeding, or some other procedure, so be it. Pull the plug and let it collapse of its own weight. Start over. Lots of different possibilities. That's why I'm agnostic.
Why Trump wants to be impeached If the Democrats push for impeachment, there will be a trial in...
Storm1752 comments on May 23, 2019:
What IS the evidence? Forget about short-term machinations, what really counts is the truth. Democrats are not Republicans. They impeached Clinton on ridiculous charges and suffered a humiliating defeat. On the other hand, it weakened Clinton as well. In the end, Clinton is percieved as one of our better presidents. George W. Bush was not impeached, but he is widely percieved as one of our worst presidents.Trump is in this latter category, regardless of whether he is impeached or not. The real problem is, Democrats are as a whole less religious, less ideologically driven, less united by these twin pillars, and thus are less likely to VOTE. It really has nothing to do with impeachment. If Democrats percieve individually their very survival is at stake, they will vote. If they vote, Democrats win. Abortion and gun control work for Republicans because they think god is on their side, and in a way they are right. The IDEA of god unites them. What unites Democrats? Liberal secularism/agnosticism/atheism? Class warfare? Economic disparities caused by the rotting away of the middle class? Racism? Anti-war sentiments? All and much more SHOULD unite them, but they don't. There is nothing as strong as religion, as unifying, in the Democrats' camp, at the very least. Impeaching or not impeaching Trump is beside the point. The very fact this deeply-flawed, godless man is president speaks volumes: HE may or may not be religious, but he embraces a religious agenda. If Democrats were united in a DISbelief in god, they would win. If most people felt as strongly as most of the people who populate this site, and VOTED, Democrats would win. We are increasing in number, but the religious still predominate. That's the bottom line, not impeachment. In a battle between god and no god, god still wins.

Storm1752 comments on May 22, 2019:
A BIT bi-curious? In what way, exactly? When you wrap your hand around your big cock and go through your rolodex of images and fantasies as you stroke yourself hard, what comes to mind, usually? Women, of course...what kind of women? Old girlfriends? A favorite scenario? I'm asking. I'm really curious. When you mention 'bi-curious,' do you think of sucking or being sucked? No anal, I'm sure. Gross! Any particular situation? The shower down at the spa? A swingers' party? You MUST have something in mind...you can tell me. We're all friends here.
Hey guys. What's your preference when it comes to dirty talk?
Storm1752 comments on May 22, 2019:
I want you to organize a FREE adult chat line, Wildflower. Staffed with well-known celebrity porn stars, iconoclasts, rebellious teenagers, MILFs, ED doctors, vaginal orgasm experts, and the like... and a special high-security area where people could throw rotten tomatoes at Catholic priests, biblical scholars, shriveled-up pro-life matrons, evangelical preachers, and anti-porn activists, to name a representative few. Occasonally we could have a shout-off between the two groups. Filmed live, of course. Special prizes awarded for best erotica-laced suggestiveness,, graphic stream-of-thought musings of boner-inducing, wetness-stimulating naughtiness of five minutes duration, or more.

I like overthrowing.... Patriarchy! Dual control! A law which mandates 50-50 representation. Then, later, when it becomes clear women are much better at running things, we can relax the 50-50 rule to AT LEAST 50-50. That way men can't elbow their way back into full-fledged dominance (which is what must have happened in the first place). I think everybody would have more sex if women were in charge, for one thing. Pussy worship would be the new 'religion,' but secular, of course. THEY would decide how to institute the new regime. Men would just have to get with it, and shut up for a change... But since I'm a man (unfortunately) I have no clue what a Matriarchy would look like. For one thing it'd have to be the RIGHT women...we wouldn't want Lynne Cheney and Michelle Bachmann in charge! Ugh! We could make Nina Hartley the Minister of Recreation. Wildflower could organize the Re-Education Schools. Elizabeth Warren could handle finances. Megan Fox could do SOMETHING, maybe create for herself a cabinet-level portfolio to make things...prettier! Yeah! Too many ugly men, for one thing, put 'em on a diet and mandate toupees!! Glam things up! Outlaw shitty music! And so on. Anyway, that's a start.
Update: this is where I'm camped out at for a couple weeks.

Looks nice and cool. I'm jealous--stuck in Florida and it's almost June! Hopefully I can settle my business here soon and head north to a place like that! Now I remember why I bought my RV in the first place...it's an okay 1996 Class B Coach House, needs a generator and work on frig. But it's getting there! What's yours? (Blew it up...a Itasca Navion? Nice!) Looks roomy.
Thought I would share a few more pics of the claim.

Who was Jesus ?
Storm1752 comments on May 22, 2019:
No, Jesus did not exist. Outside the bible, no contemporary historian, or any person AT ALL, made mention of him. All the "facts" (historical data) in the new testament are warped, twisted, skewed and distorted beyond recognition. For instance, there was no such place as 'Nazareth.' No town, hamlet, burg, waystation, nothing, and no collection of human beings called Nazarenes (unless you count an obcure Jewish sect, but that's an entirely different matter),. The place now called Nazareth was created long after the time in question by people needing it to exist for theological reasons. When 'Jesus' (didn't) live, that particular spot on the map was a graveyard, and there was perhaps one hut for the caretaker. The new testament was written by men who certainly didn't live in that area at that time, were in fact probably well-educated Romans who invented an anti-Jewish religion from bits and pieces of old "mystery religions" which preceded Christianity, and which themselves were invented by men. There is NO evidence of ANY kind, that a man fitting his description existed; in fact all the historical records indicate he did not. Look it up.
There is clear evidence that humans invent gods.
Storm1752 comments on May 22, 2019:
Just the obvious thought if there IS such a thing as 'god' all these gods are false and we just don't have enough information to be running around making up religions! Check with me in a million years or so when the human race has grown up.
As some of you may know there is a new organization called Fight The New Drug.
Storm1752 comments on May 22, 2019:
I love porn and I doubt most porn actors and actresses (of course there are always exceptions, especially if you're talking about human trafficking, which I am not) want to be "rehabilitated." I just wish porn would get to the 'next level' more quickly and become the art form it deserves to be. But it's getting there if you know where to look. Catholics are hypocrites, as are most if not all Christians.
Can an atheist be a hippy?
Storm1752 comments on May 21, 2019:

There are athletes who are agnostic atheist. However are any of them progressive or liberal?
Storm1752 comments on May 21, 2019:
I watch the NFL and sometimes the NBA for the game, period. I don't care what they eat, who they're dating, or what their political views are or their opinion of god is. I watch Tom Cruise movies because they're entertaining. I vote on the issues. I like Dylan music because it used to be great. When I consume content about god or lack thereof, I listen to and read stuff by Carrier, Hitchens, et al. I don't CARE what Athlete A thinks about god. That said, if I was an atheist baseball player I'd want to be able to concentrate on hitting home runs or pitching shutouts and not attract a circus. I'm sorry, but the Christian Thought Police are still way too powerful to invite their wrath. It's about facing, recognizing, and bowing to reality. A true agnostic and/or atheist is too smart and pragmatic to do otherwise. Just my humble opinion.

Good morning! Today's question: What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?
Storm1752 comments on May 20, 2019:
First I have to think of an accomplishment...umm...does surviving this long in the first place count? My perserverence in the face of repeated and prolonged disasters, to the point I may finally be on the verge of true retirement, and be able to avoid the more unpleasant aspects of life until...I either die or am forced into re-engaging with reality. Hopefully the former! How's that?

I have no shame, but I'm willing to explore YOUR shame. I want to explore a women's bisexual and lesbian fantasies. I want them to be honest about it. THAT'S what interests me. But I'm weird like that. . If you want straight "dirty" talk, I can try, really try, if that's what she (or he) wants, but I don't think I'm very good at it. True, that's never stopped me before from making a fool out of myself. I'm game. As a woman, why don't you tell me what you want to talk about? I'll talk. If a guy wants to talk about his male fantasies, I'm also open to that. But most straight (or bi) men won't talk about that. I don't know why. Lots of women are curious about it, and the thought of it turns them on as much as girl-girl stuff turns on men. But these are the random thoughts of a disorganized mind.
What's the biggest mistake you've ever made while at work or in your personal life?
Storm1752 comments on May 19, 2019:
I've made so many mistakes I lost count a long time ago. Make a mistake, correct it as best you can, move on to the next mistake. Life is a series of mistakes. The best role model for this is Tom Brady--yes, the quarterback. Had no business winning his last three Super Bowls, made mistake after mistake. But did he dwell on them? No, if he had those games would have been lost. Like in the movie Vanilla Sky, "Every day is another chance to turn it all around." Dwell on your mistakes and you're doomed to repeat them. Move on and you get another chance to NOT repeat them. To get it right. Having said that, my LAST big mistake was, um, let's see...
if your mother was on her deathbed and she begged you to pray with her.

Do atheists value life more than theists considering that they don't believe in a afterlife
Storm1752 comments on May 19, 2019:
I can't speak for atheists, but as an agnostic I value life infinitely more, because a theist values a human body only as the repository of the 'soul,' whose sole mssion is to escape natural life and enter the supernatural realm. If there IS an afterlife, great, I'll enjoy it when the time comes, but I don't see THIS life as a waystation, a bus stop in a seedy part of town, to get through as quickly as possible.

I wish we could go back to when it was simple and your current SO was THE one, forever and ever! Of course, they weren't, and one is destroyed by that realization, and the baggage compartment grows over the years to overflowing and ends up taking up the entire jumbo jet, and finally you end up afraid to say 'BOO!' But that's life.
I am not an Atheist, I am Agnostic. There is a difference, actually a huge difference.

Are we suffering from existential dread or the real thing?
Storm1752 comments on May 18, 2019:
I feel dread, of dying, mostly because I'm having a heck of a good time and I'll hate to see it end. Plus, I'm agnostic, which means I'm pretty sure no one knows what they're talking about, including me, so I take nothing seriously. What, me worry? Who cares?!? So you see I'm an intentional fool and damned proud ot it! Try it some time.

Storm1752 comments on May 18, 2019:
Yeah I thought the same thing, and then over time I realized what a strong pull our upbringing and conditioning (brainwashing) has on us. That's also why I periodically revisit sites like 'Jesus Did Not Exist,' and others, as a refresher course. Sort of like going to AA from time to time for a long-time alcoholic, to remind himself how bad it really was, and how stupid it would be to ever go there agsin. So I occasionally dive into the mosh pit with other agnostics and atheists if some post catches my eye, and wallow around about some 'issue' or another, usually putting a dig in at some pessimistic atheist or whatever...not for everybody but I like to get my hands dirty occasionally. If you are really so immune to your programming, congratulations. We are SURROUNDED by this crap 24/7, and sometimes I feel that gravitational pull, so I turn on my booster rockets to get myself back into the proper orbit. Otherwise I go to my other groups in here about camping or naked women pics or something else...food, Elon Musk...quite a few good ones. About the religion thing, maybe you'll feel the need some day. Other sites? I don't know. Maybe somebody else could recommend one...
Wrong! I once wrote an essay called “Wrong”.
Storm1752 comments on May 18, 2019:
The Romans got 'Jesus' to say that, amoung other things, because they wanted the Jews to behave themselves. 'Jesus' also said to give to Caesar what was his, in the form of taxes, of course. They also got the waterwalker to say his 'kingdom' was not of this earth. In other words, the messiah the Jews were waiting for, who was going to deliver an earthly paradise? Uh-uh, wasn't going to happen! This Jesus character was some kinda pro-Roman dude, wasn't he? And didn't have much good to say about all those Jewish rabble-rousers who were causing Rome so much trouble...hmmm...wonder why that was? Couldn't have been because the Romans made him up, could it? Nahhh...

Storm1752 comments on May 12, 2019:
I'm not an atheist, I'm agnostic. I just express my opinions, without announcing I'm agnostic. Since most people are agnostic, I encounter few or no problems. Besides, the subject never comes up. Why do you feel the need to "come out" as anything? Do you incite arguments because you enjoy the discussions it generates? To crystallize your own point of view? I used to have theological debates with my devout Catholic mother, but I'm bored with it now. I just live my life.
Religion and tradition repressed people and kept them stupid.
Storm1752 comments on May 12, 2019:
Morality has nothing to do with it. Plus your definitions are wrong. Freedom means not having to obey anyone telling you what to do. Science is facts, as best we know them. Religion is the opposite of facts. The confusion comes in when someone.SAYS something is a fact, but it isn't, thus mis-using the word. So what you are talking about is confusion based on a mis-use of words. Morality comes in when something is used or mis- used based on precise or imprecise use or mis-use of words. This is done to either shed light on the truth (science/facts) or to obfuscate the truth (religion/faith) for either objective knowledge, or subjective belief. The truth bestows freedom; faith demands blind obedience.

How Can We Create Inclusive Community?
Storm1752 comments on May 7, 2019:
Atheists are just another form of pendantic, dogmatic true believers, and if you dare to disagree with their absolute certainty there is no god or afterlife in any form or definition you are WRONG. Agnostics are much more open-minded. I for one don't think there's a god if you mean a "supreme being," but I realize our civilization is very young and likely to collapse anyway, because of that very facet of human nature which leads to such absolutist thinking. Maybe if the human species evolves, and learns to respect other points of view, it will survive long enough to actually learn more about the universe, and come up with more nuanced and sophisticated ideas about the nature of life in all its dimensions. In the meantime we're stuck with this.
