@Torrenziality Old Toronto family roots going back to when it was York and the bloody Yanks came and burned the governor's residence that set off the War of 1812, this lead to the British aka Canadians as we were British subjects, going down to Washington DC and giving the White House its name. Prior to the sacking of Washington and the torching of the White House it was called the US Presidential Palace but the Yanks had to whitewash the scorch marks over and it became the White House.

Agnostic means Xstian Lite to most Christians.
Surfpirate replies on Jan 26, 2020:
@tymtravler When your reality is Xstian based then your outlook is inclusive of all things being ruled by your Xstian god, agnostic is just someone who is a bit confused in the minds of many Xstians. My mother doesn't like the word Atheist because in her mind they have gone over to the Devil and are unlikely to be redeemed by her Lord and Savior, so she thinks of me as an Agnostic aka someone who is just confused about god but will possibly be saved in the end. It's a Delusion but it is an all encompassing delusion that molds their world view. If you haven't heard the term Xstian Lite before well then - now you have. Use it whenever you like.

@Torrenziality Hogtown comes from the old stockyards and meat processing plants that used to be big business in Toronto in the early 1900's. 416 was the old area code for Toronto before they had to add 905 and a few others. T.O. was for Toronto, Ontario but nobody from Toronto proper ever called it that and as for T.Dot, well that's a new one on me. I left for more interesting place back in 1989 and never moved back but I still have friends and family that live in the city and wouldn't live anywhere else.

Oh geez. That's just weird.
Surfpirate replies on Dec 26, 2019:
Weird on so many levels; the fact that Cow Island isn't really an island, that they used a crop duster to spray holy piss on people whether or not they wanted it or not and whether or not the duster was thoroughly cleaned or just rinsed out a bit, that the holy man thought this was the largest amount of water he had ever converted into holy piss (I am curious if there is a limit to how much water can be transmuted with a few words of jibberish, probably a rule in some holy book laying out limits based on holy ranking, etc.). Yeah, I wouldn't be concerned if I saw a crop duster plane spray me down with who knows what, no worries at all.

@Allamanda What an interesting way of stating white privilege, just wait a century or two and we won't have to worry much about it, we will be Xstianed into a desert planet. My hope is that the Sub Saharan African peoples will be the few survivors of this climate catastrophe, can't do much worse but probably won't do much better.

It's all about DEATH, every one of the major religions are at their core - death cults.
genessa comments on Dec 22, 2019:
every one of the major religions? not true. that doesn't apply to judaism, which has no heaven or hell, no rapture, and DOES have a focus on the living and the here and now. whatever problems judaism may have, it most definitely is NOT all about death. g

Somebody needs to break the news to the Jews. They are not in the top ten, they are down there with Jainism, Bah'ai and Shintoism - they just make a lot of noise for their size. I tend to think of Judaism as a failed sect that was a springboard for Xstians so I will stick with my original statement. Also the Jewish people are waiting on the ir Messiah to deliver them as God's chosen ones so it is a variation on the theme. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_religious_populations

Snakes in your dreams?
Spinliesel comments on Dec 13, 2019:
Oh. thank goodness, I do not have to think about them too much. I'll just quote Carl Jung: “Snake-dreams usually occur, therefore, when the conscious mind is deviating from its instinctual basis.” I think they are about sex, with men, in some uncomfortable fashion.
Surfpirate replies on Dec 13, 2019:
I agree that there is phallic symbolism with snakes and they can definitely represent that in dreams. Often snakes in dreams are associated with danger or betrayal but it also depends upon the culture you are from as well. Native American culture tends to associate the snake with wisdom which is a stark contrast to the Abrahamic Religions association of the snake with Evil.

@DavidDuhon If they freeze then they are for the compost bin, they like a cool, dark place to slowly ripen in, some people wrap them in newspaper and put them in the cellar for a while but you have to constantly check on them or you open up the newspaper to rotting tomatoes.

Secular_Squirrel comments on Dec 7, 2019:
Factually incorrect though, the fictional character of Jesus did tell people to hate others!
Surfpirate replies on Dec 7, 2019:
Jesus is not teaching a new commandment of hating people. He is teaching about the cost of following Him. The clue is in Luke 14:33 when Jesus says: “In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.” It’s about what we must be prepared to do to follow Jesus. It’s about giving up everything, even our very lives for Him. He doesn’t say, “by doing this you will get into heaven”. Jesus clearly teaches that through faith in Him we have eternal life (John 3:16). Through His death on the cross, we have the forgiveness of sins (Romans 6:23). However, as His followers, are we willing to place Him in first position and place the most important people in our lives in second place? Let’s paint the scene. In Luke 14:25, large crowds were travelling with Jesus because they had seen him healing people, feeding people and teaching people at no cost. Why not follow Jesus? You can get something for nothing. However, in this passage we see Jesus turn around to them that following him is not without cost - you have to place him before other important people in your lives. You even have to place him before yourselves. To get his point across he uses very emotive and challenging language - you must hate everyone else. In so doing he is not saying that you do it literally but you must be prepared to put everything else second. So if your parent forbids you from following him then you must disobey them and so on. Thankfully many of us have never been put in a situation where we have had to choose between Christ and our loved ones. But imagine if you had been captured by religious terrorists and they demand that you deny Christ or watch one of your friends die what would you choose? Jesus is saying you must choose him. But it can be more subtle than this. In the stress of working and making ends meet we can be tempted to cut down of church activities, reading the bible or praying because we don’t have time. It may be the things you are working hard for are good things that will allow (say) your kids to have a better education. Jesus is saying don’t pursue these things at my expense - nothing, not even your wife and kids, is more important than following me and obeying me.

Surfpirate replies on Dec 2, 2019:
@Allamanda Well you have the most important part, extra ceiling height which will make it cooler. The insulation in some of the reefers can be contaminated so probably better you have the regular high cube. I had planned on using shipping containers on our house but the engineering required by the local building authority made it cheaper for me to use engineered trusses and conventional framing.

The interesting thing is that I am the executor of her estate but I do not have power of attorney, that defaults to the widow of my deceased brother, the very woman who signed his death warrant by not allowing him a blood transfusion.
