Who really has the moral high ground? Certainly NOT the USA. [twitter.]
Surfpirate comments on Nov 30, 2020:
Cuba is a small country and is so close to the USA that it was long considered part of 'America's Backyard'. In light of this fact it is quite amazing that the country has managed to hold out against its giant neighbour after it declared itself independent and not just a hegemony to be exploited by powerful American interests. It has been punished for 75 years for daring to be independent and since the fall of the Soviet Union there has been no other nation to come to its aid if the Pentagon were to be told to take it back with military force when embargoes failed to do the job and when the hundreds of assassination attempts failed to get rid of its leader Fidel Castro. It occurs to me that perhaps that is the point, to hold up Cuba to the rest of America's Backyard as an example of what happens to banana republics that dare to ascert their independence. Haiti is a similar example to the descendents of African slaves who rose up and slaughtered their French masters more than 2 centuries ago. The Dominecan Republic stands in stark contrast to it's Haitian neighbour which is splits the island of Hispaniola with. There are examples being made but they are not moral or high in their intentions.
I'm dying laughing here.

Anyone with thoughts on the idea of a basic universal income for all?
Surfpirate comments on Apr 26, 2018:
I believe that a shift to basic universal income would take a radical shift in the world view for Americans who have been programmed since birth to believe that capitalism is one of the great pillars of civilization, along with democracy. This is rather ironic considering that the American system has morphed into a corporatocracy over the past half century and this subverts democracy and free enterprise. People believe that programs like social welfare are regressive but they readily accept the importance of corporate welfare in the form of tax incentives, grants and bailouts, it's very strange. Steve Hughes presents the idea in a comedic way.

Hebrews and American Indians - Land Claims
Surfpirate comments on May 17, 2018:
Did the Jewish people have a right to the lands of Israel after 2 millennium of absence, it's unlikely that such a claim would stand up in a normal court of law but the right of the Jewish people to buy a chunk of land from the British who had stolen it by force of arms is certainly legal. There are only a few ways to claim land, be born to it as a birth right, buy it from the current owner and seize it by force, these are the time honoured methods of claiming title to land. I would argue that the Jewish people bought the original tract of land from the British and have used it effectively as a beach head to seize more lands by force of arms and are continuing to expand to this very day. Some would argue that the Zionists who seem to be in charge in Israel will only be happy when they achieve the area of land known as Greater Israel but this would mean taking land from several Arab countries so expect a lot more blood shed. As to the native peoples' claim to land in North America, those can be settled in the courts because of their birth right or through purchase of ancestral lands. As the chief of one of the bands that owns a very successful casino that I built the hotel for once told me, 'Don't worry about us, we're getting our land back, one pull of the slot machine arm at a time.'

Are religions are essentially death cults, the fear of death is the premise for their existence and the underlying power of all religions. It stands to reason that atheists would be less fearful of death than those who are members of a death cult and all the dread that goes with it. If you have sinned you are going to eternal damnation and they all know that they have done their fair share of sinning, hence the anxiety. :)

The pottery in this part of South America was very advanced and the glazes were as good as anything the greeks or romans were producing, those glazes also survived quite well but not as well as the pottery from Peru which is very arid and this helped preserve these pieces, mostly collect by grave robbers and then sold to archaeologists. The sand dunes are hundreds of feet high along this section of coastal Peru and it is very dry indeed as evidenced by this mummified dwarf that was found in a burial site from Chan Chan.

In broad strokes I like that the 10 Commandments were implemented to undo the confusion caused by the hundreds of religious rules created by the priests but even this was too much for the knuckle dragging, bronze age primitives to understand so iron age Jesus is sent back with just 2 rules - love your brothers and sisters and also love god which we are all expressions of, so really just one rule - LOVE. Still fucking that one up in a big way. The other general premise I like is that Lucifer is portrayed as the great evil and cause of suffering because he insisted that humankind have freewill, all the suffering of humanity is linked to this concept and god heaps pain and suffering on his creation because it has the audacity to want to be free. Makes a person wonder just where the evil truly lies, fortunately most believers let that one fly right over their little heads, bowed to the ground in fear and supplication.

The jungle behind the luxurious mansion I was build was littered with the dusk masks that my local workers used to wipe their asses with and then place on top of their shit so they wouldn't step in it on their next trip into the jungle. The owner of the property intervened and I was reinstated immediately, my men got to keep their latrine on site which I insisted my white workers and myself use instead of going back to the hotel where my white workers lived, that insured that there was always toilet paper and it was kept clean.

Why can't the US be more like Canada? You have a problem with someone? You talk it out and if that doesn't work then you just punch them in the face a couple of times until you feel better, then you apologize, offer them a hand up off of the floor and buy them a beer. If the guy's nose is broken, no big deal, a trip to the emergency room is free and they'll reset it in no time. All of this guns, guns, guns mentality is just silly - it's much easier to fix a broken nose than it is to patch up a sucking chest wound - stop it.

I'm a commercial builder and that means I deal with tradespeople as well as architects and engineers and other professionals, so I have to adapt my speech to the audience. I don't use words like motherfucker, cocksucker, son of a bitch, fuckwit, or the C bomb in my meetings with professionals unless I truly want to shock them to the point their socks fall off but if I don't use all of the above words in various and creative combinations then most of my production people can't seem to understand me. The C bomb is the really tricky one, especially if I am talking to some of my Irish mates where it doesn't have the same connotation at all as it does with my North America associates but then I switch gears and start talking with people who take that completely the other way. I have never voted Liberal in my life but I think that when you compare Trudeau the Younger to other PM's going back to his father, he has a done a pretty good job, especially when you consider how much of a change he has attempted to make to the Canadian political system. That Trudeau has accomplished as much as he has in so short of time and on the heals of a Harper government that trashed so much of our democracy is something he should be praised for but instead there are vague suggestions of how he might have done better. Better than who? Harper? Chretien? What I see is a concerted attempt to bring Canada more in line with the US and this is by outside interests to the south of our border. I usually vote Green but I may actually vote Liberal for the first time in my life in this fall election.

LOL - retarded Amerikkans is what is wrong with it. They would vote for their own execution if they thought it supported Trump.
Why do humans have an unhealthy obsession with wars and sacrifice?
Surfpirate comments on May 3, 2018:
War is for suckers because the people doing the dying are never the ones reaping the rewards. Self sacrifice is what you should be willing to do for those your love and for the preservation of your core values but never for religion or nationalism. If I must kill another living being I want it to have more meaning than just because they were wearing a different coloured uniform than I was.
Today's haul from the truly awesome ABINGDON farmer's market! Heirloom tomatoes, affectionately ...
Surfpirate comments on Aug 25, 2018:
I love those ugly tomatoes, somehow it just reminds me of veggies from my grand dad's garden, the produce didn't always look perfect like those hot house tomatoes you'd get in the winter but they sure tasted perfect.

Trump's trade adviser says he's sorry for saying Canada's prime minister deserved a "special place ...
Surfpirate comments on Jun 12, 2018:
I just heard his 'Apology' from his interview on FoxNews, he seems to apologize to his boss Trump for screwing up his ad hominem attack on the Canadian Prime Minister but he never actually says the words I apologize Prime Minister Trudeau or even that he is sorry except for the fact that it made him look like the unprofessional buffoon that he is. Mostly he just talks about his mission to do a hatchet job on Canada in order to set the tone for Trump's meeting with North Korea. What a pathetic joke for a diplomat.

For those of us who like to grow flowers, are there any colors you prefer not to grow?
Surfpirate comments on Nov 13, 2018:
My wife hates red roses because her ex would always give them to her after he had cheated on her, I found this out the hard way when we first started dating and I bought her what I thought was a nice, romantic bouquet of roses.
