I was once asked by a pompous prick of a hotel manager to join the Inner Circle at a special board meeting I was attending when I should have been salvaging the train wreck of a hotel construction project I had just taken over and was struggling to fix. He was somewhat taken aback that I didn't leap at the opportunity to become part of the Inner Circle but he was curious as to my question so he told me to proceed. I wasn't aware that adultery could still be cited as grounds for divorce anymore, it certainly isn't in Canada and hasn't been for decades. People wind up doing shitty things in a divorce, they act out of anger and pain and regret, try to understand that but also hold your ground because you have the good of the children at stake. My wife hooked up with a US military officer and took my kids out of the country, changed their names and refused access in spite of a court order to the contrary and the ones that were hurt the most were the kids. I still send out a check every month even though my kids have long since graduated from university because it is cheaper than going back to family court to get this stopped. Something I dread the thought of dredging up again but still it has to be done now that the kids are all in their 30's.

Just a pet peeve of mine, given all the news reports today and from the past couple of days.

My wedding band is white gold in the shape of a Turks Head Knot because it has no beginning or end to it but she meant my other ring which I wear on the little finger of my right hand so I was explaining to her that it is a Master Builder's ring and what that meant when I woke up. I was in Texas last night, walking around in search of my grown children, I am walking through endless streets until I come to a slightly seedy part of town. There is a teenage boy out in front of a brick bungalow on a busy and dusty street, he is dressed in military fatigues with an orange safety vest on top, he salutes a couple of Marine recruits who are jogging past him in the same attire, I realize that the teenager is the stepson of my children from my Ex's 2nd marriage to a US Marine officer. I introduce myself and the young man tells me I better follow him and he goes into the brick bungalow, inside is a very simply furnished house, very 70's furniture and the stepson tells me there is a message on the answering machine for me that I should hear. The message plays back and it is my 3 adult children who have left a message for their mother on the previous New Years, my 3 kids have all been drinking but along with the wishing in of the New Year they plead with their mother to be able to see their real father again because 'they are old enough now and it's not illegal or anything' - the message ends with a beep. The stepson tells me that my kids don't live there anymore and so I leave the house and start walking back to where I left my car in a parking lot downtown. I take a slightly different route back to the car and it takes me through an even seedier part of town where another teenage boy comes up to me and tries to shake me down for money so I can walk down 'his street' because he lives there and I don't - I tell him to get lost but he tags along with me until I get to the corner of 'his street'. Next I wind up in an even worse section of town and there are a bunch of guys in their 20's just hanging out under a bridge, waiting for extra roles in Hollywood movies, there's a producer guy there picking who to hire and a gypsy cab whose driver offers to give me a lift but I turn it down because I just know that I won't have a wallet at the end of that ride. I keep walking and finally start to recognize some of the places I passed on my way to my Ex's house, the brick bungalow. I'm relieved to have found my way back to the right route and I am walking alongside a busy expressway in the middle of town when I wake up.

Yes, Math is going through the same troubles under the new Discovery Math program as English did under Hooked On Phonics many years ago. You can't just add it up the way you feel it should be added anymore than you can keep encouraging kids to spell it how you think it should be spelled. Math and English are both languages and therefore adhere to certain rules which must be followed if you are going to be able to communicate in these formats. However, I don't think that the teachers are as obsessed with Sex Education as much as the New Right in Ontario is, Ford is going to try and make points for himself regardless of what is best for the students and he will play to his Xstian base to do it. Let's not get into the false dichotomies that are so popular these days, one issue is not necessarily tied to the other.

I had 300 flyers printed on 80lb glossy photostock and my wife and I hand delivered them to every house on the island last night as soon as we got them from the printer. 2 hours of driving around the island doing the delivery but at least the ball is now rolling. I was at a friends house in Michigan and I was testing his security system which he insisted was foolproof, so I decided to see how secure it was. I was working with another guy to override the system, I was in Dave;s house physically and my assistant was handling the computer hack remotely. Dave came home and we suddenly realized that my assistant wasn't just testing the system he was breaking into the system to try and rob Dave. So now Dave and I are running around like crazy trying to disconnect the physical link to the hacker before he steals Dave's money, basically a white box with wires running to it that gives the hacker remote access. We seem to get that done but Dave is pissed even though it was his idea in the first place. I go outside and this may be a second dream because the scenery has changed and it is a hybrid of where I live and where Dave lives. There is a country road and there has been heavy rain and some flooding, the road is full of mud and hard for vehicles to get through. Suddenly a pole mounted transformer blows and I think this may have something to do with the hacker and cutting off his access to Dave's security system so that's why I'm not sure if it is the same dream or a second dream with just the connection. The power grid is knocked down and people living down the road are forced to park in the field beside Dave's house and walk in to their houses down the road. A large woman in a red Maserati comes flying down the road, mud splashing everywhere but not getting on the car. The woman is heavy set and big, maybe 6'6" tall and 350 lbs., she barely fits in the Maserati and has to sit high up in the drivers seat just to squeeze in, like she is riding on top of the car instead of in it but she can really drive. She slides through the mud, gunning the engine and executing controlled slides before coming to a stop and asking me if it is alright for her to park there and tell that's fine. Dave comes outside again because of all the commotion and wants to know what's going on with all the people parking on his property and the power outage and the flooding. I'm explaining it all to him when I wake up.

My father had a tattoo on each forearm, one of a highland dancer and one of Scottish piper from when he was in a Scottish pipe band. There was a banner concealing the dancer but just and it had been filled in because it had the name of the woman he planned to marry until she jilted him and he went on to meet my mother. My father hated those tattoos and would tell me to never be so stupid as to do that to my skin and even though I didn't heed much of his advice I did listen to him on that score.

While I do like the idea of a different expression from dreamed occurrences in real life and I do speak some French I thought it best to confirm this with my wife who is a native Montrealer from French Canada. Deja Vu translates directly as 'already seen' and Deja Reve translates directly as 'already dreamed', however my wife gave me that look she gives me when my 'high school French is showing'. She has never heard of such an expression in French as Deja Reve. Deja vu is common parlance but never deja reve. Doesn't mean we can't use it as a bunch of Anglos but if you say it around a Francophone they are going to look at you rather strangely.
