3 years is a long standing issue, it doesn't sound like it is going to get resolved at the teacher level, take it to the principal and the school counselor as there seems to be a personality conflict between the teacher and the student that cannot be resolved. If the teacher was a misogynist pig who was being unfairly critical of a female student then this wouldn't be tolerated so I see no difference.

Another favourite response to my telling people that I am retired is their disbelief, that since I retired at the young age of 48 that I must somehow be lying to them. 'You're too young to retire' is a comment I used to get a lot of, less so now but people either felt that I was lying to them to hide the fact that I was unemployed (isn't that what voluntary unemployment is, retirement?) or I was too lazy to work (I'm a recovering workaholic) or that I was just on some sort of weird sabbatical. Many people were envious or even resentful that I should have the selfish notion that I didn't need to keep contributing to the economy as if it would somehow stop spinning without everybody's nose to the grindstone, I paid plenty of taxes and still do. My wife and I traveled for the first 5 years and we often just told people we were on an extended vacation because it was just easier than trying to explain that our priorities were different.
So today is my last day with current employer, essentially it was resign or misery.
Surfpirate comments on Sep 7, 2018:
I also early retired and it will be a bit of a shock if you are like most people, those first few months can be busy with adapting to changes and getting caught up on all those little chores that you never had time to do before but it will pass. Think of it as still working but only on things that you want to do and when you want to do them, I call it freedom.

Surfpirate comments on Sep 6, 2018:
My wife's family has a connection with a large funeral home in Montreal so they get a discount rate on their funerals if they hold them at that one funeral home. I've noticed that the eulogy always has a lead up that mentions the name of the funeral home several times and gives a soft pedal sales pitch to future clients, fair enough, they are giving a discount and the plug is tasteful enough. What the preacher did was unacceptable, I would have been tempted to throw a couple of ones at his feet and tell thanks for the great service.

My wife and I lived in Bermuda for 7 years until 2010 and because it is such an isolated spot the shipping costs to move all of our stuff back to Canada was ridiculously expensive. We had decided to go traveling for a few years at that point so we sold everything that wouldn't fit into a suit case and a day pack each, mailed a few personal items like certificates and photos to family in Canada, then we hopped a plane for Rio de Janiero. Best Move Ever! We are now minimalists.

Surfpirate comments on Sep 6, 2018:
A bit of a strange one last night, I was an Ant. A white dreamscape but like ribbons of paper and I was a Blue Ant walking up one of the wide ribbons of white and everything was fine, sort of a communal group think thing going on but also my individual consciousness as well. As we are climbing, we come across a long column of green ants, like a lime green and I know right away that these are forage ants, not very bright compared to the blues but they are hard workers and they harvest food. My group the Blue Ants communicate with the Green Ants and ask them not to harvest so much because they are over harvesting and this is making a gooey mess everywhere they go on the white ribbons but the Greens won't listen and tell us Blues to buzz off and mind our own business. So we blues push in on the greens because we need to stop them before they do more damage and while we are individually bigger and faster and smarter there are a lot more Greens than Blues and they swarm over us. At this point I decide to hell with being an ant and getting ripped apart by other ants so I turn back into a human but the green ants now start swarming up my legs which is uncomfortable as they are trying to bite me. So after a bit of trying to swat them off of my legs I have had enough so I pop into flying mode but without a corporeal body, more like a see through body that isn't effected by physical assaults, I use this form to fly up and down the ribbons to assess the damage caused by the Green Ants. There is goo everywhere and the clear goo is growing mold spores that is eating away at the structural integrity of the ribbons, this has to be stopped. I spot a large group of Blues ants so I fly over to them and I can communicate with the leader of the group but I am also communicating with all of the Blues collectively as they have some sort of weird hive mind like when I was feeling in the form of a Blue Ant before I morphed out of that shape. The Blues are supposed to keep order but the Greens just won't listen, they are too stupid and single minded, something I had noticed when I had tried to communicate with part of the column of Greens I had flown over during my assessment flight, they just reared up and tried to grab at me but they couldn't touch me in non-corporeal form. The Blues tell me that there are just too many of the stupid Greens and they have already lost too many Blues in the original encounter when I was an ant, they don't know what to do because they will be overwhelmed by the Greens. At this point a large column of Orange Ants show up, these guys are military ants, really big and heavily armoured, they are all gung ho to go smash the Greens. The Blues and I try to calm down the Oranges but they are almost as dumb as the Greens and with a sharp...

I survived free range parenting, this is my little brother and I goofing around in our backyard, there was a tire swing on a heavy chain with a bit of tape wrapped around the chain so it didn't pinch your fingers and an old ladder suspended 8' in the air and a rope you could swing down from. In the background is a fort that we built with old shipping pallets and some salvaged nails, covered with leaves to keep out most of the rain. Most of the time we were away all day, climbing the bluffs at the end of the street, or playing Robin Hood in the swamp by the railroad tracks with our homemade bows and arrows.

My dream was in a white room, there were a few other people there and we were explaining our philosophies and competing with each other in some kind of competition that wasn't so much about winning or losing but just completing, there seemed to be an audience but I couldn't see them. The host offered each of us a choice of different bullets and the first person took a pellet from a pellet gun, the next person took the .22 cal bullet, the next a .38 shell and when he came to me he offered me the 44 magnum bullet but I held out a large musket ball instead, the kind they fired out of swivel deckguns in pirate days. I have one I recovered off of a wreck, along with a few cannonballs from the 1600's. The host of the competition didn't know what to do, he said the largest caliber they could fire was a .61 and he sent some people to go find the big gun but I said I didn't think that would be big enough. Then I woke up before they could sort things out, I suspect it may have something to do with the election I am running in with 3 other candidates who have no new ideas.

One says something about you and the other says something about them. Either way you have an opportunity to learn something, either about yourself or about them. What you decide to do after that depends on which it is and what you want to do about it.

Surfpirate comments on Sep 4, 2018:
I can imagine that many people find it weird when they first come to this group and instead of getting the usual barrage of denials, confrontations and finger pointing when they mention their belief or lack of belief they tend to get a much more understanding feedback. Many of the agnostic and atheists in this group have been through similar trials and tribulations so we know where you are coming from, some of us were lucky enough to be born into families that were already atheistic or agnostic. If you still believe in an angry old man in the sky then people will generally be understanding but if you try and preach it to people then you will probably meet with some resistance because a lot of us had to fight our way free of that dogma. Welcome to the group, lots to see and learn, plenty of interesting people to make friends with and possibly more.

Being from a Bi-lingual country it always gives me a chuckle when I hear American expats complaining about people in non-English speaking countries not speaking any god damn English. :D These people don't even speak proper English most of the time, some sort of Americanese I would think but not proper English. ;) I've had to wade in several times in the middle of an ugly American meltdown in Latin America, to defuse the situation and keep Anglo-Expats welcome in Ecuador, Nicaragua and Mexico. Please take the time to learn the local language if you are considering moving to a country that does not have English as one of the official languages. Don't be like the woman I helped out in a restaurant in Cuenca, EC and then offered her the contact info for a Spanish Language School I was attending there. This woman who had just been on the verge of a breakdown minutes earlier because she couldn't convey a simple lunch order, looked at me and said 'Why would I want to learn the language of my gardener back home.' I wondered why she had moved to Ecuador in the first place.

September 4: Dream Diary
Surfpirate comments on Sep 4, 2018:
Last night was a dream about a great wind storm that was causing damage to houses and it was evaporating the water off of the rivers into a mist. I was flying above the river with my younger brother and there was a voice over explaining the impact of the winds on the river and the damage they could do to property. At one point as we flew downstream we encountered heavy turbulence and had to increase power to rise above the wind gusts, this was accompanied by the sound that a twin otter bush plane makes when you throttle up the power and we lifted high above the river. From this increased height it was clear that the water table was very low and we decided to descend and see just how low the water in the river was. At this point the engine sound stopped and we returned to normal dream flight, basically propelled levitation and as we came in for a landing my brother started telling me that because people were over taxing the Saugenay River watershed by taking water the river was never able to achieve more than 25% of its historical volumes. As we came in for touch down my brother just floated above the water but for some reason I decided to change my feet into small pontoon floats so I could float standing up on the water. The aluminum pontoons quickly proved a problem when they caught on the rocks because the water level was so low and everything was covered with a green/black algae because of the low water, no life was in the river and that again was because of the low water and the dumping of sewage into the river that used up all the oxygen and coated everything with slime. I turned my feet back to normal and we hovered further down the river, floating in an upright position and surveying the lifeless river. We realized that if the water levels weren't increased then the problem would spread to other river systems as well.

I installed a similar dip in the private lane that runs beside my house, the lane is in an illegal position that is outside of the legal right of way but the people who use it are too cheap to change it 20 feet to the west so that it is no longer on my private property. These people have basically been stealing a 20' x 100' strip off my property for years because the property was undeveloped, now that I have built a house on the land they are upset with me, so when the culvert that directs the water harmlessly around my driveway got plugged and washed out my driveway they refused to fix it. These people said it was my problem to maintain their illegal road so instead of paying to have their culvert flushed out I dug a trench across the road to let the water flow in it's old channel and not wash out my driveway, now they have to slow down to 10 km/hr or they ground out. After two years they are finally talking to me about moving the road into the proper spot. ;)

I've been up since 5 am after a rather mundane dream. I dreamed that I was taking a retraining course at one of the local colleges, bullshit government program that makes work for the college but doesn't do much else, all middle aged people in the course like myself. I start driving home but I am in a beat up old car and I have to get from one side of the city to the other, I'm in my home city of Toronto so I no the way around even though I haven't lived in Toronto for 30 years. One thing leads to another and before long I am driving in the dark, in the rain and there is heavy construction so I park the rolling wreck I have been driving and start walking, pretty soon I am right down town and I see a British girl I seem to know but I can't place her and she doesn't seem to notice me. The British girl goes into the subway station downtown and I follow her but now it is the railway station inside and the Brit girl is talking with another woman and I don't want to interrupt their conversation so I sit down in the waiting area and plan out the train I will have to take to get to my mother's house that is north of Toronto and then I realize that this is going to be expensive and I will have to get my younger brother to drive me back to where I left my car before morning or I will get a parking ticket which will make it even more expensive, especially if I get towed and have to pay to get the car out of impound, suddenly I am thinking I will just abandon the car because it is a piece of junk anyway and my younger brother is so unreliable that I can't count on him to give me a lift. I wake up and it is pitch black in the house and I am thinking how depressing is this?

As a Progressive have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk into a Trump Rally? On the last Friday of every month on the island there is a TGIF sundowner party in the little park and everyone is invited and since I am running for election I decided I should break down and go to it for the first time. I haven't heard much about it that is positive in the past but I thought what the heck, nothing ventured nothing gained so I went there this evening with my wife and a couple of friends and walked right into a get together of the old guard and their candidates. This is a group of old, nasty people that absolutely hate any changes to the island in anyway, so basically they hate my whole platform and by extension, they hate me. The woman running the whole thing is the same nasty, born again xstian woman who tried to steal my driveway in a land dispute last year and has called the police, the fire dept. and the building inspector on me for multiple complaints over the past 2 years. So I put on a big smile and walked right into the middle of the group and then chatted with the other candidates who had to put on fake smiles and make polite small talk. My wife handled the xstian old battle axe who tried to have a staring match with her, I could have told them it would be a waste of time but the old nasty tried and lost both times. We hung around in the middle of the group for the better part of an hour and the whole party got dispersed into little groups because nobody dared to talk to us for fear of retribution from the old guard nasties but since we were right in the middle of the get together there was no place left to go. I did pick up a bit of info and the gauntlet is now definitely thrown down. These people are really mean spirited but at least they will get a run for their money this time and hopefully lose their stranglehold on local politics.
All of the above.

Hopefully they changed the codes on the nuclear football - just in case.

We lived there when Correa was in power and it was good but with the regime change it seems to be swinging back to the bad old days. We spent some time in Cali, Colombia and Cartegna and I wouldn't live there permanently, not as nice as Ecuador by comparison, although if you are rich you might like the shopping.
Today I got off work early.

I live on an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River on the border between the US and Canada, this is my 4th island and I can tell you that islanders love to know your business, they have no problem peppering you with questions about you and your past. My wife finds this terribly rude and intrusive but I find it fun, I am happy to answer their questions to a point and then after that if I feel they are getting too nosy then I just make shit up. I figure why not, mess with them since they are messing with me by prying too much. Usually the truth is sufficient to throw them for a loop but you should feel free to let loose with some really strange shit if you think your neighbours are too intrusive.
A fair summary? :)

My experience as a Gen-Exer may be a little different than most because I am from the first year of the change from Boomer to Gen-X, in fact I recall being considered part of the Boomers for many years but then getting reclassified as an Xer. Most of my friends have always been older than I am, typically 10 years older and I find those Boomers to be interesting but much more conformist than I have ever been as an Xer, so while I often found the Boomers annoying with their complacent and conformist attitudes I didn't whine about it so much as exploit their weakness, turn around is fair play. Just recently a woman I had just met at a social function asked me my age (57) and she immediately said 'Oh, you're just a Baby then' - so I asked her how old she was (guessing mid to late 60's) and she proudly told me 61! Four years difference, less than 10% of total years lived and she thinks I'm a baby?? That's Boomers for you, they are stuck in high school for the most part. :D She worked as an executive secretary and never traveled further than Cancun, I've lived in 6 countries and owned 3 companies and retired at 48 but in her mind I'm the baby, love those Boomers, like shooting fish in a barrel. As for the Millennials, I found their strange work ethic to be problematic for Boomer consume everything and screw the next generation mentality. As for plaid, I've never worn it. ;)
Lol ?

People do weird things and I think a lot of it is tied to mental illness. My Ex tried to destroy me in every way possible, financially, emotionally and even physically but she still called me up to ask my opinion about the guy who had just proposed to her and she ultimately married because . . . . I was the only person in the world that she really trusted. Logic escapes some people, their emotions rule them for good or bad and there is often nothing you can do about it except encourage them to get professional help. The last words I heard from my Ex were about 20 years ago in a crowded courtroom, she turned to me and fixed me with a hate filled stare and then said 'Why did you have to fuck me like a whore'. I was so surprised by her statement that I was speechless, I always thought that I had fucked her just the way she liked it at least based upon her physical and emotional response. My current wife responded on my behalf and told her that she really needed to seek professional help. The hard part is to not blame yourself for any more than you yourself are responsible for, just deal with that part and leave their part in it for them to clean up themselves.

Ken, Baby! Forget about it! I follow this group more closely than any other and I don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. Relax, have a nice cold beer and remember that in life we should never sweat the small stuff and at the end of the day, it's all small stuff. Now later I'll round up a couple of baseball bats and a blowtorch, we'll track this fucker down and get medieval on his ass. That'll cheer you up, Eh Mate?
An interesting new way to look at the non-religious and the religious. Where do you fit in?
Surfpirate comments on Aug 29, 2018:
I came in as a religious resister, probably because I leave the door for the unknown open a crack no matter what.
We have the same right to offend as they to us!

But you still can't shoot them, there are some rules of engagement and that one is Numero Uno. Returning fire however in a life threatening situation is certainly quite acceptable and has been consistently upheld in the courts.

Surfpirate comments on Aug 29, 2018:
Buy the bigger dogs, they are made with (mostly) real meat and they actually taste like meat. Hebrew National makes a decent kosher beef hot dog and there are a few other Ball Park Franks that are decent too. Ditch that Nathan's processed tube of unmentionable meat byproducts.
What is your Idea about the "SUPREME BEING"?
Surfpirate comments on Aug 29, 2018:
All living things are part of what might be described as the supreme being because life is what separates the animate from the inanimate. Being animated beings we can interact with the world around us and doing so is an end in itself. As for the Holy Moly, Bearded Old Bastard in the Sky concept of a supreme being, well that's just a bit silly wouldn't you say? What sort of being could be defined as supreme if it spent all it's time making flawed creations, blaming the creations for being fucked up, hovering about hoping to catch some of these creations jerking off or eating shrimp and then burning them all in hell for eternity, because, well - SHRIMP! Everybody loves shrimp, completely wrong to make such a delicious critter and then tell everyone 'You Can't Have Any'. So get out there and interact with your environment, fornicate, have fun and most importantly - Remember to Eat the Shrimp.
I am canning tomatoes, well tomosauce, salsa and Pizza sauce.
Surfpirate comments on Aug 29, 2018:
Remember to add some lemon juice or vinegar to the batch if they are low acid tomatoes, I usually add it to any no Roma tomatoes just to be on the safe side and avoid the risk of getting food poisoning later.

A weird one last night, riding on a chicken bus (old school buses used as informal bus lines) with my wife in Mexico. Everybody is carrying something from the market or to the market and my wife has a wooden basket like you would get apples in and it is full of the garlic I grew this year. My wife decides to sell the garlic to some of the other passengers and one woman buys most of it but another wants to haggle about the price, eventually my wife lets her have the rest for a little less because she wants to get off the bus after a young Mexican guy tells her that someone has taken a crap through a hole in the floor of the bus and the shit is sitting on the axle under our feet. We get up and leave as we are pulling into the next stop.

Surfpirate comments on Aug 29, 2018:
You can't build something good on a rotten foundation, a lifetime of building has taught me that. One area where people want to skimp when building for the first time is on the foundation because it winds up buried under the rest of the house, you never see it and you just take it for granted - until it starts to rot away and then the whole house has to be replaced or expensive repairs to the foundation have to be made if the rot hasn't gone too deep. Sometimes you have to tear out that rot before you can build anything good that will last.
Sincerely Everyone

Surfpirate comments on Aug 28, 2018:
These would be The Mound Builders, they were wiped out by the diseases that spread ahead of the White Invasion of North America. I've read accounts where early explorers entered great cities that were empty of all life, this was before the colonizers/invaders moved west and plowed those mounds under after raiding them for the indian bones to be turned into health tonics.
Warrior nation mentality. Anyone else concerned by the jingoism often displayed in this country?
Surfpirate comments on Aug 28, 2018:
The US Economy is propped up by the sale of military hardware and wars for profit and sovereignty over other nations, eventually this system will collapse just like every other empire that has been based upon military occupation. In order to make this system work the American public had to be brainwashed into go along with this as a patriotic issue, a manhood issue and a moral high ground issue, nobody would have sent their kids to be cannon fodder overseas if the wars were known for what they are, profit centers. The US Greenback is the world's reserve currency not because of the strength of the US economy but because if it is not accepted as the reserve currency by any country then it will soon be time for a regime change and if necessary, boots on the ground.
I do healthcare research.

What significant changes have occurred in your life, his life and your shared life in the past few months? This could give you a clue as to what has happened that has caused this change in your relationship, rarely does change occur in a vacuum so look at yourself as well as him, then maybe you can sort things out with him. It sounds like it needs to be addressed and the sooner the better.

Let's not forget that a large segment of American citizens voted for this guy, with all the evidence before them of what a deceitful, corrupt, womanizing, sexual predator that he is and still they voted for him. A country that does this is a country that is fundamentally broken and needs to be repaired, Trump isn't the cause, he's the symptom.

I would say that most Canadians are trying to be understanding about this orange buffoon in the white house but frankly we are still scratching our heads about how Americans elected him in the first place. Please clean up this pile of dog shit on the rug, it's nasty and it smells.
