This is what happens when you let government legislate anything and everything. :)
SkotlandSkye comments on Apr 10, 2019:
The sad thing is that a LOT of breeders have this mentality. What the government SHOULD regulate is who is allowed to breed more humans. That should require education, psych evaluations, stable careers and homes....and a licensing process/lottery for those who do qualify.
Surfpirate replies on Apr 10, 2019:
That's a great idea and later we could round up the nonbreeders and keep them in forced labour camps, awesome idea. :D

The post doesn't even specify the the US/Mexico border as this is an issue in many countries in the West that have large Xstian populations and have moved to the right politically over the migration issue. Brexit is largely about controlling immigration from non-Xstian countries and the rise of the Xstian right in other European countries is also tied to this issue.

I am well aware that the US is a republic and how the levels of government are supposed to work as a system of checks and balances but I am not blind and can see quite clearly that the reality has become far removed from the intention. Your government is broken and the system has been gamed, it needs to be fixed before the US slips into a totalitarian state. Feelings are not divorced from reason, they spring from it.
Is there any hope of unity in a Multi-cultural society?
Surfpirate comments on Mar 31, 2019:
When you consider that a majority of Canadians came from the British Isles initially and that small land mass was comprised of 4 groups - English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh - the 4 of which still can't get along, so the best we can hope for is unity in diversity.
Surfpirate replies on Apr 2, 2019:
@LB67 I suppose the difference between the US and Canada is that the US has always prided itself on being a melting pot whereas Canada prided itself on being a salad bowl. With the rise of the fascist right in the USA there has been signs of similar rhetoric in Canada and I find that disturbing, especially as I am a 9th generation Canadian with roots going back to 1753. I Am Canadian to the bone, I trace no roots back to the old country because this is my family's old country but at the same time I celebrate newer Canadians and the cultural diversity that they bring with them when they choose to make Canada their new home. This talk of us and them has always existed in Canada but it is trying to legitimize itself and I have no time for that. If you want to be intolerant of your fellow countrymen and point out the differences instead of celebrating them then there is a country for you and it waits below the 44th parallel.

@Electro68 I think of it as sliding or blinking, with sliding you sort of bend space and time, like you are fast forwarding a movie at maximum speed so that you leave one part of the dream and fast forward through it. With blinking it seems more like teleporting from one place to another, the time remains the same, usually. I really like dimensional travel in my dreams where there isn't much of a connection with earth bound reality, kind of scary at first but very interesting, I haven't done much of it lately. :(

@SukiSue Well the PC's are basically GOP lite, they think they are in power even when they aren't and have a strong Xstian underpinning - probably why the candidate in the dream showed up early, gave a statement and left because they don't debate, they just dictate, also a good reason to have police protection. lol The Liberals are the center party in Canada so they often govern but they are head in the clouds much of the time, imagine if Hillary and Bernie had a child and it became the leader of your country and you get the idea. Liberals are also elitists so it explains why the candidate didn't even bother to show but instead had his press secretary just read out a prepared statement. The NDP is the labour party of Canada, strong union backing so these guys know about reality but they never get to actually govern as big money keeps them out of the winner's circle, therefore they just run interference on the big parties and try to keep them from doing anything too stupid. The Independents like me don't really get to speak because they aren't considered to be newsworthy so no voice. Meanwhile the consumer society in Canada is in debt and trying to sell off the crap in their garages, stuff they didn't need and bought with money they didn't have in the first place. @azzow2 I suppose it is the flip side of the coin when it comes to national philosophies between Canada and the US. We both started out with the same British roots but we took to very different paths, you had your revolution and we just froze the bastards out until they gave up and went home. :) Canadians have fewer people so we have to protect our labour pool and keep it healthy, American companies seem to feel that their workers are more disposable. Canada therefore has a more inclusive social safety net and the US tends to kick people to the curb and just get a replacement worker. I pay slightly higher taxes than I would in the US but I don't have to spend money on a lot of other factors which are knock on effects from the policies in the US - higher policing costs and security expenses, the possibility of going bankrupt over health care costs and the ever present threat of civil war between the normals and the crazies that polarize Amerika. Ultimately, the Canadian system is cheaper and more effective than the US system for 99% of the population but the 1% owns and operates the US system so you are not going to see this without a domestic war.

Have you ever sought medical treatment in a country that has universal health care? I've lived in more than a dozen countries and I have seen the difference between those with universal healthcare and those without it. The countries that have universal health care are not only healthier but their level of care is better on average. I am fortunate to be rich by most standards but I still don't want to live in a society where I could go bankrupt to pay for my cancer treatment or have someone who needs cancer treatment rob me in order to pay for their treatment. Surfpirate replies on Mar 14, 2019:
@ToolGuy I believe I addressed it adequately, a democracy is only as good as its electorate. People often vote as a knee jerk reaction to some silly current event and therefore it is quite easy to game the system, especially for wealthy elites that have a shared common interest in promoting their interests at the expense of the majority. This is why I do not consider myself an Ayn Rand sort if libertarian, I find it to be petty and selfish to the point of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. The social contract is broken and it needs to be mended, otherwise we will slip into totalitarianism as we have throughout history whenever the vast majority of the wealth and power has become concentrated into the hands of the very few. So in response to your suggestion that I am bicognitive, I can assure you that I am not the bull's cock and I do not go wherever I am shoved, that would be foolish.

@ToolGuy I'm a lefty libertarian politically and I feel that they are the best choice. The whole point of a representative democracy is that we vote for the party/individual who best represents our ideals, this I feel is a much better approach than strategic voting or media manipulation of the voters. Therefore, I think that the Greens deserve to win, even though I know that they won't. The push by corporate powers is for a Conservative majority in the next election, a minority at worst and if somehow the NDP gets in with a majority then I would expect that there will be drastic measures taken in our corporatocracy.
