Scouts Canada has always had a requirement for a belief in god or at least a higher power. I was a scout leader for many years and people knew my views on the topic but they let me get away with the belief in a universal life force. Any Scout Leaders who are willing to volunteer their time and are not criminals or pedophiles are welcome as there is such a scarcity. In the end they took me down for being too successful, such is the small mindedness of the directors and I just had enough of them and their petty rules.

I am openly atheist and have never felt discriminated against in Canada, definitely not in a systematic manner. Bermuda was my home for many years and they have a strong Xstian bias but they are also homophobic even though I knew many that were on the down low as well as the standard joke that the most confusing day in Bermuda was Father's Day. We do love to bitch in Canada, I'll give you that.

Reminds me of a hotel project that I was helping the owner dig out of the hole full of red ink it was drowning in. I just about had us back to break even when he went off with the hotel manager to a trade show in Vegas and brought back an indoor rain machine that they just had to have for the spa. $450k. I could have choked the bastards because with the knock on effect costs it came out to closer to $700k. I finished the job but in the end the bank took it from the owner a couple of years down the road.
So how do you maintain a level of respect for those who believe in these fairytales?
Surfpirate comments on Mar 5, 2019:
I don't have to respect the beliefs of a crazy person to accept them as a human being and I try not to go around poking the weirdos with a stick. If they try to force their madness upon me then that is another story all together and I will resist with all my strength because those people can be very dangerous indeed, just look at their history.
A good reminder...

I have a question to members of this group.
Surfpirate comments on Mar 3, 2019:
I was building a mansion for a client back in the 90's for a client on Vancouver Island on a waterfront lot. We hit midden which is a bad sign and just before we completed the excavation for the foundation we pulled up a human skull in the bucket of the excavator, shut things down right away and called the Royal Archeological Society. The project was delayed by 6 months while the skeleton and 3 others were excavated with small trowels and paint brushes, several members of the local band got jobs paying top dollar to screen the surrounding midden and the remains were interred with full native ceremony by the local band. The chief made a terrible stink about rich white men digging up the bones of his ancestors and the whole bill went to my client. Twice the work that we could do away from the bones was stopped by the RCMP when neighbours who were going to lose their view when the house was completed, called in false complaints about my workers disturbing the burial site. The final verdict was that the 3 skeletons were the bodies of slaves that were unceremoniously dumped in the rubbish pit of the adjacent fishing camp by a band that had inhabited the area several hundred years before the current band conquered the area. All the fuss about white oppressors went suddenly quiet when it became clear that this was a native on native desecration of remains. My client was a Queen's Counsel Lawyer and successfully sued the Royal Archeological Society for costs and delays to his home being built. It was a complete farce.
I have a question to members of this group.
Surfpirate comments on Mar 3, 2019:
I believe the skeletons of caucasian human oddities like say, the elephant man were returned and interred a long time ago but for some reason there is resistance about doing the same when the bones belong to native peoples. Why is that?

Well that scrub brush would definitely scour out anything left behind after a bout of explosive diarrhea. Reminds me of a time in Peru when my Spanish languages skills were much more limited than they are now and I had a bad case of Montezuma's Revenge. I am trying to come up with a word for my condition and it is not coming to me but other things are building up pressure so I am under a bit of duress to figure out the proper word in Spanish for diarrhea. Suddenly the pharmacist gets it and yells out 'AH, DIARRHEA! CLARO!' and then repeats it a few more times to make sure I got it, I definitely got it and everyone else in the farmacia got the info about my condition too.

The week before this last lunar eclipse, I had two flying dreams, one lucid, one half lucid.
Surfpirate comments on Feb 25, 2019:
Awesome dream and I'm so happy for you to overcome that damping field when you were flying, sweet. I have a lot of deja vu feelings in my dream where I know where everything is because either I have dreamed it before or because I just know although I have never been there IRL. I'm guessing you're a sparky in real life since you recognized it as a Square D box. :) I have to wonder who or what the walrus was up to though. If you want to try something different the next time you are flying in your dream, try focusing on a distant part of the landscape and think yourself there without having to use up all the time flying. It's a bit like going to warp speed, one minute you are hear and the next you are way over there, still flying of course. It's a handy trick to know and may help get over some of those altitude restrictions you have on your flying atm.

I don't see how assisted suicide can work fairly without universal health care. Health care has to be equally accessible to all before death with dignity can be equally accessible to all. Medically assisted death with dignity has always been available to the wealthy and the powerful, it's the poor that have had to deal with this problem on their own and with all the pitfalls that come with that.

Snake Oil Cannabis? The Scientific Evidence for Medical Marijuana & CBD — Information is Beautiful
Surfpirate comments on Feb 22, 2019:
A friend of mine has suffered several minor strokes over the past few years and recently had a fainting spell that left him with lacerations to his face and two broken ribs. He has two vials of medical marijuana that would help him rest and recover but he doesn't know how they might react with all the medications he is taking already. My friend asked his doctor on how he should proceed and the doctor said he had no idea, so my friend continues to sufffer and his healing is delayed. Cannabis still carries a huge stigma due to the propaganda about it over the past 80 years.

I also recall thinking to myself how lucky I was not to be born as part of that conformist group of Boomer assholes.
